looks like fun. :) ET is the only game i play (AND like) besides CPMA, so looking forward to this one.

what i really like about this game is that it concentrates the combat into one area. that, and the fact that there's no sprint bar so you can sprint forever, keep the game pretty fast.

i've been playing a lot of battlefield 2 lately and noticed that it's super easy on some maps to capture a back spawn early on, thus making it a two front battle. i dont think that one player (who loaded quickly) should be able to change the course of a teamplay game so drastically, so it's good to see ET:QW, just like the original ET, isn't headed down that route.

This game looks great. Anyone know roughly what the system specs are to run this game. I hope my comp can handle this :-)

I've read that as well. Remains to be proved though =) but maybe with the render stuff they said in the presentation.

Thats nice to hear. I running a 3.2GHz dual core P4 (no HT), 2GB DDR :-( and a 256MB 6800GS AGP :-(. I pretty much only play q4 ctf and everything runs pretty good. And I usually try to join crowded servers. By the time this game is released I'll hopefully have DDR2 and a PCIE vid.

The only thing I'm really worried about is if I'm going to become addicted to ET:QW like I did with old ET. I'm more of a teamplay gamer (I hate dueling) and if you have objectives that require your team to complete thats even better. I think the main reason I stopped playing ET was because a lot of the servers I was playing on started adding a double jump feature. That ruined the teamplay because a lot of maps like Fuel Dump, the engineer could pretty much do it by himself.

I'll probably catch a lot of flak for this but quake4 runs extremely well for a game based on new technology, just compare it to any of the other recent releases and you'll see what I'm talking about.

You're right. I had read they said "Doom 3" but now I've found they've compared it to "Q4" too. But if I would have to take a bet I would say that the system requirements for "ETQW" would be equal to "Q4" and less than for "D3" .

They said at this quakecon that the specs should be roughly quake 4's, only a bit higher. I think it may even be in this video.

I hope there isn't too strong an emphasis on vehicles in this game. I can't dload the vid right now from my current location, but I'm hoping it's going to be more infantry oriented.

from what I saw in the vid, it doens't look like its going to be all vehicle.

the last objective on the map they showed was even inside a 'big' building, so u cant use vehicles for that part.

Im sure there will be some patching to really balance the maps as such "intense" maps as they speak of will either give the attacker team some problems against good aimers?

When their talking about their rock, paer, scissors system, i guess there will always be ways to counter different strategies. And i guess good aimers will always have the advantage, as they should have (if they have good strategies and a good sence of teamplay etc. taht is).
I think I've read that most of the testing will be done inhouse.
Since they will have a fulltime testing team, I guess there will be no public beta.

All gaming companies have testing teams (more or less). So I don't think this means there will be no open beta.
The trend with id-games have been releasing a public beta before retail.
Raven didn't make any public beta for Quake4 though, but we all know how smart that was...

Nowctf, we used to play in it with IQS, the map was utterly horrible but the pregame tv interviews and all that shit was really neat =)

Death jump i believe, it was a bitch to do 100 % of the time in those days. However it was possible even without a rocketjump or whatever.

Quite looking forward to this, after 10 years I'm finding the standard deathmatch formula a bit dull and it's about time I tried something new.

i would miss the good ol strafejumping if it aint in...sprinting just aint the same, you can noobify too far some times...

From what I remember from another interview strafe jumping is in and FAST - apparently you can outrun some of the vehicles.

huge maps, lots of spammy vehicles, even the covert class places radars in enemy territories like in bf2. The whole game seems aimed at toppling EA's huge monopoly with bf2.

n the video they talk all the time about 8 players in the map. Or 8v8 not sure. Once they talk about 24 players. Not sure either.

There isnt any maximum number according to Splash.

They've just always ran around in their game presentations... them not showing it doesn't mean it's not there - especially when we've had word from id (through SyncError) that yes, you can strafejump, and pretty fast if you switch to the lighter weapons :)

well at least the demonstrated running from the sniper class does not look like strafing.

Some person once told me that is is difficult to move straight and without jumping. Haven't tried it myself, just helping to spread the myth ;)

Well, to me Crysis (or whatever is it called now) looks worse than ETQW. At least on the latest screenshots: screenshot. Crytek's technology might be more advanced (and more hardware-hungry) but they can't beat Splash Damage's art designers.

Hopefully id and his partners are going back to their standards, this game could be the first step (and i underline could be because they have to make me forget their last two flops).
I don't care if it's ever gonna be competitive, I just hope that this game will bring back FUN!

It will be defenetly Fun, because it´s made by splash damage and NOT by ID. Splashdamage already did great work on the Multiplayer-part of RtCW and enemy territory, which i personally dislike (because it changed RtCW gameplay in the wrong direction and slowed it down) but still has alot of fans.
All I worry about is that the vehicles will slow gameplay down and will be too dominant compared to the single soldiers.

Did any of you who were at the event see the Q&A? I was just wondering if they were planning on having the voice messages like ET. Thats a feature I wouldn't mind having in any teamplay game, including Q4. It would be nice for people who don't like using voicechat. My favorite one is the axis "Oops" after he accidently calls an airstrike on his own team. It sounds so innocent :-)

Unless you call downsizing the game for 6v6 or 7v7 'competitively". I think its just a far cry from the original design.

This game will be fun, no doubt, but games for big teams like that are just hell to properly organize a team or a clan. I remember playing 7v7 on RTCW, we always had problems with rooster and peoples computer and match delays... I can barely wonder how would that work for, say, a 12v12 etqw match.

I know my team WILL play it, but maybe a community will appear that will create new maps for smaller matches, with no (or just a few) vehicles, etc.

SD said the game works very good in 6v6 and as you can see, the game is very intense in this 4v4 match that they're playing in the video.

the ET/RTCW games usually have a single front though, it works fine in ET with 6, 12 or 24 players. Doubt ETQW won't be fun in 6on6, but I think ETQWPro or something will have to make sure to limit vehicle amounts with low player count, if SD haven't done something by themselves already. A bit boring to have 3/6 players riding tanks.

QuakeWars is looking great so far, but one thing I have noticed is that they never show the Strogg team, what weapons do they have at their disposal?.

I presume it's all the usual quake weapons like Shotgun, Railgun, Rocket Launcher? if so ... won't there be some weapon balance issues if you get some skilled railgun players on the Strogg team and a rocket launcher is pretty powerful compared to the Marine's machineguns?!. I can see some mod team bringing out a marine vs marine or strogg vs strogg scenario too.

They do, look for videos on youtube, like E3 videos. Theres a lot of strogg action on them.

And yes, while most of the GDF's weapons are based on common weaponry, the strogg use quake-ish weapons like plasmagun, railgun, etc.

The railgun is used by the sniper class (infiltrator), and the gdf also has a sniper class. We dont know how will balance work yet, but judging from the fact that they decided to postpone the release just to tweak balance, I think it wont have any trouble. They will probably give a higher reload time for the railgun, bigger recoil, that kind of stuff... so people wont be able to dominate with a railgun simply because theyre sniping people from a distance and still moving perfectly.
