watching these old demos is an amusing past time, because the skill level seems so amateur in reflection; this is particularly true for games in the range of ~2004 or older, but I think this game somewhat qualifies as well, because hub3aeroq3, as a map, hadn't fully been mastered at the time.
you may disagree, under the premise of the map's existence in multiple prior forms (CPM, QuakeWorld, wherever), and the obvious rebuttal is: 'sure, but vanilla Quake 3 is a different kettle of fish.'
what I say, though, is that it isn't all that different, but, instead, that czm simply pioneered the map, much in the same fashion that fatal1ty taught us how to play q3dm6 or q3tourney2, or how ZeRo4 revealed the secrets of pro-q3tourney4.
it is interesting how it comes to be that one guy (or his team), so many times, is the source of all future knowledge in a particular skill.
the ice climbers paved the way for team deathmatch play on pro-q3dm6, and clan Kapitol illustrated what could be done on q3dm7.
is it just that these particular souls were the lucky few, happening to be in the direct path of the wand of enlightenment? for what reason, exactly, does someone, out of nowhere, achieve unprecedented ability, greater than any rival of the time, like the sudden existence of the universe.
where does this come from? is it innate to us? is it a property of genetic code?
what was so special about Bobby Fischer, and what is so different about Gary Kasparov?
I don't know.
