Is there anyway mere mortals would be able to attend? When one applies for tickets one have to state some kind of relation with companies or press within the game industri, right?

You should still be able to print your own tickets on the door.
Just say you work for someone like Capcom and you forgot your pass.

It's really not hard to get in, partly why it's not as good these days cuz it's full of people who are not really supposed to be there who do nothing more than photo booth babes and hog up the games so you have to wait in line ages.

Still a good fun the first few times.
