So does CS source. If using latest tech was really that important for the big hardware sponsors (amd, intel, nvidia etc.), why are they sponsoring a ~10-year-old low-tech game like CS 1.6 when they could be sponsoring a high-tech game like CS Source? CS Source userbase is almost as big, and it would be even bigger if it was used as the primary tournament game.

Not only is Q3's userbase bigger than that of Q4. The low hardware requirements mean the game is more accessible to the mainstream. And after all, CPL's primary goal is to mainstream the "sport", not sell hardware. Q3 has GTV, a huge plus when it comes to creating tournament buzz. The overall game is just better suited for high-competitive play IMO.

All the pros I've talked to would switch back to Q3 immediately if the game was picked up by the tournaments again. But yea, it will probably never happen. However, I don't buy the theory of Q3 not being used simply because the hardware sponsors don't want to sponsor a low-tech game.

Q3 also has a bigger fanbase than Q4. However, fanbase size is not that important to the CPL; at least it hasn't been previously. I think their use of AVP2 and PK proves this. They are happy as long as their tournaments fill up and they can create some mainstream buzz. After all, their primary goal is to mainstream and commercialize the sport. Whether their games have a player base of 500,000 or 50,000 doesn't matter much in this "pre-mainstream phase" as long as all 512 spots get filled at their tournaments.

The CPL has a habit of choosing new games; they think "what's new is hot". That's why they switched from 1.6 to source initially too. Only this time CS community protested heavily and The CPL decided not to act against the majority like they did when they trashed Quake 3 in favor of smaller games like UT, AVP2, PK...

However, that doesn't mean the hardware sponsors are unwilling to support old games with lower tech. Their sponsoring of CS 1.6 and Starcraft tournaments show that they are, in fact, willing to do just that. So why wouldn't they be willing to sponsor Q3?

They are willing, see ESWC 2003/4/5. The only reason 2006 is Q4 is because of all the hype and the "potential" of a great new Quake + CPL WT etc.

Overplayed? So is cs, sc, wc3, chess, checkers, etc... If maps is the only thing holding everyone back i am sure any talented mapper would not have a problem making maps for q3.

yea he's right. Most people won't bother registering in order to place their vote. Heck, most people don't even think their vote would make a difference anyway. And they might be right. The chances of CPL going back to Q3 are not exactly good.

It might, JUST MIGHT be possible to bring back Q3 for 2007 if we somehow manage to show that there is a significant pro-Q3 majority within the Quake community.

Untill pro players/clans get over the incentive of the big money wins for a game they hardly enjoy and come together for a boycott nothing is going to change. Look at gtr mod, he has fixed your hitboxes and slightly increased the game speed, now that mod is fun and entertaining (more maps made with REAL thought in mind of old quake gameplay PLZ) and you shouldnt have too many other issues that he isnt willing to address yet nobody is bothered to hardly play on the servers/pickup. The map pool has been cried over for how long yet these "pro" players still practice for a snoozefest of a match.
Community spirit in games is not what it used to be, everyones out to make an impression with whatever the leagues tell them to play all in the hope of a big contract/respect. Well you would get more respect from a community that saw you take action to keep all these people hanging around with nothing to play together in a fun competitive game.

As regards crouch sliding.. yea, it is a cool feature no doubt. Wish it would be implemented into Q3 OSP as well. But then again, Q3 is ten times better in most other aspects... and you can unlearn your habit of sliding again. It's a fun feature, but it doesn't really make or break a game.

I just don't wanna play q3 again really. I know sliding is but a small addition, but added into the gtr mod on the correct maps could make for some fucking brilliant gaming. On lost fleet (blaaat i know) you can circle the whole circumference of the map with decent strafe/slides up the ramps in no time. Not the best way to explain but the physics of the game with a little speed could be incredible. Their must be some mappers out their seriously who have decent deathmatch knowledge from previous quakes to make a few hardcore maps.

Q3 was and still is a great game i still love to play, but it's time for something new. Q4 has definately more than enough potential to resist the upcoming "menace", named UT2007 imho!
The work, which is done by both, q4m and xbm, mod-teams should be honored. They are doing a really great job.

Cypher, people wants to play games, not fix games, they (id, raven) had the time to look at what has been done with osp and make something similar in terms of stability/quality. A 100% fixed Q4 will not be better than the actual Q3 anyway. If you want, add some new quality Q3 maps to the pool and add the great plus of big competition involved. People will start playing again while they are having fun, something no one of the actual FPS acomplishes. Just think about cs1.6, or sc in korea. If gaming wants to improve, they need to stick to the same 1v1 game, and not switch every year to an another bugged game waiting to be fixed again.

