Just cause a map isnt chock full of health does not mean it is retarded. Why not place two megas on opposite sides of the map? Woo...
E.g.: Aerowalk in QW is full of health so basically you run and shoot and get away and in 1 second restock back up on health. Makes controlling a map a lot less rewarding and makes it more like a glorified aim practice map.

what trouble? I download the .rar, doubleclick to open it, doubleclick again to open any .rar in that .rar, and doubleclick again to play the demo... I can think of trickier things that got to do with computers really.. maybe get Seismovision + WinRAR :)
I try as hard as i care to, to try seeing what most people see in promode, but I just dont get it.
quake 3 is a good game, but if it had come as promode out of the box I doubt i would have ever played anything but the demo...once.
only one word comes to mind when I see promode demos...even when its someone like vo0 playing..."noob-mode". I dont mean that as an insult to the ravenous fans of promode, but being able to turn instantly without having to slow down...instant weapon switching that allows u to almost fire 3 weapons at the same time ...being able to jump up walls...turn mid-air...it just seems like an easy way out for people that dont want to learn how to do it the right way.
Yeah too bad slowmode bullshit like q2 and even more so vq3 came later than the real quake, quake 1. CPM is back to the roots whereas q2 & vq3 are retarded inbred space cs.
I have to admit i'm jumping on a bandwagon as i play more CPM than VQ3 but i think the cpm movement is far more challenging than the normal movement. I would say as a game its more difficult people can move quick enough that they come from any direction rather than in VQ3 where you always have a reasonable idea where they are.
I think the way you're approaching the idea of CPM to begin with is the problem.
It's NOT that you have all these mechanics (fast movement, fast aim, and fast tactics) that help only you. They apply to EVERYONE. So, that instant-switch/air-control/wall-jumping "noob-mode" becomes a difficult mode to be good at.
VQ3 is far more relaxed (unless you play at the high end of compeition). CPM is ALWAYS intense.
