meh im a fan of tox over coller...but in finals past tox usually wins 1 rail map and cooller usually wins phrantic and another rail map....so its hard to say ...without the best of 3 id say this is map luck. But im glad tox won ....he is a very strong player.

quakecon desperately needs best of 3.

I don't entirely agree. Cooller made alot of non-Cooller-ish mistakes imo.

people use the term "rape" and "own" much too lightly... yes the frag difference was big, but they stopped playing for real at like 13:00.

Tocxic's probably the most complete player atm. He has the drive and the skills. I'm impressed.

yeah but I still think luck was on his side this time, not major luck he won fair and sqaure but there were a fair few occasions when the spawns were going in his favour!

Yarr, when you mention it though I get memories of watching games in the past where toxic always seemed to be so unbelievably unlucky with spawns throughout games against cooller, like always having to work for each frag and then every death is almost a guaranteed couple of points for cooller thanks to spawns so it's still all as fair as it can be imo. On the luck-o-meter throughout their careers I'd say cooller is still infinitely above toxic, but seeing as he's been, for a fact, also better tactically in the past it's nothing to complain about or blame. Just saying it shouldn't be done now either because that'd be really, really disrespectful.

nice tox, he has upped his tactical game, but imo, q4 lacks the tactical aspect a little, there isnt enough room for creative strats.

Will be interesting how the altered q4 1.3 physics will change the game.
I hope it will become less shaft and rail dominated. I so have the feeling that game flow is absolutely broken, when someone like toxic pulls out the rail in a defensive way.

The game was impressive, nonetheless and I would agree, that at the moment toxic is the most complete player. Very determined, as well...

you can downgrade from 1.3 to 1.2 if you use some tricks.

well, with the new q4max for 1.3 ( which is not yet released ) you will be able to watch 1.2 demos.

A q4max develper said at the q4max demo it's possible to watch 1.2 demos in the 1.3 version of q4max..

You guys wanna know why quakecon games are usually better than other tournaments? Because the one game means everything. So the players are at peak levels or they get dropped. It's much more important to be prepared for any map drawn or you're going home. So you really you can't have a weak map at qcon or it's byebye come again. Bo3 you can not be strong on a map and still win on your more practiced maps. This is why I love the bo1 for atleast one tournament a year.


Either come to quakecon prepared on ALL maps or be dominated.

Still more random.. As long as it's not in "serious" competitions it's ok i guess, more fun in some ways

yeah well it's meant for fun, as it is for everyone who attends has the chance to participate in it. But the pro's see the big loot prize and come :) then you get the whiners complaining its not enough games blah blah blah. Noone is forcing anyone to come :D

Uhm at Quakecon you could remove a map at the beginning of each match. So in that sense Cooller didn't have to practice Placebo Effect at all because he could simply choose to remove it before a match.

If the tournament had been following the usual BO3 pick-first ruleset, then Cooller might not be able to completely avoid Placebo Effect because his opponents could still pick it against him.

BO3 is less random and you get more maps (more entertainment) out of each match. I thought it was kinda anti-climatic that the final, which some had been waiting for for long late hours, ended in just 15 minutes. For me it wasn't more exciting at all.

In my opinion (as a spectator), there are zero advantages to BO1 (unless I'm hard pressed for time or something).

Um you still have to be practiced for all the maps. So I dont really see where you're getting at. He played toxic twice and lost twice. Dont watch quakecon if you dont like the format. I nver said it was good for every tournament. If it was so random than toxic would have lost a map or so. But we saw he was the best and didnt drop a single map the whole time. How can you say that's random? Everyone has the chance to win. Come strong on every map that can be picked or thrownout. You still have to win all your games, so I dont get how it's random. All the top players were in the top money positions. Bo3 gives more games but it also gives players more chances if they arent up to par on every map :\ but I like more games also. Just saying quakecon gives some of the most memorable games more than alot of other tournies :D

it's not so hard to understand when you consider there's a luck factor in every game such as spawns etc. or there could be anything that influences that one single game, like a naked man running in the tournament area or there could happen anything. what does that mean anyways? i can't imagine there actually gamers who don't take a game of bo3 serious. anyway there is no difference in the games, they were equally intense, and for that, especially for a spectator there's no reason to prefer bo1 to bo3. i simply can watch the gamers not only compete on one map and watch them how they do on another. there might be actually differences on other maps.
so for me there's no reason for any tournament in the year taking bo1.

and yeh, they could kick one map from the map pool so they wouldn't play the map they would've lost eventually and it comes to the tie breaker immediately. that's good for a fast tournament but i cannot understand why on earth a spectator is happy about less games to watch.

you can win qcon without even having seen one of the 3 maps, as you can just remove it in every match.
The reason for this is the small map pool though, and not bo1/bo3.

Use the Q4MAX's built-in demo tool. It'll list all the files you're missing.

I guess you installed 1.3 patch and tried to watch the demo with Q4MAX 0.76? If that's the case you have to copy zz-q4max-media-075.pk4 from Q4MAX 0.75 into 0.76 directory.
