tbh i think it is quite hard to get why it is said to be so great just from watching ... but once you played qw in a team and did understand all that little things that make it (imo) the most advanced _team_ deathmatch game around you'll prolly also say its great :-)

i know how tactical the game is, and how much team play it needs, but i still dont like the unablanced weapons in tdm that every qw player so loves :P

exactly that unbalance makes the game so tactical -> no teamplay -> no RL -> no control -> rape :-)

With unbalanced weapons it actually makes sense to go for a weapon in the higher tier. It creates key areas in a map and adds another aspect to the whole game - you need to cooperate to take down the enemy which got the only RL in the game.

The other weapons are far from useless though. SNG is very lethal on E1M2 and both Super nailgun and the regular nailgun can be used to slow down an attacking player, which is especially useful when they bunnyjump as they will lose momentum and just fall down, making them an easy prey. SSG also deals alot of damage if you can get up close, preferable along with a teammate when you attack an enemy with RL. The lower tier weapons can be really lethal along with a quad too. SSG along with a quad is almost an instagib weapon, but that requires that you get up close to the enemy, which can be quite hard sometimes.

As i said, the tiered weapon system requires teamwork from the team that is down. Having powerful weapons makes it possible to control a map with only one or two fully equipped players too - which imo is like it should be. It just adds that little extra dimension. :)

qw tdm is a great game, maybe the best tdm game there is, but cmon its not perfect, but some of you qw'rs seem to act like it is, its never going to be to everyones tastes, and not always because they are nwbs :)

i agree the unbalanced weapons thing does make teamplay really important, i have to contradict this guy and say it makes tdm very interesting but on the other hand qw duel with instagib lg and rl looks rather one dimensional

no one disagrees with you. QW duel can be fun but it has a lot of problems sure.

Reminds me very much of Q2 and I totally understand the thinking. I also dont like that EVERY SINGLE WEAPON IS LETHAL. Thats for noobs :)

i had to watch some demos with a commentator to understand it, once they explain what is happening it does seem the best form of tdm

and if not the best, definitely the most chaotic :)

Make sure you get one with Gaz and/or Hangtime as commentators as they have english as their mother tongue. I'm not sure about the quality of the recordings though so don't have too high expectations on that :)

i had the same problem.
try setting sys_highpriority to 0, fixed it for me. it was apparently eating too much from my megahurlz away for winamp to run the audio smooth :)

No i mean, even with ezquake closed and just winamp it still goes quiet for a second or so every 5-10 seconds.

i have just downloaded ezquake and tried to watch the replays but i always get error messages e.g. dm2 not found bla bla i tried to find the maps but i cant open the pak0.pak even with pakscape... on em1 quake tells me that progs/v_spike.mdl is missing. i tried a lot but maybe im just stupid and someone could heeeelp me.

http://fquake.sf.net - fQuake is a package with everything you need to play Quakeworld. ezQuake is just a Quakeworld client, which is included in the fQuake package. The fQuake package is based on the shareware version though so you will need to get pak1.pak from your original Quake CD to get the rest of the episode maps (only episode 1 included in shareware) and DM maps. It is possible to download the pak maps from some servers too.
