If you love the Boomslang, I think you'll find the Diamondback nice as well. You might want to check out the improved Copperhead, though.

The diamondback and MX518 are both solid mice that use the same optical engine. However the logitech mice are built sturdier.

What mousepad are you using?

If the answer is cloth then I would consider looking at the G3/G5 especially if you are going to make this mouse last another 5-6 years. They both come with a max resolution of 2000dpi and will do 500hz polling out of the box. However they are a bit more expensive.

No. G5 is trash, even with the update it still skips at the slightest provocation. The firmware update did not fix it and the powercable comes unattatched easily.

50cm for 360. The MS 1.1 never had a problem with that.

Wow, yea, that's pretty rediculously low and I can see the G5/G3 skipping at those speeds at some points. However they can definitely handle sensitivities of at least up to 20-25cm without any issues whatsoever. I would even venture to say that they could handle 30-35cm, however since this is nowhere near my style I cannot say with too much certainty.

I think you got a bad G5 because it was extremely difficult for me to skip the G5 on my Allsop raindrop XL. I was litterally having to move it faster than I would think would be necessary for any useable sensitivity much less my 14cm/360. As for the cable it just sounds like you got a bad one, mine was solid.

Or you could just use a MS1.1 and if it breaks you can just buy another cause they are so cheap.

Here's the method of choice I'd suggest:

Do you like to have your grip chosen for you? (ergonomic or not)

If yes then if you play without accel get a microsoft intellimouse 3.0, if you play with accel then get one of the mx500 shaped logitechs (mx518, G5?)

If you answered no to that question then if you play with accel get a logitech G1 or G3. If you don't play with accel then get a microsoft wheel mouse optical 1.1A.

mouse accelerration makes a mouse move further when moving at faster speed in the same distance. now I have a logitech optical mouse, win xp sp1 (my win xp is cracked so I didnt upgrade it). I used CPL mouse fix (a search on google shows other people do it the same way as cpl mouse fix- fixing the registry) , logitech mouseware 9.79 at "no accel" "max-out speed 11/11" and "disable acceleration in games", but when i move my mouse from the left side of my screen to near right side at a higher speed, then move back at a slower speed, it stops before it reaches the left side, and the slower I move my mouse back, the less distance it moves back, so by definition I think the mouse accel is still on, but I did this mouse fix and reboot several times, I tried both in Starcraft and on desktop, the results are the same

from my fps days I have a MS wheel mouse optical and it doesnt show accel at all under the same settings, so why is that? the logitech mini optical's accel cant be disabled??

No idea, I like mouse accel hence why I use logitech since it allows me to set it in the drivers since games like CS don't have their own accel command like q3. If you don't want accel then I can garuntee the microsoft wheel mouse optical 1.1A doesn't have any assuming you put the cpl fix on and untick precision pointer enhancment or w/e it is called.

Many of logitech mice have been shown to have some 'negative accel' but since as I said previously it's a choice between using no accel in certain games with an MS or having some negative accel and some positive accel I'll go with the latter. I haven't noticed any negative accel on my G1 when I turn accel off and since with accel on it does what I expect of accel I have no qualms with the mouse.

the problem with my logitech mini optical mouse is: even when I fix the registry using cpl mouse fix, reboot, turn off accel in drivers; it still shows accel, but when I plug my MS wheel mouse optical in, it shows absolutely no accel, mini optical is by far the most popular mouse in pro SC and I cant imagine pros getting that kind of accuracy with accel on

Yeah the logitech drivers have had issues for the past few years. Their new mouse drivers are called setpoint though not mouseware, hence why I was suggesting you see if it was compatible with those. There's no real need to use drivers for good mice unless you want to set accel like I do in the logitech as far as I can tell. The MS mice also work fine without them.

I'd recommend mx518, it's a solid mouse without the bugs the newer mice have, when you get used to the shape. (I'd say hm... 2-4week time if you've used boomslang all your life : )

lol it was actually threads on esr with your endorsement of the mouse along with many others that made me get it, when my clanmate said he would buy it if i didnt like it that sealed the deal. If i must hold a gripe its the huge thumb button (im used to logitechs small thumb buttons) which i always mistakenly hit during battles, but a quick disabling of it and rebinding of weaps on keyboard fixed that...oh yeah and for the record i use it on a huge allsop pad.

There's no thumb button on the mouse I'm thinking of :) I think there are a few variations, but that would explain why it's a bit more than the usual $10.

I think they charge more for the black version so that could account for it.

Nah, more to say. Like mentioned earlier, it will take a week or two to get used to its shape, but once you do, you'll spit on conventially shaped mouses (diamondback w/e, neone?).

Its tracking is miles ahead of my mx3**, which is also optical. D00d, just get the mx518, you'll be amazed. The 40-50$ IS worth it.
