Nice frags, but most of them are basic stuff, I mean I've seen some of those in slightly different versions a lot of times before. The music is not so bad IMO :-)

let me remind you guys that we didn't exactly plan the frags, so i can't really satisfy your fetishes. yeah alot of the frags are on dm17, mostly due to the fact that we are playing in ffa's and not duels. we tend to take duels very seriously and don't try and take risks, (like rail instead of air rocket) but there are a alot of exceptions to that in the video. glad you liked the music BooTes ;)

well, im rather impressed with the video... i agree with all these guys about the music tho :\ its quite a unique style that would only appeal to a small amount of ppl. while its good that they didnt use mainstream pop music (eg: linkin park) i feel that slightly more 'common' music (or perhaps some underground that sounds common) would be more appropriate for this video.... not everybody like "in your face cheesy american rap"

if we can move past the music tho, the video is well edited and the frags are great! i dont know why ONLY firstperson was used and hardly any effects - perhaps this is to give it an authentic feel?!? personally more interesting shots would have made the air-rockets and other things more exciting...

anyways... on the whole this is a great movie! i may be wrong... but its proberbly the most proffesional q3 video out of south africa!!! possibly the best gaming video even!

lemme answer the things you have raised:

1) choice of music
2) lack of effects

1) i chose the first song coz i had heard it in a csi episode and got the idea on how to make the intro. (most ppl tell me that's their favourite part) the second song i chose so i could remain on the same genre of music and so that i could sync the frags very nicely.

2) as for the effects, effects take alot of time to put in, and ppl don't notice most of them, so basically you don't get enough positive feedback for the amount of time you put in (ppl have still not noticed how much effort was put in to syncing each frag to the music). another reason was that i wanted the frags to showcase themselves and that not spin a camera 360 degrees around the player everytime someone got a frag. i have over 16 gigs of quake movies on my hard drive and the videos that i like to watch the most are ones that have the small amounts of effects and lots of good frags (Q3 Fuel for instance, which i still watch daily even tho it has music from the movie Beetlejuice). Movies like Virtuosity which have incredible amounts of effects and editing tricks, i never watch, usually because because the frags are not up to par (which is true for Virtuosity) or usually the effects just piss me off. third person perspective for frag movies just sucks. it just doesn't showcase skill, flick rails look stupid, and other types of frags like air rockets look lame too because the amount of prediction + aim are not visible.

another point about the music i would like to make is that you cannot criticise the video just because u personally don't like that genre of music. Virtuosity for instance, (i tend to be saying that alot :P) uses my least favourite genre of music (trance/house) but the syncing/editing is done extremely well, and watching the movie still gets me amped to play quake even tho the frags suck, and music only sounds good after taking a handful of ecstacy pills. Nobody listens to Danny Elfman's OST for Spiderman but everybody loves the The Badge for instance.

first of all there weren't any effects in the intro, just editing tricks. anyway, if u want to call them effects then that's what they are. i think the point u are trying to make is that i said, or was making a point that i don't like effects so i don't put them in my videos. thats far from the truth. i personally love watching q3 videos with effects/editing tricks but like i said earlier, i felt it would be unnecessary.

secondly, Danny Elfman is the shit, read above what i wrote about Danny Elfman music in The Badge. But i must say the Beetlejuice theme song is a really poor choice for a frag movie imo. have you actually heard that song?

what you say about third person perspectives and camera angles aint true. sometimes even shit frags can be made to look half decent with camera angles. let me state an example. If you have watched Annihilation there is a pop2x frag by clx on a enemy with battlesuit that is shown twice. first with a third person perspective and second with normal first person view. that particular frag just looked so much better in an angle as it was synched perfectly to the beats in the song. its about how well the editor uses them. oh and there are a lot of people who look for good looking effects as well. :)

you have made a valid point there, AshR. but when you say "sometimes even shit frags can be made to look half decent with camera angles." that's exactly one of the reasons why i didn't use effects on the frags themselves. i just wanted to show the frags without a whole bunch of pointless effects so viewers can appreciate the skill needed to get them. tho i will agree, some external angles to complent the frags would have looked cool. but then again... "time put in, feedback got out".

Very nice frags but I didn't like the config (too dark) & the editing quality (pixeloze ;/). You could make the filesize twice as big (131 MB isn't that much, 262 MB isn't either) and the movie would look much much better.

The reason why i made the file size so small, is that most ppl in South Africa don't have broadband connections, and i wanted the size to be big enough for ppl on dial up to d/l in one night.

Then you should just make 2 versions: LQ and HQ... Think bout it for your next movie :).

k just finished watching the movie. some really good frags.. but there are other movies with more air rockets than this one considering the fact that this movie last only around 7 minutes. check the recently released bsx2 or others like round2 or lastmanstanding series if you want a whole lot of air rockets.

nice content but the lack of cool editing tricks, camera angles and poor quality brought down the experience for me a bit. 7/10 overall

I think this movie was great to watch, this is the first q3 movie I've enjoyed for a while. Lots of people are moaning about the music... it's not my kind of music at all in fact I don't much like rap at all coming from a heavy metal background but, to me it seemed to go very well with the frags and was a change from the usual same stuff I'm used to watching. There was some very sweet frags in there I had to watch more than once =] Overall a good job it entertained me :D The anarki bot thing, rofl made me laugh

The ONLY thing I can really bitch about is the visual quality, could of been a little sharper! but hey, it was a kick ass movie =]

glad you liked it so much FoxeH :) believe it or not, i don't even listen to hip hop, i primarily listen to punk rock, but that's besides the point. just wanted to break the mould in this vid a little bit. some ppl enjoyed the change in music, which was really cool. as for a sequel, i should be going to work on a UT2004 frag movie for q6`zero-1 shortly after we return from eswc qualifiers, and then a full 15 minute q3 frag highlights showcasing frags from the other 12 members in quadrant 6 (with a few surprises). ;)

perhaps u read earlier what i said about our clan taking games seriously, if not lemme refresh your memory. we take duels very seriously, but dueling on ztn/dm6/t4 gets extremely boring so we do things from time to time, to just have fun in the game :) this is why the majority of the frags are from such games, we take risks coz we can, and are just having fun. but sometimes we pull off really crazy shit in duels, and those are in the video too ;) thanks for your honest opinion.

I'm keeping this one, if not for the air rockets, then for the air nades, and definitely for the air gauntlets. Heck, I'll keep it for the guy who gets cut in the head at 1:43. Noooo problems with the music, it's actually nice to hear something different, and the frags were synched pretty decently with the beats. The only thing is the not-very-high movie quality, and the stuff at the end.

good movie manic , lotz o ppl say the music is drab or the itz not high quality or that they seen better air rockets or it was to short , etc etc etc etc. I think i'll say the fact that it is a enjoyable watch , i do recommend downloading it because it does show the fact that risks do sometimes pay off , and when they do , they look great. I'm glad u didn;t switch out of First person mode , i think 3rd person is , well just not for quake , even in movies , i might sound silly , but it ruins the hole i watch movies to get pumped to play aspect. I think you did a great job and the frags were very nice , and i think some of the best frags were on dm17 , can anyone say double nades :O GJ and i hope u stick with it cuz im ready 4 ur next 1. :D , o yah , i met u once playing .16 , maybe we meet again and maybe u can demo me 4 u next vid :P
