what's with the lack of moves on cpm22?!

i'm not just directing this at voo and zoom, but i rarely see euros make use of stair jumps, especially in the RA room. IMO they are so much more useful and quicker than rocketjumps when you know how to do them, and it isn't that hard to learn!

In my defense, my cpm22 game was utterly poor, I played far below my usual. cpm1a was a tense game though, and cpm15 was just ... :P

Actually I don't care that much who won, important thing is that we have great demos to watch and that there are players who support cpma. Have fun!

Well vo0 is known for his trickjumps so I don't think it is that. The real reason is of course that you can't afford to showboat and do trickjumps when playing good opponents. If you watch the earlier round demos (where vo0 rapes) you'll see he does quite a bit more "risky" trickjumps.

b) not as fast as rjing i.e. u're longer exposed to the opponent standing low at tele and trying to rail u.

It truly is a shame when we can witness such amazing games like this and then face the sad truth that this sort of gaming isn't appreciated nearly as much as it should be.

I havn't viewed a game as closely matched or as entertaining as cpm1a since probably fox vs zero4 @ ESWC04. I still cannot understand why we are even pursueing quake4 as a viable game (at least we aren't in australia, lol!) when CPMA still exist, well hell - it's a damn shame PK died it had such potential - because it actully was a good game despite all the naysayers.

I'm not taking anything away from those people who like and are great at quake4, I don't mind the game as it is but how anyone can say q4 is either: more entertaining, more skillful or even more appealing is beyond me.

Kudo's to both vo0 and zoom, excellent games.

many esr posters - including myself - strongly suspect it's because hardware sponsors are the organizers main income. it would spell the end to endless hardware upgrades in the competitive scene.

Should have just packaged Quake4 with CPMA as MP then ;p.

Show off SP at the tech shows and leave CPMA for the comps :D

I think developers SHOULD code system-spec intensive games. It makes this industry work....however, why does it seem like every new game has lackluster gameplay? Is it really THAT hard to do both in 1 game?

yeah, i agree. there was a fantastic thread on esr about rocket holes, which i think is the tip of the ice berg with what you can do with the maps and the physics.

actually the more i think about it, the less i completely agree. it's fine for the games industry, but developers and especially artists, never stretch the engine to it's full potential. also i think theres no need for spec heavy games in the competitive scene.

but competitive scene is not a market for any developer / publisher. it's all about noobs, lot of noobs :-)

i think it's about stability and in the long run, i believe i'll be proven right.

If they would charge for playing competitive games like MMO, the whole "scene thing" could look better. Making well balanced and uberplayable multiplayer game is way too expencive compared to single player + mp in a "play it or go fuck yourself" manner.

you are right. whole industry is transforming into something hollywood-alike, from gamer perspective it's not that good, because there's going to be lot of sequels and "proven" concepts. but when it comes to development studio, I think it's fine.

It is almost exactly like Hollywood with the same bizarre unwillingness to invest in scripts or gameplay that fill similar roles in the two mediums. The sad truth is that the majority of FPS game makers are incapable of designing a good competitive FPS because they can barely play and are only interested in the moronic kiddy crowds.

Competitive gaming certainly doesn't need to use shoddy platforms to drive advertising, it's just that our scenes are too badly fragmented so the only options are CS (a big scene for advertisers) and crappy new games to showoff hardware and zombie communities. A competitive game that provides a good spectacle and has a fanbase for advertisers would not need fancy graphics. Look at Starcraft.

CPMA needs more players and spectators.

It's true that developers are trying to match their demographic target, but I don't agree with kiddies since games are targeted at older audiences.

I just want to point that making competitive platform doesn't make money for developer. It's pointless. 500 000 guys won't buy CPMA, but will buy Godfather, even if it's crappy. It's business, not charity.org.

The sad thing is, that we got best competitive platform ever made - CPMA, and due to lack of tournaments, leagues for new players etc it's dying.

Q4 is a nice game, i even play it quite often. But the beautiful matches from all big Q3 tourneys like ESWC, QLAN, QuakeCon etc. were soooo much more exercising, and interesting to the viewers. Hell, i miss those days and those games :(