Quake 3 has no appeal what so ever for the mainstream audience that the CPL is trying to capture...wheres the 'cool' in the hardcore playing a game thats nearly a decade old...Q4 has that appeal, everybody has heard of the Quake series, but most mainstream players/spectators will never have really have played Quake3 to any big extent. I am in the opinion that Q4 gameplay does have to be changed in order to make it more competitive and fun to play/watch. It is however undeniable that Quake4 does have alot of potential as a competitive and community game.

in regards to the gameplay changes... GTR is the way forward...the changes call for new maps, larger ones i think would be best, therefore making maps other than boxes with stuff inside. i suggest those that didnt like quake4base/max/xbm to try GTR.

so, why wouldn't the mainstream think it's cool playing the "most competitive multi-player game out there" (think of that as a marketing slogan)? Q4 would just assume it's role as the next single player chapter in the quake series, and Q3 would still be the multi-player, competitive quake game.

if the games played would be marketed as "the game with the most competition" instead of "the latest game with the fanciest shader blabla graphics blableh" the mainstream could catch on very well.

cs, sc, wc3, q3 and games like that are the only games that could be competitive games, since it's in the nature of those games to be played as competitive multi-player.

We tried this already with UT2004 and had no success. We had thousands of signatures on the petitions blah blah...

Oh and in my humble opinion, Quake4 practically IS Quake3 with some 'slight' modifications. I'm not talking about the bugs obviously, but given enough time I'm sure most of those will be fixed anyway...

Well in 2004 you had QLAN 2, ESWC 2004, Quakecon 2004 all were big tournaments really. Then came Doom3, PK and the world tour which seemed to take a large chunk of the player base away (Even though they weren't playing either Doom3 or PK....).

Doom 3 took away a real Quake 3 1vs1 tournament (Which would have been just as big as the previous year to be honest) from Quakecon, ESWC 2005 was awesome and there was no QLAN :(.

Angel has expressed that he thinks it is the best 1vs1 DM game ever and he would never have dropped it if the relationship with id hadn't soured.

ESWC gave continued support (And probably would still be using Quake 3 had 4 not been released) as did Quakecon untill it was required (By id) to support it's latest game (And even then managed to squeeze in a Q3 tournament in the form of Ms.Quakecon)

No idea who was behind QLAN but it wasn't a big corporation such as CPL/ESWC so it did it's best while it could etc.

WCG seemed to simply drop it because the CPL did and UT2k3 was being released. They seem to be abandoning 1vs1 FPS altogether now anyway so.....

The fact its skillful as hell at a top level, watching the matches is always interesting and fun.

Your statement its beyond pointless. WHY fix a game which has a broken base (hi 60fps), and will be not better than Q3 on a 100% fixed status? People want Q4 be more like Q3 (see the polls), in other words, they want Q3 back. Its question of quality, not nostalgia and nonsense arguments. If people keeps fixing broken games, companys never will learn how to put effort on the MP side, so the best thing to do its stick with the actual perfect 1v1 game (Q3), and wait for someone to release a decent 1v1 MP game, playable out of the box that would be a worth succesor of Q3 (if this never happens). Q4 will never be as popular Q3 was in his firsts years, when it was the main 1v1 game of the CPL. ffs, I remember seeing hundreds of servers with people dueling and having fun at the same time.

i think q3 needs some kind of "reforms" like new q3 osp, maybe with crouchslides or the possibility to shoot trough teleportes ( the only good stuff in q4) , maybe less selfdamage with rocketlauncher with would make the movement more important and boost up the game speed.
i think q3 isnt dead yet and has a quite large potential to change.
q3 like the last 6 years for future would be boring in my opinion, but better than q4 in every case.

Ok guys, here is my idea:

We first bring up some tournaments (I will help with this) and then we will see how many people really play our all loved game.

And when there were some "warmup-tournaments" I hope some big LANs and tournaments grab it and make it as big as it was.....maybe even bigger ;]

We don't need anything new actually. We need something good and that's infact Quake3. Im playin Quake4 too and I even like it - but with Quake3 we would have a bigger fanbase again, maybe even a fanbase that is growing from new - cpl would effect other tourney-organisations for sure and as a result we could reenforce a new "prime". It's a dream and I think realisticly speeking, it'll be a dream forever.

