it doesn't since thats first part of the word, "avec" ending implies is a person with that type of a diguisting (to you) personality. The word is is interchangeable with "bastard" both ways, but not with "sicko" since that implies something other then just immoral behavior.

no, "sicko" is not "grosso", because "grosso" doesn't exist. Sicko isn't a word either. It doesn't matter if *you* think sick = merzko. The literal meaning of sick is "broken" at the very least, nothing close to a descriptive meaning of "disgusting" or "revolting". When you say someone is a sicko in English, you always imply that something is wrong with that person mentally. Thus, he has "sick" thoughts, he's weird, a freak. "Merzko" means revolting and other great English words you have in your example that deal with morality, not "sick". Sick doesn't show up anywhere up there. What a surprise.
Even though "You're such a sicko." can be (wrongly) translated into "Kakoi ti merzavec" (correct is "[b]bolnoi[b] merzavec") depending on the context, no way can this be done backwards because it would be attaching additional meaning to something rather general. This is all plain and simple. And obvious.

theres no significant difference between gross/discusting/sick. unless you do not have as good a grasp of the english language as I do of the russian.

sick/ill could mean "diseased", or it could mean "immoral, etc" which is the only meaning applicable to "sicko".

your entire post shows that you dont understand that morality is a mental attribute, and therefore "sicko" is perfectly applicable. so, my advice to you: please learn the language before you try to correct others who know more than you.

you might have a point here, but what yeltsin tries to make you understand is that the word "merzavets" has no "sick, perverted or mentally deranged person" connotations WHATSOEVER, weheras "sicko" in fact has. A "Merzavets" is not someone who goes wild just for the fun of it as a sicko may do - the word actually implies a calculating person. A "Merzavets" can not be driven by his craziness or obsessions, quite on the contrary, it's a person who unscrupulously uses people to attain his goal. Besides I don't see any clear connotation of violence in the word, whereas it's quite present in "sicko". Moreover, since the word is becoming a bit obsolete, it has a tendency to be used jokingly, which i believe is the case with nobap's use of it here. And the meaning of the joke is very different from the meaning of any ironic use of "sicko".

Let's explain this to you one more time for entertainment purposes, maybe you'll get it on a 22nd attempt.
Example 1:
A = {1,2,3} and B={1,2,3}
A = B
A != 2 and B != 3.
When translating something, text in one language is supposed to have the same meaning (=) as text in another language.
Example 2:
Let us consider the following sentence:
"You're a fucking retard."
Now, we pretty much know by now that '!phil' is a subset of a set 'fucking retard'.
So lets say somebody decides to translate our sentence into another language, and they embarrassingly pull 'You're a !phil.' out of their stupid ass. Why did they do it? Why specifically single out !phil instead of the linguistic equivalent of 'fucking retard'? Why not dird then, way2ez, or anybody else? No reason. Since the set includes all of these subsets, the it would be a total fuck-up of a translation.

Theres no possible way for text in one language to have the same meaning (=) as the text in another language, exactly because they are different languages. Thats why your mathematical analogy fails.

The proper example using sets would be based on the actual translations:

A = {"merzavets", "bunny", "rainbow", "scum", "sicko", "bastard", "redivider", ... etc (all words)}

B all possible translations of "merzavets" = {"scum", "sicko", "bastard", "asshole", "fucker", ... etc}

B is the union of nonempty C and D such that:

C translations of "merzavets" that are not literal = {"bastard", "asshole", "fucker", ... etc}

this guy isnt some random, he's been in the shadows like how av3k was cuz of his age. He's a bit older than av3k now I believe. He was playing tough with the major russians back in 02 when he was about 13 so it's just sad he had to wait all this time to get into any tournies.

He's the same age as cooller afaik. He stopped playing so much to concentrate on other things and is now playing at Russian LANs again "Just for fun".

he wasnt in the shadows because of his age. if i remember correctly it was his parents that prevented him from playing q3. they wanted him to focus on school.
