d|s played this map pretty effectively vs cK, wasn't all that random cessy at all. maybe it's just the way euros have to play against eachother ;\

I would think that the Euro teams are just slightly better and sort of _have_ to cess. Then again maybe that is just because USA teams don't like to cess so much (It was that way in Q3 too wasn't it?)

at first I was thinking that too, like maybe it looks like cess but there's some method to it. but after like 10 mins in I figured it's just random cess, with the cess migrating towards the quad when the times comes.
But right now, I dunno who is better in na/eu. I've only seen a few d|s demos (aph), and as impressive as d|s' play is, its hard to compare to the eu demos i've seen because their play is so much different :\.

It is definately not random cess. It is more like pq3dm6 cess :)

thats just the evolution q4's predecessor went through and q4 is now continuing that path. remember the first years of q3 when unmatched was still dominating. maps ended like 60-55 and even dm6 was like 100-90. the revolution came when team forze of russia noticed that rushing non-stop and then go for the spawnrapes was most effective. the only way to brake that spawnrape was to rush yourself all the time. thats basically how most maps were played at the end of q3.

now we have q4 and this new game's attributes even increase the constrain to cess. these attributes are to my mind:

- bigger hitboxes, makes mg cess more effective
- 100 mg bullets at spawn, gives you more ammunition you need to do endless seeming cess
- weaker "primary" weapons - the weapons you get when taking an important position - , i.e. rocket launcher, rail and shaft, makes it more difficult for you to kill the rushing enemy
- more powerfull "secondary" weapons - the weapons you get when spawning somewhere else, i.e. granade launcher, the new nailgun and especially shotgun, gives you some nice weapons to attack with ( the plasmagun doesnt fit this criteria but its still good for spam )
- too small maps, makes spawnraping easier and thus requieres rushing even more
- no enemy sounds, makes it very risky and unpractical to do "defensive spam" especially with rockets and granades.

I am aware of the fact that there will be nothing changed on the weapons and the hitboxes. so there are (at least) three things left which have to be changed to stop the cess:

- reduce mg ammunition to 50 like in q3 or even to 30, although I am aware that this might end up in endless spawnrape instead unless you
- make bigger maps at least of the size of bloodworks which would also counter the spawnrape affection
- and last but not least implement enemysounds, something should have done in the first release of any serious mod in my oppinion.

shit, I should have written a collumn but this had to be said. dont we all want to play more strategic matches, matches that challenge our minds the same way as our hand-eye-coordination? I think the answer is YES.

Actually the ammo thing should be done to most weapons. 400 ligthning gun ammo, is that some kind of uber typo?

it can be any weapon rapid fire weapon - mg/pg/rl, the term is used in qw too where there is no mg

Cess is the relentless aggressive attacking of the opponent even when you are easily outmatched Weapons/Health/Armour/Powerup wise. The classic example is Q3DM7 where the modern tactic is to charge the Red Armour/Railgun area with machinegun (Or any weapon you pick up on the way), the idea being that you deal so much damage that he will eventually die and you can take over the area.

the real idea behind cessing on dm7 is that if you dont you wont be able to get the ra/rail position back even if you have quad. you would get outrailed by four guys on 100/100 hitting 80% in those tiny entrances. its the consequence of the crazy aim most players have today.

That is the reason why cess is used not the idea behind it. I put take the area over because I couldn't be bothered to explain that on dm7 it usually just ends up as nobody getting the area and it is more so nobody has it, which dosn't really make sense unless you have played it it my opinion.

It comes from the word cesspool. This is an actual English word meaning "underground reservoir for liquid waste." It's used in modern English mostly in the sense to describe sewer, septic tanks, and sanitation systems. You can imply how that refers to constant mg battles :p.
