I used to work in one of those laser quest things, where you strap the packs on and run around shooting each other.

My friend and I were always looking at stuff from a different angle back then, looking to see what would make a really cool laser quest arena. My school at the time when I was 16 had some really cool features when looked at from that perspective.

Why? it's fucking awesome, that's why. We had plans to do that in highschool, after hearing about other people doing it - hell, i thought it was kinda usual by now, as this was 5 years ago or something.

I built my school cafeteria and half my house for CS. Most aspiring level designers have at one time built their school/workplace/home or attempted to do so :D

go make some NTF maps instead :)
(don't mind whether they look like your house or not, just have to be playable)

I invented that word.

Its a player who wins on the basis of simply having played a map or a game, or a particular character significantly more than the other person and consequently wins based on time played and nothing else.

however their skill does not transfer into realtime play.

In other word, if a new map is released, then the player who has been "timefragged" will start to win or the scores will be significantly closer because the opponent does not have a time advantage.

Its more than just expereince, because real expereince is transferable. Time fragging is a lot more linear.

Timefraggers are not really that good, their success is derived from simply repetive play till they can't fail to win.

They know evey sniping angle, they have every route down so they can move faster. Their success is due to time, not natural talent.

After that it just means you suck.

So just go for really random openings and see where it leads you.
