Midway and Epic have announced the minimum and recommended system requirements for the PC version of

Unreal Tournament 3, the highly anticipated first-person shooter scheduled for release in November 2007. Please see below for all information regarding these requirements along with newly released screenshots from the PC version of Unreal Tournament 3.

2.0+ GHZ Single Core Processor

I highly doubt you really need dual core for reccomended...I played Time Shift Demo last night and it too reccomended dual core but I ran it with everything maxed on my AMD 64 Fx-57 and ran like a dream. Besides I'm waiting on the new AM3 Mobos next year or I kust might wait for the Quad Cores to drop in price. They only say reccomened so that Intel And AMD can make more sales.

The point I was trying to make, is if you haven't enjoyed game play from previous UT's, then UT3 probably wont appeal.

Doesn't mean its crap, its just a different form of game play.

Persoanly, I'm just gonna wait, for the game to be released, try it, and if I enjoy it more than Q3, then I'll play it.
If not (the most likly), I'll stick to Q3.

I don't want to be an asshole or anything, but my personal experience after having enjoyed a previous game for years, is that it is very difficult to enjoy a similar game afterwards. Especially if you consciously compare it to "the original", that's a lost cause imo. =P

It takes a lot of time to build up the addiction or attraction to a game.. and if that time is spent compared to something that already has that advantage, it's close to hopeless. Any game has to be enjoyed on its own merits with no expectations.

Agreed. And I'd add, you have better chances to enjoy a game with very different rules than a similar one. I wasn't able to recover the enjoyment I had with Q2 at Q3 at any point, and it wasn't until I played ET that I could feel at home again, cause there weren't common points to compare them so I wasn't missing stuff all the time.

This is a good point. There's something about the similarity that makes it more difficult, especially sequels, that are consciously made to be "improvements" of the previous games..

I tried UT2 after playing UT for years, it didn't "stick" at all, so the last years I turned to RTSing (!). Meaning I should be about ready for another FPS now ^^

Maybe the reason UT or UT3 won't appeal to him or you, is because you have your minds stuck "in love with" another, similar game. (I had the same problem with enjoying Q3, coming from an UT point of view)

I actualy like the gameplay of the UT series.

Minimum specs will always be a bullshit story.

I think if you wanna play everything like they show in the screenshots / videos you probably need a Quadcore and SLI GF 8800GTX with 2 GB high speed ram and some SB XFI and Agea physics card.

Overall i think this game will be pretty solid though :)

very scaleable. In terms of tweakability, there's not much to gain by haxing the config, atleast in ut2k4 it's minimal what you gain, all the settings that make an impact are in the menus.

with 1GB of RAM and ATI x1300 you can barely run Quake4 at solid 90 fps. also note that 2.4+ GHZ Dual Core Processor means nothing. Core 2 Duo at that frequency is much faster than an Athlon X2.

my second PC is almost the same: P4 3000, FX5900 512RAM so I know what it's able to do. in 640*480 everything low you can't run Q4 at SOLID 90fps... but well, it's playable, definitely.

had the oppertunity to try the beta at digital life this past weekend... for the most part, the base movement seems very quick for running speed in most games, even faster than quake. the dodging isn't as floaty as ut2k4, and somewhat feels like you have weight unlike ut2k4 where you're on the moon.

the weapons are very quake-ish... rockets seem faster, the link feels like a shaft, and the overall feel of the weapons is pretty solid. the only downside is that they're very powerful, so forget about a tiered weapon system.

other then that, with high details the game looks amazing visually, so itll put some good use to those with high-end systems.

I am kinda happy with what I see here, I don't like the doublejump and walljump, but shit happens. As long as it is fast and furious, it's good. The weapons sound excellent.

Wrong it ran at shitty FPS because the map was made by Ageia to pimp a failed product and it had this horribly demanding tornado blowing shit around and destroying both structures in the environment and the framerate...

The normal game is running really well. Epic said they saw the framerate go over 300fps at one point with an overkill 8800GTX and C2D system. I don't think anyone with a decent computer from the last two years should have any trouble getting the game to run at any reasonably high level of FPS they think they need.

The UT engine has unfortunately never been very tweakable. In UT-1 there were quite some config settings improving the visibilty et cetera. But there were hardly any with effect on the FPS. Also in UT2k4 there was not much more to do than just deacreasing the standard settings. And even if you had a decent system it wouldnt even increase the FPS that much to use a lower spec.

UT1 had a ton of "must fix" tweaks. I'll agree they didn't scale as well as Q3s options, but it got you a long way. Anyway, this is a completely new engine, so it's very hard to say.

I wouldn't be surprised in the least if it runs well on the listed requirements.
Bioshock is built on this engine, and it runs surprisingly smooth on a non-Dx10 system (as in, mine.)

well i got a amd 64 X2 6000+
2 GB DDR2 800 mhz
7800GTX and im playing stranglehold and bioshock, which are running also on the respective ut3 engine. its not running bad but not that i can say i got 60+ fps. so i dont think this is gonna be smooth for me, even tho crysis runs alot better than these games

bioshock runs at a steady 40-50fps on a slightly overclocked X1950pro in 1280x960 with everything dx9 maxed out. There are ocasional dips to around 35fps and in some areas it goes up to 60+fps, but 90% of the time it's between 40 and 50 fps. It does seem to be a very shader heavy engine though.

This *MUST* be wrong. The 7800 is an high-end monster (24 pixel and 8 vertex pipes, 430 MHz core), the x1300 is an entry-level card with just 4 pixel and 2 vertex pipes at 450 MHz. The 7800 should be like, at lest, 5 times faster.

Highest.

But I wont be playing on those settings for more than a few weeks after I get the game. Even sooner when I start deciding parts of the eye candy are annoying, hurting visibility or FPS killers.
