Whilst on the subject of TDM, is there any chance that either pov or chase demos of the GUNK vs Northstars matchups might be posted?

I think I have the chase demos, but I'm not sure they're particularly watchable - recorded with fullscreen 0 and I kept alt-tabing and pov's are changed pretty randomly as well. I can check them if I get home tonight though.

Do you think it is possible to remove the mg entirely and start with gauntlet? Add a dropweapon so teammates can supply you and change the weapon respawn times. Maybe it will promote a bit more teamwork and a bit less spam.

If these suggestions sound ridiculous, it is because i dont play TDM. The mg sound does get tiring though.

To remove the MG cess you would need a whole rebalancing of the game.

that's the most awesome idea ever. I don't know why no one is open to it, considering this isn't Quake 3. It's a whole new game, and they've already changed quad drop back in. So I don't really see why not. It's just another difference. The least that could be done is someone test it, or have an option for that.

Using blaster as the starting weapon is another idea, but that would mean changing all the maps as the MG has to stay as it's the only viable weapon after RG for long range. A lot of changing, not sure it's worth it.

I really agree with Daryl, this is meant to be a brand new game but everybody knows it more looks like a big texture patch for q3.

Trying the drop weapon thing, which was proposed for q3tdm but was too late to change the habits, would really propose a new way of playing tdm.

I always loved droping weapons in Q2. It enchances the TEAM part of TDM.

But it removes the strategic element of weapon saving.

Just nerf the damn MG. 3-4 dmg + 50 ammo on spawn.

Now, the whole modern war thing is cool and all, but the martial arts thing is better for entertainment. Just look at the movie industry. One martial arts movie after another. If you could reproduce that kind of action in a video game, you would have a bad-ass spectator sport. Especially since, in video games, no one actually gets hurt (aside from maybe a bruised ego). And you could add whatever special effects you could possibly ask for.

Again, I stress... in martial arts, you can block as well as attack. Part of the beauty is in the blend of blocking and attacking. Even if you don't have a shield, you can block with your sword... or your fists and legs and stuff. Draw inspiration from movies... look at modern war movies, and look at martial arts movies.

I'm telling you... this martial arts thing is better for e-sports than the modern war thing. It will even say 'sports' in the description of a martial arts movie (alongside action, martial arts, adventure, etc.). If someone could do it right, it could be perfect for pro-gaming.

Martial arts means (mostly) hand-to-hand combat. Whilst I'm also drawn to it, how do you suggest a proper TDM game should look like? Imagine q4dm7 for example, it will look like a pummel fest with 8 players all punching and kicking randomly in the center arena, not quite spectacular so to speak. On the other hand, it would eliminate all current issues regarding unplayable maps as the perfect map would be a cube with two randomly placed crates.

It's an interesting topic, though. Wasn't Matrix Online supposed to be something like that?

Typically, in martial arts, short, quick attacks do smaller amounts of damage, while long, slow attacks do higher amounts (just like in street fighter). This kind of system could work very well in an fps. Especially in conjunction with a blocking system. That way, the slower attacks are easier to block, so it's a fair exchange since they do more damage. Likewise for fast attacks (hard to block, low damage) and medium speed attacks (medium to block, medium damage).
