You're German, I can see why you might be less than keen to reflect on your countries past/present, because there is still a lot of negativity towards Germany for the WWI and WW2. Not just from the Uk, but from the Western World in general.

As a result you might prefer to to just keep quiet in such times.
As for Souh Africa, well, it has problems politically and economically (I have nothing against anyone), so those sorts of things can be socially defalting which is why you might feel less inclined to promote or understand days patrioism beause you might not feel as good about as certain things as some countries do.

I have to be honest I'm glad I am a British Citizen. It feels a privilidge and I'm just an average joe who does not even celebrate things like Dday, st georges/David's day.

The point that I was trying to get at (which you missed completely) is that we are all living on one world, sharing resources, with mostly the same attributes. If you want to be patriotic why not be patriotic about something worthwhile?

St. patricks day is celebrated more in england than St.gerogres, its just plain wrong.

i think you'll find drinking is celebrated more than st george's day more like, if st patrick's day was traditionally celebrated by giving up alcohol for a month I'm guessing it wouldn't be so popular, even more so in Ireland.
