Did you find out what happened and which tournament it was though?

Yeah, also just for history's sake: Sectopod's megaleath rocket-jump and subsequent bunnyhop on dm4 vs. you (TGI, 1999) is considered to be the first display of bunnyhopping to a wider audience and when pretty much everybody went 'whoa this new technique is cool'.
