It's funny to see all these people complaining about CGS, while it's probably the best thing that has happened to professional gaming so far. Quit being a jealous crybaby and grow up.

Warsow has no business in a global professional gaming league. Its target audience is way too limited for that.

And if millions of people decide to watch 0 intelligent stuff, tough luck. That's how a market economy works. You may not like it, but you can always switch channels to Discovery or National Geographic.

They're just butthurt because their game wasn't picked. I don't think they understand that if CGS were to satisfy every gamer the league would have about 25+ games, which is obviously not feasible and as such some games cannot be included.

After the previous years failures, (cxg, CPL cancelling world tour stops, and more recently WSVG shutting down etc) makes people sceptical. And its no wonder I think. I would probably be happier about CGS if I had not gotten so dissapointed about stuff like that in the past. It's hard to get excited about something, when you know there is a big chance that the guy with the cash simply says stop and thats it.
It just seems that if established esport organizers, such as the CPL has trouble getting esports rolling, its gonna be harder for the newer ones.
If the CGS indeed mean business, I wish them all the best, and will hope for a Quake or UT game to get picked in the future.

It may sound like he knows what is doing, but this is all stuff we have heard before. At this point, I believe that the only way a league is going to be successful is to bring it up from the grass roots level. Create the format and continually add features and viewing options as you grow.

This notion of TV viewers and mass media is a pipe dream at this point. There is not enough depth to the content. There is going to have to be something that comes up from a community effort.

To illustrate my point, Fantasy Football was not an NFL concoction. It was a natural evolution that started with NFL player cards. How many times have you sat around in a bar and argued about this guys stats compared to that guys stats? That all came from the information being available. Fantasy football evolved from that into the giant mainstream phenomena that it now.

Until the depth and variety of content exists that creates a critical mass necessary for something to gain momentum on its own, these guys are all dreaming.

At this point, I believe that the only way a league is going to be successful is to bring it up from the grass roots level. Create the format and continually add features and viewing options as you grow.

Yeh well.. I think the support that CGS teams are getting from the league, with all the salaries, player village, and media attention is really good, especially for the American teams.
Almost everyone that frequents this site would love to see Q3 or UT on CGS, heh.. even that Painkiller thing just to keep the DM scene alive for a while.

The concept sounds interesting and at least the investment they are making on the league is backed up by financially stable companies which can push the league to a higher level. With Fatal1ty, Redeye, DjWheat, and now Sujoy participating in the league I am pretty sure they will make their best to recommend or try to influence the game selection for next year. With a little bit of money involved from any of the publishers and some pressure from the gaming community I think it's just a matter of time for a DM game to appear on the CGS.

Well, the arguments he presented for having DOA and FIFA in are valid. However, since they want to go global and considering how popular RTSes are in Asia, I see no reason why they didnt include W3 or SC. Strategy games might be little harder to understand but if you put the effort in and educate your audience, you can turn them into one of the most devoted fan groups.

an assload of the usual business hype to cover up the reality: CGS isn't well-known--has anyone read about it in the news?--doesn't use the "right" or popular games, and more or less still presents its players as lucky geeks.

If drastic game changes--CSP, deathmatch, SC2--I think we'll all have more respect for the league, although it'd totally destroy the current age-old stalwarts of ESWC, WCG and CPL.

saw an advertisement for CGS at the pub yesterday (sky sports i guess) and my mate who knows nothing about gaming knew what it was. he said he wanted to see it too, quite a good sign for mainstream pro-gaming.