By the time Quake 4 finally gets fixed the CPL would already move to a new game like UT2K7. And to play a new game to get hardware sponsors is a bit bs to me. We all play other games, I mean if Quake 3 is still used in tournies, that does not mean we don't play the latest hardware intensive games like oblivion for example. The sponsors need to support the communities, pk had no community and quake 3 still have a very big comunity. Even here in South Africa I sometimes can't connect to some of the CA/CTF servers cause they are full and in the other 1vs1 server there is a queue of 8 people. Yet we need to spam in irc to get in one quake 4 1vs1 game.

For me Q3 is a lot more fun to play. Q3 is a lot more exciting to spectate. Q3 is basically how good Quake 4 will be in a few years time? Q3 is compitition ready.

when i think about that topic i always ask myself : are there really people who played q3 and q4 for a longer time and prefering q4 ?

i imagine how good q3 will look (gfx,netcode,sound...) if the modteams will switch to q3. im sure the advance of q3 will even be faster than the q4 mods. because more people care and more people will be thankfull and more people love q3. q3 is remembered as a milestone in gaming, i doubt q4 can achieve that.
today still many hardware pc pages making benchmarks with q3. if some sourceprojects add new hardwaredemanding gfx effects it can be used for the next few years from lowpocketpc benchmarks up to 4000$pcs.
you know the qw clients, they demand all pc hardware too with high gfx settings. so theres no reason why hardware sponsors should not like q3

Q3? Of course! Since the departure of q3 from main tournaments, there hasn't been which was so enjoyable to watch, created so many legendary players (that should not be forgotten!), and was so unbelievably smooth...

Many of us know that Quake 3 was so perfect. Why not let it BE so perfect? Why not let it be? Just put it back into all those big tournaments and events. Quake 3 will do the rest.

Seeing it again at CPL would be astonishing. And, to me, it would boost the opinion on CPL by +500%.

Statements like that are absolutely pointless. The mayor percentage of players that want to play 1v1 for fun+competitively (yes, both at the same time) will play Q3, is that simple. The "move one" argument its nonsense, sounds like people like you have hope for a decent 1v1 game to come and be popular or something. 1v1 fast paced games will never be at the mainstream level CS its now. Why people still play CS and SC and the people at 1v1 has to move on to shitty new games, because they are "new"?. So, the best thing to do its bring back Q3 to the 1v1 main game status and stick with it since someone releases a worth succesor.

Q3 wasnt perfect and there where the same shity comments to bring q2 back etc.. give q4 more time couse you expect to much at the moment.. also gtv wasnt in q3 just after it came out.. just be patient and let people work to make q4 better.. and i hope q4tv will come soon too..

just off the top of my head, but there are alot more reasons as to why q3 should be used:

-q4 is hard on alot of peoples machines and pockets -1
-q4 has very few people playing after all ths time, and less every day -1
-q4 isnt made for competetive play -1
-q4 has clumsy physics suited for singleplay not multiplay -1


from this info alone q4 gets a 6


-q3 is very easy on machines and hits pockets none at all +1
-q3 has alot of people playing after all this time +1
-q3 is all about competetive play +1
-q3 has superb physics designed solely for multiplay +1


from this info alone q3 gets a 14

IMO, Quake 3 is too fast to support crouchslide. Just imagine moving around pro-q3dm6, where would you actually use it? It suits quake 4 a lot more where maps are so corridor based with very little room to speed up with normal quake style strafe jumping.

Projectiles through telies may actually change they way most of the maps like hub/pt4 are/where played.

I think in order to make quake 3 competitive again, a new set of maps needs to be released. Yes the Quake 3 maps are 1000 X better than any quake 4 map atm, but I think we can even improve on those maps.

GOnnna have to go against this. It would defintely satisfy the 700-800 hardcore q3 players that love the game, but the maps have been so overplayed that I can't find any enjoyment out of maps like ztn and prot4 at this point. I doubt it would raelly bring any new users to the sport and most mainstream newsites aren't going to exactly have reviting comments about a tournament game that came out in 1999.

Maps are not important as long as we have 5 really solid ones. There is plenty of good games to be had on these old maps. Plenty of room for individual styles etc. Just like there is plenty of diversity to be had on the same ol' green field in football.

Besides, there are already hundreds of potential Q3 DM maps that have never been used in competitions. Just check http://lvlworld.com/index.php - not only does Q3 have better maps, it has a much, MUCH larger selection too...

