great place, don't get me wrong. But Sydney is a more central location for tournament and i'm thinking majority of players are from sydney.

cancelled? do they have any idea how much the initial announcement of this competition has boosted the aus q3 scene??? Servers around the country have all been converted to cpma/vq3 because of it (not to mention the new ones that have been created), and we are seeing more q3 activity than we have in the last year and a half. It doesn't matter what time of day it is now, be it weekend or otherwise, if you feel the urge to play some quake - players will be there, ready and waiting. And am I right to assume that this is the case around the rest of the world too?

But if the rumor that the Australian Nationals have been cancelled turns out to be true.. then I am officially retired. And I know a fair few other Australian players that feel the exact same way that I do.

It won't be to prove a point, I don't expect the retirement of few second-rate Australian players to change anything in anyway. But I thought that I should at least say something, somewhere. I want people to know that I've had a great time playing this game over the years, and I'd like to wish those of you whos country hasn't been excluded, good luck with it in the future.

PS. (you knew it was coming). It probably goes without saying, but seriously.. Fuck you cpl, you 'candy-giving-then-taking-away' mother fuckers, I can only hope that you choke on my big black balls and you die.

The CPL isn't to blame, the Australia National Final was to be run by a group of tits who couldn't organize a pissup in a brewery. It was never going to happen.

Whether or not the Australian organizers failed to put the tournament together, if they had CPL consent to announce the tourney then its both parties fault. Otherwise the CPL should have never authorized these guys to use the name "CPL Australia" without any guarantee or contract that forced to organize the tourney ( I think WCG works this way).

Anyway, major tournaments that "seem to be cancelled" are sad and destroy the gaming community in that country.

australia has been removed from the list on the cpl site... well at least this morning it had

I doubt they'll bother with an official announcement, the 2006 world season starts in a few days with the amateur league then two weeks later the national finals run till the 3rd of december with the grand final two weeks after that.

Ah that's no good, what is the AUS quake community ment to do now? Where is the nearest stop? ....China? (not checked all locations yet ;))

Python is apparently going to Singapore (which is probably the closest), but it's pretty ordinary for the guys travelling from a bit further in oz... there was a number of guys looking to come from Western Australia and also toxter and Robo-Kill were coming from NZ, would have been a pretty decent turn out and definately some good games (i.e. toxter vs pyth would be a pretty decent match up at any tourney to watch)

October 20th, 2006 - Perth, Western Australia - Ping Events, Inc. is proud to announce the Australia-wide Quake 3 Qualifier for the CPL Championship finals, taking place December 16-20, 2006 in Dallas, Texas.

A series of Australia-wide semi final tournaments will be coordinated by Ping Events, and hosted by major LAN gaming groups in each state of Australia. The finalist from each of these events will be flown to Perth, Western Australia, to participate in the Australian National Qualifier.

The Australian National Qualifier will be held on the weekend of November 25-26 at 4PlayGames, Australia's highest "spec" gaming cafe. The event will be hosted and coordinated by Redflag LAN fest, a nationally renowned LAN Gaming Organization with over five years experience in managing gaming tournaments and events.

The National Qualifier winner will be flown to Dallas, Texas to represent Australia in the CPL Championship Finals, a global event with participants from 51 countries. The Australian finalist will compete for a chance to win a share of the $50,000 prize purse.

"We are enthusiastic about our new partnership with Ping Events, which we hope will usher a new era of CPL tournaments in Australia. We look forward to welcoming the Australian finalist at our Championship Finals in December," said Angel Munoz, Founder and President of the Cyberathlete
Professional League.
