i don't know how much people are realy gunning to winn these like their life depended on it, its for fun, and to provide some good games for the higher quality players. that being said future events will hold some prizes , perhaps it will be prestigious then, when ppl are realy wanting the new w/e's

Not to mention it keeps American players competitive, improving their skills in tourney games. I think it's a good thing. It also allows others to improve their skill.
