Of course he is a really good player, but he shouldn't have won vs Pod1 on cpm3a (what happened in that game?) and he has 0 chance vs Jonathan.

Embarassing performance for a winners bracket final, you just shouldn't get ripped to shreds like that in that stage of a tournament.

i don't see why not? the only experienced cpm duellers, the Poles+toxter, are out of shape so Vo0 got to play light in the end and trash him, being a very good player himself

That's harsh, man. Light earned his victories fair and square, and they cannot be attributed to freak occurrences or luck. He played really well in the previous matches, and was beat by a player who's not only a class better, but who's also in awesome shape.

If Light didn't had any skill in him, he wouldn't be able to beat the players he beat, even if they were not playing on their usual level.

No skill? I wrote that he is a VERY GOOD player, no doubt about that.

But watching the demo against Pod1 i got the impression that pod1 will beat light 14 of 15 times on that map as he, to me, clearly seems to be the better player.

The performance in the winners bracket final backs this up very well, doesn't it? There is no way Pod1 and certainly Jonathan would get trashed like that by voo.
That is why I wrote that Light isn't a legitimate wb finalist, as his true, constant level doesn't match that. Do you disagree?

It is what often happens to someone who overachieves into a final but then is exposed on the big stage; to use a tennis analogy I'd give you Schuettler, Clement, Verkerk - it is the very same phenomenon.

Seriously, that question is just as legitimate as the statement that Light isn't the 2nd best player in this tournament.

I meant, top tier skill, not skill at all. There are many better players than Light in this tournament, but most of them seem rusty, and all he's doing is taking advantage of it, while playing his best (i think that's his best? i have to admit i haven't seen Light play before this tourney).

And he's as legitimate a wb finalist as any other good player he beat along the way would be, if they bested him. This is, after all, tournament peformance we're talking about, not comparing players on their maximum talent/capabilites?

Embarassing is defending a score after you have already lost. I didnt do that, i tried my best risking everything to take back control, it didnt work and it got messy. Other players might have played super defensively camping every possible place moving backwards and railing or standing in the mh room on 3a, but i chose not to, with the risk of getting such comments as yours.

And yes, i am very sorry that i cannot play my A-game when i get easily nervous. And i am sad to see such comments that i don't deserve to be where i am, i beat all my former opponents fair and square in good games, and i did some clever stuff against Pod1 to put him off his game and beat him on smart play.

You shouldn't listen too much to those saying that you don't deserve your spot, since you - as you say - beat every opponent before facing Vo0. If you didn't have the skill to reach the WB Final you wouldn't be there, so just keep improving your game and work on those nerves ;)

your nervousness really whowed at some points, but I thought you played really well. I mean no offense but vo0 is just another calibre and at the very least it didn't seem as if you choked at any time.

I get nervous in every duel. I can't play 2 in a row, 'cause i'm all jittery by the second one. Dunno why, it's not like it's important.
I'm an old man, we brag about our women and our salaries, not our quake skills..

IMHo any of the good players is competetive (at least at their bes), and not counting any one of them is stupid. I think we've all seen what they can do.

Always enjoyed vo0's movement though so should be good if he is still blitzing about like old days.

Wish I could of seen the demos, I didn't see light playing much cpm just before I quit so I don't know how much he actually played up to this tournament, but when he was around his aim was by far amazing and his tactics were pretty spot on. But it sounds sad to hear that he got raped (if it's true) - Looks like vo0 has dominated cpm just like PK, well played :-)

I dont understand some of these comments that seem to indicate that Vo0 is newly doing well in CPM. Afaik he has always been a top euro cpm player, only really Rat springs to mind as a better cpm player?

It's hard to tell when back in the day you had about two maps being played for five years.

That is a gross oversimplification.

As far as their official matches go: Rat has a higher win percentage vs everybody else (I think).

It's hard to say, when Vo0 played Rat in the first Berserk cup he beat him in the first place and lost the final to him after that (double elim).

