Yeah, unless koddy was just having a bad day (which might be partly the case), rat has turned on rage-mode.

The great thing about this tournament is that there finally is a way to compare the players and their skill level (except of course some euro-american ping distortions). I'm so anxious to see how the Geeekooo v Rat game turns out, cant even tell you :).

in any case, all of this calls for some big lan with 10k+ prize money :)

seriously. its waaaay more fun watching this than anything else.

I personally consider Rat's mouse more attractive prize than a 10k purse, but maybe that's just the fanboy me :/

koddy has been the form player for a while now and many peoples favourite for the tourney, but rat was just 2hot2handle in this match... wow.

I tired watching the CPM1a demo and it wouldn't play - I have the map or at least I have a version of it. Its called CPM1a its not the old original version. I don't have CPMA so I've tried to run it through OSP which used to work?

Does multi-view even work in OSP? In any case, the full cpma download is only 120 mb, so easiest would be just downloading that.

MVD demo's won't work unless you run them via CPMA. OSP doesn't suport the mvd feature. So just dl cpma and away you go :p

Yes even with a osp'ish spawn fartest system ra spawns would still happen. It's the map's fault, not cpma as such.

It's either completely random, or plain stupid. You can get closest spawns possible and if it's not random I don't see why this is anything positive really. Imo the OSP spawn system with a slightly more random component would be the best.

I think OSP is somewhat like "random out of the 3 spawns that are furthest away" while CPMA seems to be completely random, including closest spawns. What do you mean?

It's biased spawns.

e.g. The furthest spawn gets XX% nearest gets X%.

If I recall correctly arQon removed the very nearest spawn.

pm2 i.e the current cpm ruleset has 'biased spawns' from what i've read in the docs or the forums.. don't exactly remember where. i think i remember arqon saying that with this system, spawns are still random for the most part but the chances of spawning right next to the killer are less.

im guessing this works by 'eliminating' 1 or 2 spawnpoints closest to the killer's position and then picking a random spawn from the rest.

Biased Spawns (the only strategic change)
Motivation: Minimise streaks of "cheap luck".
Biased player respawns mean that a player CAN respawn at any spawnpoint, but is more likely to respawn some distance from where he died. While clearly still superior to baseq3's utterly predictable respawns, and significantly less likely (note: NOT impossible) to result in unpleasant "get spawnfragged in the same place 3 times in a row" than the "true random" scheme that CPM uses, there are still elements to it that I'm not really comfortable with. My personal opinion is that that there IS no "best" way to handle respawns, because of the variance in map layouts etc and in the events that lead up to the frag in the first place. Still, to paraphrase the ELM docs: "All respawn schemes suck. This one just sucks less than the others". :)

thanks for clearing that up, sounds quite good idd. was just wondering how it works as you can still get damn close spawns in cpma (e.g. on ztn, kill on gl platform and spawn right next to you)

spawns are essentially ranked, but by weight rather than just a linear progression. If the spawns are 100, 250, 250, and 400 units away, the nearest spawn has a 10% chance, the furthest 40%, and the other two 25% (conceptually, at least: in reality, the nearest spawn is explicitly excluded so that fights "over" an item always reward the winner with that item).

Koddy said in the demo that he was very nervous and was shaking too much to even take a piss, so he probably wasn't playing his best, I dunno. Hopefully his nerves will be calm and alright for his next game :D