I'm sure skill level would go up as it has since 2000. As for q3 regaining a huge following - yeah, people said the same thing about quake 4.- how it would flock all the people back that use to paly quake. DeathMatch 1on1 play hasn't been popular for years. casuals and average gamers aren''t going to switch back or start playing quake 3. The skill level is to freaking high now. Most of todays younger gamers are being brought up with xbox live - q3 isn't even selling in many stores, and if it is it's at budget price, which alot of people will think it's a crappy and lousy old game since price tag is about 10 bucks now. The only way for e-sports too move forward is for a new compitent game to come out, which quake 4 sadly didn't. Quake 3 still has impressive numbers compared to other pc games on the gamespy online stat chart - but the thing is most of those players are eitehr newbs that like those rail only mods or excessive servers, or people that still like playing CTF. Here in America there are hardly any 1on1 servers to be found at ALL. So skill would basically come down to who bootcamps with the right people and who has the most time to train.

We're not talking about replacing Q4 for any tournaments already announced -- already practiced and bootcamped for. We're talking about replacing Q4 with Q3 for _FUTURE_ tournaments (e.g. 2007).

So basically the situation looks like this:

Players: We only switch back if The CPL switch back.

The CPL: We only switch back if the players switch back.

Result: Nothing happens.

Really, The CPL should realize how much power they have. If CPL picked up Q3 again, Q3 would re-gain a HUGE following. All pros I have talked to would switch back immediately. As a result of this shift, average gamers would probably switch as well. And seeing as Q3 is ALREADY more popular than Q4, I really don't see any risk in switching back to Q3. Add to that the fact that the game is more accessible, less buggy and overall simply better (GTV anyone?), the choice seems so obvious.

Even arQon has now stated that he would be willing to support Q3 again _IF_ the CPL switch back. So it all comes down to whether the CPL is willing to make that decision or not. And seeing as they have made much riskier decisions in the past (choosing AVP2, PK etc.), this decision should be really easy.

So why dont you and other top players switch back?

First of all, all the pro players are practicing Q4 for the upcoming Q4 tournaments and cannot afford to switch games right now. No one believes that these tournaments will suddenly be replaced by Q3. We're hoping, however, that CPL will announce Q3 for _FUTURE_ tournaments (e.g. 2007).

It is true that if ALL players switched back to Q3 now, the CPL would pretty much be forced to switch back as well. But what you fail to realize is that all the pro players are not one entity - they are competing individuals. Very few pro gamers would risk switching back to Q3 when there is no guarantee that _ALL_ their competitors would do the same. For any one individual pro gamer, switching back to Q3 is risky - and in case their competitors do not switch as well and the CPL does not switch as a result - they lose valuabe Q4 experience that they need to make them money. No pro gamer wants to give his opponents an edge as it reduces his own chances.

The CPL, on the other hand, IS one entity - and a powerful one. All they have to do is switch, and _ALL_ (minus immortal) the pro players will switch as well. And as I said above, the risks in doing so for the CPL, calculating the size and popularity of Q3 compared to Q4, are basically non-existant. Therefore the CPL must be the first to act.

Well I am sure that more than ~ 17 will go back to quake 3. When cpl had pk as their main game, when where all still playing good 'old?' Quake 3. Even with Quake 4 improving I still don’t see the support that Quake 3 has right at this very moment.
I can’t think of any valid reason to switch to game; that has very little support by communities(Q3(large/strong) to AVP(tiny) to PK(tiny) to Q4(small/dying)); That have to many bugs to count; A game that is not very enjoyable to play and watch for the most. That’s very unfriendly towards users etc. Quake 3 is perfect, it’s got the maps, removed the bugs, has the player base, is very exciting to watch and very fun to play. It has all the features mod teams are reinventing for Quake 4. And off course it’s got GTV.

Why are we continually going backwards in terms of competition ready games? By the time Quake 4 will be up to standard cpl would have probably moved on to UT2007, which have no guarantee that it would be ready for competition use.

And in case we need a new game for hardware sponsors? No, we do not, if <insert hardware sponsor here> supports a community of players, the quake 3 community, it does not mean we ONLY play Quake 3, but we also play games that requires the latest hardware, oblivion anyone? I support a sponsor that supports my community, not the latest game.

