Not really. If a game sucks (like Q4 did) there will be no community (if you consider 17- a community then its ok).

I refuse to believe that UT3 will ever be "that" bad as in having such a small community. UT has always had a very large following, and it's most unlikely that we'll get a small community for UT3 (Epic just can't fuck up a game like that :P)

quake also had a great history of big communitys, this just shows how much game designers can ruin a game :d not saying that it'll happen to UT3, but it might aswell do! you do remember the hype and expectations for quake4 before it was released ye?

If you look at how epic presents the game and how raven/id presented their game.

I remember a major q4 presentation, it focused entirely upon that the single player had this great history and how you become one of strogg etc, they showcased graphics, but not really any nice multiplayer.

Look at what epic is promoting, ofc they're hyping their unreal engine 3, just as raven hyped d3 engine. But they've shown multiplayer, and let journalists try the game in multiplayer, they've talked about builing up DM first to get things right, down to the core of everything, and then building all the other things upon that, so they have a game which satisfies the hardcore dm players.

I know it's just marketing and hype etc, but there's a clear difference from what raven/id promoted in q4 and what epic promotes in ut3.

It can sound rude, but when you talk about "competitive 1v1 platforms", CPMA is the best without a possible discussion. Its not about tastes there, this is a fact. If you don't agree, you are simply not getting the point of it. Also, if you live happy thinking UT is the rulez, do it.

i personally just prefer ut to quake, even watching ... just my personal preference ... yet i dont slam ppl for liking quake. maybe i just realise that everyone has their own likes/dislikes. neither do i ram my opinions down ppls throats, which some quake players seem to love doing and tbh it gets a bit boring
