gg, people whined about ugly player, weapon models, bad hitsounds and weapon sounds in Q4....but this is just rofl...i just couldnt watch demo without s_volume 0
I haven't said that look matter. But these models are just too ugly, and sounds....even that game which was made by american Q3 player (can't remember name) was damn better in sounds (ball enemys>all)
Well man, a beta is a beta, aka not complete yet. And when you pair that with it being free there's really no room to bitch, unless you're a douche of course.
my point is that you cant say something is good just because it's free. if the developers want people to play it over the comercial games, then people have to prefer it. i understand that things are harder to do for open source teams, but they should listen to the community's criticism which will help them stay one step ahead of the comercial studios. but the criticism should be constructive.
Oh I'm not disagreeing with that. When did I ever say it was good just because it's free? I love it for what it is, and I wouldn't mind paying for it at all once it got out of beta. I just love the speed and the combination of qw/cpma stlye movement with dodge jumping, it's just awesome. I do find myself missing crouch sliding though, that's just fun as hell too. But wsw is fun as hell in it's own way. Imo once it reaches a completed status it will be better than Q4mainly because of it's sheer speed. I'm a very movement focus player, movement is probably my favorite thing about games like quake and warsow. I'm sure the maps, balance, sounds, and everything else will be awesome as well in wsw. I just can't wait until it really takes off. :)

If I take the first news item on warsow.net as start http://www.warsow.net/?p=news&ns=40 than its in development since 2004 which means 2 years until 0.11 - so 2024 we will get warsow 1.0 :-)

* can't read french, it seems to be a bot page which might have developed a bot for warsow. Can't tell I found the link in the oldest newsitem on warsow.net. At least 2002 "2002 - Le jeu War§ow" Warsow was called at that website.
Chasseur de bots is the e-novel written by SoLomoNK which warsow ('s theme and style) is based on/inspired by.
And yes, wsw has been in development for years, but lately the progress has been much faster then before. As long as the team stays active, expect War§ow 1.0 to be released BEFORE 2070! (dont quote me on this by the time its 2070 :/ )
From 1999 to 2001, I was writing an e-novel named Chasseur de bots ("Bots hunter" in english). The story was taking place both IRL and inside a game (an FPS called Warsow), main characters being coregamers.
In 2000, I discovered trix jumps in quake 2, tks to OZH from www.frenchfragfactory.net, who made great tutorials demos of various q2 tricks jumps. Then, I knew that trix were the way. Highly influenced by Jet Set Radio in the other hand, I started to write a short game design document, and in early 2002, I started to recruit.
In any case, I'm now sure of one thing. In 2002 or 2003, even if we had released an as much "decent" version as the one we just provided few days ago, we wouldn't have get a such good feedback about it. It simply would have been too soon.
got a strange delay between fire and weapons effect+sound, i'd bump that up on my priority list, since instant feedback makes for a much more enjoyable game. especially the hit sounds are important since they determine what you do next.
frankly, if it's this good in 0.11 beta (everything worked perfectly) then everything's possible for this neat little game :)
Sounds are not thaaat bad. models are ugly yes but you only notice on demos, when playing you just focus on the hitbox so not a big problem either. Comparing a buggy bloated software like q4 1.x with a 60mb .1 w§w download is teh stfu.
I played QuakeWorld-PureCTF clanfights for about 3-4 years,
(Yes, the one with the hook etc)... and there has not been
a single game on the market that has captured the speed
and adrenaline that QW-CTF had.
Ultrono had some of it, but not quite...
Warsow does it... Plain and simple... its an orgy of Speed
and adrenalin... I admit, the graphis looks a bit simpli-sh,
if you stand still. On the other hand, the game isnt designed
for standing still, watching small details. It's designed for
speed and HighFPS and with a minimalistic approach to
weapon-effects which imo works perfectly. (then again,
I'm used to QWs brightskinned models, and rockets.. ;)
The cartoonshading is kindof cute, and it works...
The playermodels however, could use touch of a "real"
artist. But that's just my oppinion as a programmer. ;)
I still miss the hook, although the more I learn to use the
walljumps, the more doubt it would do any good.
I'm appalled at the CTF-gameplay though...
The part where two teams maks a cross-steal, and gets
the game into a stalemate, is what makes the game grow
as a team-game. What needs to be added to the CTF mode
are the Runes(Resist,Strength,Regen,Haste), and the maps
needs some kind of a stalemate-breaker like the 666 or a
Quad.
I believe that, if theese are implemented, in some fashion,
The ctf-game would get a true revival...
Oh, yes.. while I'm rambling on.. The ctf-lvls needs to be designed for speed as well as technique. The current CTF
lvl is mostly technique... Take a look at the old CTF-maps
for QW-pureCTF, and you will see what I mean.. (more open areas etc)
And while I'm at it... throw that one-shot-one-kill-overpowered
weapon out of the game (yea.. the rail... it blows the game)

Well, not as entertaining as too experienced players playing each other. You could see that Mote was doing all his stuff right and vo0 was more well...walking around.
The battles though...sometimes vo0 gave him a hard time (1st game ;)
I looooooooooooooove the DJWheat announcements, the only time it gets irritating is when he whines at me for not readying but thats how it should be :D
Also gets annoying when you have like 20 lead changes in like 5 seconds in TDM. "Your team has taken the lead" "You Have lost the lead." "Your team has taken the lead".........That gets irritating.
What? mortalkombat like announcements were great in 1999 but... grow up. Warsow is a true futuristic themed game, from every aspect, no more satan worshiping please.
people have not changed. and you are staking my work i see, despite the fact you hate the game. btw if i ever finish uploading the warsow demos, im gonna upload quake 2 and 4 too on my channel.