Its not a matter of what id/raven did wrong with Quake 4, it’s a matter of what id did right with Quake 3, and that is giving us an enjoyable and highly competitive game to play until something/someone improves on that, which (sadly/or not) has not happened.

mh crouchsliding is a possibility which can be tested , if it doesnt afford to the community, it can be switched off again.

It's kinda funny how I blasted the hell out of q4 when it was released and lot of people here thought quake 4 was the second coming. It's like they had the mentality that since it's 'quake' 4 it automatically rocks. now that I think it's starting to become a fun game and acceptable (thanks to syncerros involvement and the q4 max team) those same people are now blasting the hell out of q4 and are all praying for q3's return. I think there's alot of people here that don't know what the hell they want.

pdm6 plays alot better than dm6tmp, at least in duel (never played it in TDM, don't know the tdm item layout)

The same conversations were had when Q3 was first released and Q2 was loved by many and very refined with competition mods, etc.

Angel Munoz has officially stated that Quake 3 _IS_ the perfect game for competitive play. And CPL has already gone backwards in the past (CS 1.6 -> CS Source -> CS 1.6). Also, CPL has stated that they would be willing to go back to Q3 if there were enough supporters (read post #0). These are just some of the indications that you're wrong.

I personally don't give a shit about pro-gaming, to me gaming is all about the fun factor and as it is now, Q4 isn't fun playing nor is it fun watching. I'd rather watch some mediocre Q3 CPMA players playing eachother for the fun of it in cpm masterscup than watching some "I-couldn't-care-less-about-q4-pros" playing some half-assed game which they're not even enjoying for prize money. Dear god please don't put crouch slide and other q4 stuff in q3. Leave the game the way it is. Don't ignore what any CPL admin says about "if there is enough interest we would consider it" while it might not seem like it they are 100% serious. It is all about how a community approaches it which explains why cs:s has about as many tournaments as q3 does right now. While it was being talked about anyways I have been told that CAL will be doing a Q3 league next year, with a chance of maybe having a euro division for it also like BF2 has going. Man I really wonder if CPL would look at the activity in CAL to see if they should host any sort of tournament for any of there upcoming lan events. =)

I would love to see Q3 back in action.. i've played it since release and can't understand what you people are whinig about. Q4 is out, sure... but is it as good as q3? No way!

Sure, it hasn't got an as huge playerbase as CS etc, but i still se a lot of players and never have trouble finding people to play with.

Maps are a bit old (but compare to de_dust in CS for example).
I still play and enjoy them.

The game is fast-phased but smooth and lots of fun!

Great graphics, really is IMO (I run it in r_picmip 5 etc tho :D). and still, about any computer can run it.

If you can find an equally good 1v1/tdm game, i'd get very suprised (kind enjoy rtcw-ET tho, but its not the same type of game at all).

Quake 3 Arena (OSP) is the most complete game ever. Everything you could ever want from a fast fps game is there AND it can run on older computers.



There is still alot of semi-pro gamers playing it, and it will make a great tournament. If Fatal1ty, z4, all the IC's (fox, tox etc), and the russians would come aswell, it would be plain sick!

thing is, the 'pro-circuit' as it were has already left the game and everyone else has moved on in their own individual ways, it won't be the same. it's a good game, but half of the reason it was such a great game to spectate was the high level of competition, individual player flare and ensuing controversy. imo.

but as i said none or few of the pro actually like tha game and most of them thinks that Q3 is a funnier game.

Q3 is still the best game for 1v1 purposes. Its the game that made pro-gaming more known since it was the first game for the CPL. It has the perfect balanced speed to be fun to play and to be spected by casual viewers and not get bored/lost. And since im not going to do a "why Q3 owns" list, read the posts on the thread, there are lot of reasons for pick Q3 again.

There are some good paragraphs on the Carmac's GGL article about future gaming:

The community has already been split with CS 1.6(A game made by the community) on one side and CS source(A game made for pubbers on the request of pubbers) on another side. Why? Just like quake 3, yeah I know, am comparing CS to Q3, I should be cursed for that, despite being two different type of gameplay, CS 1.6 is much more competition friendly that Source. Dude, take a look at those source maps and its gameplay in general. Same thing happening if I were to compared Q3 to Q4.

Don't get me wrong, I like both Q3 and CS 1.6. But there is no way in the world, the 1.6 community would switch to source even if we had guns next to our head :)

Thats why I do believe that CS promod, might help, by allowing big sponsors like nvidia and amd to show that game like CS promod pushes their hardware to its limits. And I do thk think that if E-Sport were to evolve, a game is played because of the gameplay not the gfx. So instead of a Q4 at the CPL, its better to have Q3 which is so far the best DM game ever created.

