Its very easy to tell that you've only watched the demos from this game. :) To bad you missed it.

I watched the games live on TSN. Most of them were blowouts in favor of either fatal1ty or toxic and therefore not very exciting (you knew who was going to win after 5 minutes). The final, overall, was really exciting though, because fatal1ty was pulling maps from toxic and then toxic starting pulling maps and then it was close and then toxic won anyway etc. (I mean, it could have ended after 2 maps).

what about the first Phrantic match wiseguy?

ye, it was close, but very slow

we had a close game with overtime, a game with a very tactical +back aproach and some +forward rapes = this diversity is pretty good, rather than a bland 2:0 for Toxic :)

I hate how people seem to associate tactical and +back......

The first Phrantic wasn't tactical at all it was Fatal1ty running away from a non-warmed up Toxic.

toxic gets warmed up and destroys fat. i thought for sure fat would put up more of a fight on phrantic; still, i'm glad fatal1ty didn't win ;)

very good performance by fatal1ty but i would have hated to see another WT 05. Toxic deserved this more than anyone else.

im glad it was fat instead of socrates playing in the final. both are great guys but i think its good to see fat pushing himself when he knows he's not the dominant quake player he used to be. and socrates has had his chances with toxic.

no, toxic was knocked out by cooller at WSVG Dreamhack. He was also knocked out at ESWC.

I watched the game on the stream and thought it was boring?

And I mean this specific match. The cooller vs Fatal1ty, cooller vs Stermy, and socrates vs Stermy matches were all good to watch.

You cant judge the match if you only saw it on the stream because you missed like 1/3 of the match. And why a one? Just to balance the rating? Because im sure you dont think it was a 1.

Map1a. Phrantic was boring, an out of shape Toxic vs a running Fatal1ty
Map2b. Placebo was also boring, an out of shape toxic vs Fatal1ty whose aim was on fire but toxic was just stupid this map anyway.

Map1b. Monsoon Fatal1ty was no match for toxic
Map2b. Placebo this was the best one but Placebo is far too much railing at pixels to be interesting
Map3. Phrantic Toxic once again just outclassed Fatal1ty

That in my eyes isn't worth even a one.

You gave a 0 but you still think it was a real match with a real toxic out of shape. Even fatality played shit, he wasn't attacking when he had 200 200 and toxic low on hp. He just was waiting for toxic to rush him with the maching gun and 50 hp.
Now why did they play like this ? Maybe because that would make the final look like it's a great match with drama, suspens and all (and i recognise i've been fooled for the first bo3 too). It made the finals a lot longer too which isn't bad for the sponsors and spectators. Noone would have liked a remake of the rape fatality had vs toxic in the winners bracket.
You just have to admit it, the game was fake. I would rate it negative if i could.

I have no idea if it was or wasn't but if only it had been cooller in the final! He would have claimed he threw the first games anyway!

I think toxic was expecting it to be a bit easier but fat was in a posistion where it was best for him, not expected to win and in the spotlight, and he's an awesome defensive player.

Think once tox had calmed down though, he pretty much had it nailed. Nice games none the less, even if fatality is boring.

I thought Fat had solid tactics but just lacked the raw 'horsepower' of Toxic, in terms of aim/movement...
Not sure why though, don't think its an age thing personally. More of a technique thing, yet he seemed able to do it in PK. In his early Q3 career he was a top aimer etc afaik, I guess the rest of the world caught up. His trade off was always reliability instead of all-out ballbreaking skill, but you need a bit of both. He realised that for PK (he combined safety with aggression and speed at the end), but not for Q4?

Vo0 isn't as dedicated in practice as Fatal1ty is. Toxic is though, he plays as much as he has to to stay on top, I could imagine toxic increasing his practice a little after this close call.

I felt Fat could compete with Vo0 on all levels, even if Vo0 had more raw talent and slightly better movement.
With Toxic, Fat had no way at all to answer his fragging power

Not often I comment on demos but I felt that I had to say that phrantic and monsoon was one of the best performances i've ever seen in quake, very impressive. So smooth and fast movement plus that insane aim when playing under that kind of pressure.
Props to fatal1ty playing the whole match and acting very professional even when he is behind so much.
I don't like the 'new' kind of behavior when players stop playing when it 5 min left, (*cough* socrates) it hurts the scene and very destructive in the long run for the e-sport scen, imagine a football team giving up after 60 min and just standing doing nothing the rest of the match...

but when chances seem slim, i don't see a point in fighting a lost battle. and who defines what is professional (in pro gaming)?

for once, i like to see fat quit a minute early instead of a couple seconds left.

next worldcup, let's invite the teams that find themselves losing by 4 or 5 goals to just walk off the field.

starcraft is more like chess in that sense

it's called slippery slope, when you get into a losing position it just gets harder and harder to comeback whereas in quake it's always possible to get 6 spawn frags in 16 seconds

Out of Tox's 8 victories, this one was the most exciting and hard fought.

I totally understand why Jay said what he did. Toxic was getting manhandled in the first bo3... My guess is it had to mean something to tox what Jay did. It was like exactly what tox needed to hear him say or someth.

It's nice for 2GD to support him I just think he could have chosen his words a lot more carefully. It was more of an attack on Fatal1ty than a support of Toxic.
Part of the reason Toxic doesnt make grand celebrations with winning is because he thinks its rude to the other player - i think that gives an indication of his character.

Toxic runs around so fast on Monsoon that the game is barely functioning and seems it will fall apart at any moment :D

toxic is pure ownage on monsoon, damn nice movement and quite much use of rl :D