Important is to point out that Vo0 had much less CPM experience than rat at that time, plus I think Vo0 has way better control over his nerves now.

Who would do better now? Impossible to say untill you see them clash in a tournament.

It's 2-2. I played him in Challenges3 and beat him 2-1 (classic promode), and I played him in Berserk (first ever promode2 (arQmode at that time) tournament), and beat him 2-0 in the WB final. In the grand final, I lost twice with 0-2.
Then we played somewhere during september-november of 2004 in a league match, where I took cpm3, and he took cpm24. So it's 2-2 between us.
I'd like to think I evolved greatly as a player since then, the few months I played cpma on and off until now.

speaking of rat.. i downloaded few demos and to me it seemed his movement and aiming was quite shaky and not that fluid/precise like for example vamp or voo which i didn't expect, so was it really mainly his thinking what made him so good? ( i see gelleh already mentioned it) i thought cpm favors aimers/'fast movers' more heavily ;)
(i'm practically ut player tho i i'm playing quake for fun a lot and watching most quake tourneys lately also including cpm so i prolly missed that era ;)

yes he could out think most of his contemporaries and also he had RL skills beyond any other player I have seen in both major forms of q3 , vq3 and cpm. He was truely old school.

Difference is only in mouse control style. There are some genuinely amazing aimers out there that have shaky/unsteady mouse control.

But generally, I think that the 1) smoother the mouse control is the better the LG and movement, 2) the 'tighter' the mouse control, the better the rail/rockets/shotgun and movement. This is displayed by mouse control of players like Vamp1re and Vo0.

But in between there lies room for shaky mouse control to get really great rocket/rail aim but it hinders LG/movement performance. Just my opinion, though.

Movement isn't the end all and be all of CPM, anyhow. Consistency and precision far outweighs overall speed in CPM (unless it's cpmctf2, ofc).

well if toxter is anything to go by you can have god awful movement and still be a solid player

I think this is the perception just because for players who are new to CPM and have decent aim already the speed is the most visible thing causing them to lose, when it's much more about years of map experience, control and so on. You need a basic level of movement to be able to compete at all and beyond that more speed is an advantage but it's not the fastest guy who inevitably wins.

Well i have never been a Vo0 fan thats for sure man, but i still recognise his cpm skills.

Ah well, each to their own, watched the demo and his movement is still <3 so i am happy. Gonna have a shot at playing cpm myself again if can find some decent servers.

I think the fact that some great players joined the tournie late probably caused the WB final to be so skewed up.

Seeding as probably good before late-comers. But like it was said before, this was a pretty sad final. Jon4than put up a much better fight in the semi-finals.

Yeah, Tosspot is grate. I just wish it didn't take so much fucking around to sync the shoutcast with the game. :-E

As far as the "best of europe" argument goes... even if rat returned I would still say sander would overtake him.

sander is very consistent in his frantic style of play, and its a very deadly combination when a player can play this style 100% all of the time.

rat was more consistent on a level of discipline and maturity in the game, which comes with experience. by that i mean he learned and evolved over time that certain risks are far too great for their rewards.

many of the old top cpm players are like this, whereas the newer players play a lot like voo (just nowhere near as consistent).

Ye great theory only both rat and Vo0 returned in 2006 after being away for a long time, to compete in the Masters Cup. And you know who won that.

That tournament is by no means a proper "measuring stick" of either player (especially Vo0) being at the height of their powers.

voo is in far better shape in this tourney than cmc, just watch the demos from the last few games its pretty obvious

had to watch because I was betting on Vo0

really nice demos not very close but voo's display of skills here is pretty amazing

light's had a fantastic tourney and still did pretty well in this match all things considered and I'm sure he has the ability to give voo a better match if they meat again in the grand final

but voo's looking good to take this title unless one of the big poles seriously raises their game in their loser bracket matches

jon on a good day without polish connection(c) could match him imo..otherwise i don't see much chances ;)
