Does anyone know when and where the south african prelims for WCG 2006 is taking place?

no qualifiers for SA due to lack of funds. shit how are they expecting to grow the gaming community without proper funds and organisation. :((((

Anyone know why q3 / q4 doesnt have a place in WCG ?
Some ppl have told me that ID / Raven asked for money to allow q4 to be played , but i dont beleive it..

If you attended this event you would be blown away. The World Cyber Games Grand Finals is simply the greatest competitive gaming event on this planet, ask anyone who has attended one.
I urge you to go and see how an event should be run.

TosspoT , i've been coming 2nd in CS here in the national qualifiers for the last 4 yrs. Now due to work etc, I cant play CS anymore so I shifted to quake4 and came 2nd AGAIN in the National qualifiers for ESWC.

I know WCG is a great event, im not putting the event down in any way, but just wondering why quake3 / quake4 doesn't have a place in the game list.

That comment of mine wasn't meant as a rant against WCG, I know its an awesome experience, thats exactly what I've heard from the guys who've been there.

Thing is, here in India, we have WCG since 2000 , ESWC came in only this year, so other than CS there wasn't any other FPS that we could take part in, would really like more tournaments where we can play q4 as well.

StarCraft skyleague is a shitload bigger as WCG if im not mistaken.

I'm sure there are many Korean based SC events that are bigger, but they are one game in a country far far away.

At a guess, compare the number of CS players playing to the number of Q3+Q4 players.

Of course if you compared sales, Q2/3/4 sold around 4 million compared with 1.5 for DOW... My perception of Q3/4 is that it isn't exactly blistering right now in comparison with some Blizzard games.

I was referring to, Starcraft, Warcraft 3, or World of Warcraft. Obviously something like WoW is not directly comparable, but I believe it has around 6 million players now (i.e. not just games sold). I'd be surprised if on players, Q3/4 had 100000 combined.

Games like Need For Speed: Most Wanted don't really have a competitive community afaik, so your logic that competitive popularity got all those games on the list is, um, out the window.

I think this is a simple matter of id trying to compensate for earning a bad reputation amongst organizers (this is, of course, a hypothesis regarding why both the CPL and WCG ditched Q3 around the same time) and having a bit of trouble with that. I don't know, I guess that's just me. However, at least they got Q4 in the grand finals!

I didn't say anything about competitive communities per se, but about game sales/subscriptions. I certainly didn't imply anything about competitive popularity?

Furthermore, I would suggest a large proportion of CS players are not an active part of the competitive community, whereas Q3/4 players mostly are - purely due to the nature of the game and its acceptability to new-comers. Also, it could also be argued that CS's competitive popularity is partly a function of initial HL sales.

For tournament organisers, it will be always about advertising markets, and a well-sold game with a weak competitive community will always win out over a strong competitive community for a game that sold poorly. Where it has not followed this pattern, game tournament organisers have ultimately suffered.

Quake4 will be at the event - as a special tournament - top 8 players in the world will be there for the quake4 1v1 and 2v2 tournaments.

And btw, Need for Speed does have a competitive community =)

no, why ? if you mean the time change in the schedule the origional time was set not knowing any time schedule... so now i changed it to the actual time of the opening ceremony
