Pretty flawless. The sad thing is you could race the whole thing perfect and probably only get -1.5/2 secs of time improvement (actually... 5 min track... hmm)

Done, the track was designed as a 5 mins track, 5 people got into the 4's, mainly thanks to a shortcut which I did not take:(
If I took the shortcut I think 04:55:00 (3rd) would have been more than possible. The top two were obviously longterm players and a step above everyone else.

How much time did you have to set a time?

Umm, I would say it took me about 5 hours of game time over a period of two weeks on and off.
Most of it was crashing or hitting a barrier about the 3 minute mark, and resetting (and swearing like a sailor), because to stand a chance of getting a semi decent time you had to have a pretty flawless run.

It looks pretty simple from the AVI, but its deceptive. Some jumps you have to hit at a certain speed or you'll get flipped over, or take 8 seconds to do somehting which would take 2 seconds if you hit it at the right speed.
The two shortcuts would lower the time by about 8 seconds, but if you mess it up you have to restart the track, and it produces "lost fleet" type emotions. I.E. computer out of window-never play a video game again. Ever.

Unlike Quake, I think anyone could get really good at this providing they put in the hours.

Yeah I know the game and I know setting a good time on such a long track is pretty hard.

I thought the tournament was online with more people on a time attack server, hence my question :P

Yes you can load it. Dunno why it's not saying its not valid, you sure it's in the rigt place.

If you go to http://www.overdosecup.com/ then click ranking on the left you can see the admins have validated it as they did for all the demos.

Yeh this is not the norm, it was an endurance track for a cup and only Lost Fleet has made me swear more:)

Mostly the ones at ESWC will be like 1min 30. But the French or Germans will win cuz its huge over there.

Does it matter if it's huge except the fact that the probability increases with ammount of players?

Not really. If 10,000 new gamers came to Quake 4 do you think it would lower the probability of a top player like cooller winning?
Over a period of time possibly, but not in the short term.

I know this ain't q4, but the same thing applies. There's no substitute for experience.
And when I say germans and french own at TM, I'm referring to a handful of players from those countries, as opposed to the whole nation.

Nah, the core gamplay is local, the opponents are basically ghosts and the clock is the real opponent.
So whether you have 56k dial up or some leet ass swdeish connection, it's does not matter.

So long as I can play q4 too. I have no chance of winning the Uk qualifiers (in quake 4), but I'm keen to play a few people with a working keyboard this time around.

Yeh not anymore, they keep putting stupid ass custom maps on their servers filled with gimmiks and hardly any time to learn them before it's time to move onto another,so you never get to learn them properly.