OSP had a bigger lead in the popularity i guess. and then its the "if it isnt broken, dont fix it." tho the definition of 'broken' got twisted here.

a good example is when CPMA removed the pmove system completely, and thus made the movement physics completely undependant of fps and ping. OSPrs still didnt want to change because they had gotten too used to the broken physics.

guys pls stop to search for one reason which can give the point for all :( it needs much more as some votes on a page , the more interesting part is : Who can bring Q3 back in support ? u need someone who controll the game , someone who can update anticheat , code and other features. CS had/have alot of cheaters but the codes give the big part of the community the feeling of 100% support from the builders side or a mod team with alot of time which they can invest in support of game and community.

and... another thing : who can bring the mass of users back to the Q3 side if they play games like CS/CSS or WoW or UT or WC3 or.... u need much more as some new maps and features to get them back. People which leaved Q3 in reason of to much nepotism , ignorance , egism in so much points ( one of the biggest : to much cheater in alot of "pro" called clans / another one : the monotonous leagues / events / cups in the past had lost the interest of alot of quakefans [ after years of only a handfull players in professional games like fatality , zero4 .. in pastq3 and later painkiller with voO and fat and now in q4 with fat and cooler .... )
this not enough to bring thousands of quakefans back to paying for this in ways like visiting coverages about this events , visiting lanevents ( alot of investions ) , invest money hardware for the game , investing time in the game to play it ... and so much more points ...

PLS dont understand me wrong , i love Q3 , no game since 99 has me more fascinated as Q3 and now i play it by time and dont wanna miss it ( specialy Rocketarena 3 :D ) but let us be realism!
Q3 needs realy alot of new energy to come back as big accepted game in eSports , look esl.eu and look where the most users play , for example : over 10000 in CS and then Q3 & Q4 600 . This takes me the last hope for Q3 back in eSports :(

I think that if ID wanted to make a comeback for Q3 then they eaisly could. They could make a new point release, upgrade some technical issues to enhance the gameplay, and get together with some mappers and make some new maps. This would no doubt bring hundreds of gamers back to q3.

Just take a look at all the CS players. They realized that 1.6 still is the better multiplayer game (when compared to Source) and simply switched back to 1.6, thus forcing all the cups and leagues to switch back, too. It worked rather flawlessly. Nice, huh?

I would have thought quakecon would be the first to host a large CPM 1v1 tournament. After all quakecon is supposed to be for the fans of quake...
I would definitely go if there was a cpm event of some sort and help out as much as I could (even out of my own pocket).

IMO, when Quake 3 was dying, all it needed was a bunch of new maps that the community would be forced to play. People got tired after playing the same maps for like 5 years, everyone know THE strategy needed for a map and everyone played it the same. New games bring new maps so new tactics and strategies to find out. Specially with Q3CTF it was the same maps over and over again (wcp9, wcp1, wcp15, w3 etc etc).

Clanbase did experiment with new maps in their summercups, but the potential of this was kinda downsized due to the change to play CTF 4v4 instead of 5v5 (which we are used to in Europe). Furthermore, summercups weren't played as serious or intense as Eurocups or Opencups. An idea like the qubism mapping contests we see for Q4 and Warsow now would've brought some new life in Q3 for sure.

I'd say, bring Quake 3 back, take the good things from Q4 (crouch sliding, portal shooting), revise the weapon damage (specially MG and rail) and force some new maps into the community to make the game seem as good as new, but still have all the good old stuff.

The trick is to introduce new maps without losing the classics.

I mean how can you justify losing ZTN/DM6/PT4, you can't however you can jusitfy simply adding new maps. When you have old maps like those It means you can simply just keep adding to the map pool over time (without removing maps, unless they suck)

Of course, it would be stupid to lose the old classics which are still good, but people should try new things to let them have a new experience. I remember #ctfpickup.euro trying to introduce some of the other not-so-popular Threewave maps into their pickups. It didn't work very well, since most people just came to have a quick game and shoot some people.

Moreover, clans that have been practicing to reach a certain level of play will be reluctant to pick (notice pick, as in free choice) a new map from a mappool since they probably won't have much experience with it. Fixed maps per match like in the days of the Barryworld leagues (dno if they still do it in the Jolt leagues) would help stimulate clans to practice for new maps and will aid the acceptance of these maps.
