Krysa played well.. Krysa is a very good dueler, and hes a very well known european dueler.. Don't see anything wrong with saying he's one of the best European duelers.

well, i far as i have seen,noctis plays dm6 really well (who doesnt??;)) as long as he is timing armors, railing and xerping ;)

and corcerning ztn - he has played in every tournament and is hopefully inproving his skillz there, so he should make a good fight with five-years-ago-best-players

Well they both are really good players, but is not the same beeing at home playing comfortable with all your stuff than beeing in a big lan with some presure and all the big names around you.

I really respect both players there noctis is really good and i know Krysa very well we fighted hard in some Q4 tournaments and saw him in ESWC Q4 so they have my respects, but what i want to tell is that in a big LAN tournament the things change a lot and you need MORE than beeing a good player or aiming very well.

Cant wait to see next lan tournament i hope that there are some surprises and that all have his chance on it :)

I cant help but say this, but krysa made an error in the game which actually may have costed him the game, he tries to take RA with sub 100 health when noctis is waiting with rg below, yeah simple mistake but I have found these very simple things do matter, I observe the best players minimize their mistakes so much ..like cooller never does that jump before reflecting like 10 grenades from the opposite ledge and therefore making sure there is the guy waiting below at all or not. I find really great players always exhaust all possibilities before taking a step, no matter what is the status of the game, they are losing, an armor away from reclaiming control ,any case, I mean how good aim, movement a player has finally q3 boils down to these kind of "thinking ahead"s and "nullify all possibility"s when they face someone with equal skill !!

I don't think you should describe players that reached absolutely nothing on LAN as the best or even among the best.
No quake player deserves that attribute until he beats bigtime players in bigtime tournaments.

Until that, noctis is certainly not in the top10 of european duel players, and it remains to be seen if this impression can change at ESWC masters and at ESWC.

Linged, I don't want to seriously waste my time. Its one thing to share your opinion of who you think are among the best. However, to not only say that you don't think someone is, but to bash other people on who their favorite players are - should be considered unethical and trollish bullshit. Step in the arena with one of those two I posted up there before you grow the internet dinah-dinahz (balls) to degrade them.

To say that noctis isn't a top 10 EU dueler is hilarious and for that we already haven't taken you seriously.

But to correct you further you must have been hinting that Krysa isn't a top 10 dueler as well. Krysa placed 2nd in the Quake Duck Hunt tourney (among other achievements). He did better against Cypher than most of Cypher's recent opponents (search the site for the grandfinal demos). He got off to a slow start on hub against noctis. He made a few errors on ZTN that cost him the game. I don't know him personally but I think if he were to seriously practice and give it %110 percent, he would be very successful in not only online tourneys but in LANs as well.

I've been following the feedback on these demos for a while, but those were just a few corrections that I know I needed to make.

I don't want to echauffe you even more, so let's agree in the most friendly of ways; the quake tournament scene or ranking discussions have never revolved around online play, but rather and pretty exclusively around LAN results.

Some people never understood that and got fired up when Fox beat Cooller with 25 frags on ztn online. On LAN, as good as Fox is, he was never close to the results of Cooller in q3 or q4 1v1.
There haven't been many tournaments the last years, but there still is no substance to your claim that noctis is a top10-player, because that is speculating around online play.

The discussion clearly also involves the question of who is playing actively and who is not, because you could and would have to place 5 swedes and 5 russians alone before a player that has zero results on LAN.

Noctis probably has game, but it remains to see who he beats and who he doesn't beat in tournament play before you place somebody in a top10 list that consists of plenty of players that have shown great play in a number of tournaments, real tournaments on LAN.

Krysa is a good player, but if you think he is among the 15 best players in Europe, that will simply remain your very own opinion that is difficult to share.

I see what you're saying, and I can tell that you know what you're talking about on the topic. It is my opinion, although what I had a problem with was the immediate assumption you took towards noctis skill level. Being my opinion and quite a few other people's, if noctis performs well under pressure at a global tournament, then our opinions will be justified. A lot of us think that noctis is one of the absolute best in Europe right now.

You made another great point about the "inactive" thing, and that was part of my point. As of now, March 2008, I strongly agree with the thought that noctis is amongst the best in continental Europe (I have no idea if Russia is considered Europe, that was something else that was said here). Many prior pros are no longer active (or atleast pubically).

Again with Krysa that may be my opinion. I really like his playing style, and I enjoy watching his pov - I simply think hes a great dueler. To me he is one of the best players in his region.

As far as ESWC goes, thats on a global scale. I definitely know that noctis has his work cut out for him on that level. I know here in the USA alone we have a handful of internationally successful duelers (both historically and currently).

My original intent was just to point out that these demos feature two very well recognized European duelers with a lot of ownage under their belt... Our thought on them being amongst the best in Europe is definitely opinionated and up for discussion.

What you write here is reasonable.
Noctis could very well have what it takes to beat good players on lan, and I certainly didn't want to put down his level of play and skill.
It's just that you don't put somebody who hasn't shown anything on lan in a ranking, especially not in one with the best players in Europe.

Online, Noctis has probably been the most prominent player with Cypher, but in all those tournaments, the really good players were missing, and again, that's only online.

How players rate now will be seen in the coming months.

With low pings and CPMA's netcode, playing on LAN or not doesn't make much difference, but I agree that even if online, he didn't play against the acknowled best Q3 players and that makes a lot of difference.

So I think in these conditions (low ping & cpma's netcode), playing online will be "the same" as playing the same opponent on lan. Theorically at least.

However, what can make a lot of difference when playing on lan is (lack of) confort with the equipment (mostly the monitor) and that on LAN the player may get more nervous, principally if there's a crowd. And that may affect those with less experience (noctis) more.

Yes it's difficult to judge noctis until he has proven something on a decent LAN. However, I believe that he is capable of playing the same level on a big tournament (he does have some experience after all).

Most people here are stubbornly holding on to the no-performances-on-LAN argument, and fail to see that he's actually an amazing player. I mean, just watch him on hub in this game, that may as well be czm playing there. He has improved a lot on ztn and he was already good on dm6; nodm9 and t4 might be his weak spots, we'll have to see it in the next few months.

I've never seen noctis on t4 but judging by his hub skills i suspect he could be good at it?

noctis hates t4, he tried it a little but did not like it, yeah that surprises me cause I agree t4 and hub has many elements in common with hub being more complex than t4.
