that's one of the many "def's qw setup" pages. i used one that was on quakeworld.nu long time ago when i was trying to get back into qw. he's a great qw player with a decently thought out system that's visually/functionally solid. not a bad place to start. not to mention it includes -everything- in the download.

if he gets killed, he doesn't want to drop a good weapon or ammo that his opponent can use

he'll drop the ammo anyways. it's only about dropping the weapon.

I personally always keep my RL out. I don't want to give up my shotgun or axe! Theyre the two most important weapons

he's using a script. Just like the others said, the goal is to not drop important weapons when you die. Of course fastswitch is an important parameter here. :)

yeah, i had a feeling it was a script. it seems kind of cheap to me, however. like a rocketjump script; if he did switched the weapons manually, i wouldn't feel nearly as bad about it.

It's common use in QW nowadays though and it's accepted in every tournament there is. When people started using rocketjumpscripts the community stepped in though and the majority of players voted for a ban. :)

There are players who don't use weaponscripts too. I guess the best example is Griffin.

i never look at the scores before watching a demo, ended up watching the game on aerowalk from the loser's pov and I seriously felt sad for him

the point of MVD is you can switch pov :)

in qw 4v4 if some one drops a RL or LG pack it can really give the enemy a big advantage. as long as i can remember players have used weapon scripts.

as weapon change is very fast it is instant anyway.

this is how i have my weapons setup in QW.

mouse 1 will shoot in this order 7/3/2 (fires RL, SSG, SG)
mouse 3 shoots 8/5/2 (this fires LG, SNG , SG)
space shoots 6/5/2 (this fires GL or SNG, handy for under water if i alrady have LG)
mouse 5 shoots 2 (SG only)

Looks like a pretty arsed way to play (I remember kane used to have this kind of setup back in 1998, he didn't use weapon switching but instead weapon shooting)

When I played 'the new quake' I just used the same binds as q3 but changed all my custom weapon macros so that my +fire would switch to the chosen weapon and my -fire would switch back to shotgun. It was only kinda annoying when I died when I have RL selected and every time I would try to fire when I respawned I would get that annoying console message that I didn't have that weapon (or something).

Anyway, what I wanted to ask was, doesn't a setup like that limit your possibilities? For instance, you are in the water and want to shoot with SNG but you have a GL aswell. From what I see you wouldn't be able to. Also having 3 different fire buttons seems odd to me although I guess with practice you would get used to fire with the right button :p

there is only dm3 with water tho so this doesnt happen much. if i have LG/SNG/GL then i cannot find sng :) i wouldnt go in water with LG tho anyway;)

if i had LG i would quickly leave and get to armor/quad.

using 4 different buttons to shoot might sound confusing yes. but the space with GL is not some thing i need to aimn that much, is onlyy like tap it etc.

i use the side thumb button to shoot SG, which isnt too good to aim.

but mouse1/3 i use the same finger to shoot and aim is fine.

your setup is similar to mine, except i put grenade launcher on mousewheel up, boomstick on mousewheel down, and SNG on space

try it out! i've found flicking the mousewheel works pretty good for non-rapid fire weapons. when i first picked the game back up, i left mouse1 bound as normal attack and mousewheel down as rocket as a crutch until i made the adjustment to always clicking mouse3 for shaft

i've always thought the axe script borders on cheating, and refuse to use it. i don't understand why the ggl won't play with the fairpack setting in ktpro, it's rarely an issue in duels but i feel with it off the game is a lot better because killing someone without any weapons takes incredible skill and you deserve their rocket launcher in return!

I use axe script just for laughs :) but honestly it puts you at a disadvantage compared to normal sg scripting and arguably even non-script users, at least in tdm, because your opponent can tell wether your pack has a weapon in it or not from wether you had the axe out when you were killed.

Anyway most people I think dislike weapon saving scripts but theres not really any good solutions. Fairpacks doesn't really work very well. Drop-last-weapon-fired favours script users even more than the normal packs mode as its so much easier for them to quickly fire sg before they die, than a non-scripter.

My weapon script that I have setup (but don't use) acts just like switching weapons does, but inbetween firing it goes to shotgun. For example, if you hit your rl select bind, it sets mouse1 to fire rl, but you leave the shotgun out when not firing. If you hit your lg firing bind, it sets mouse1 to fire lg, but same deal with shotgun.

This sort of a script can be used to get around the problems of 3 fire buttons.
