dm7 was classic, but slx was too noob compared to other french players, nice tactic by swedes to give up RA and rail for entire first 12-13 mins, yet keep it close and finally ripping the french apart !!!!

from what i could see sweden got owned till they finally started to rush.

well I saw fox pov only...seemed swedes were blocking all entrances to the quad -mega area ..thru the hallway, thru the underground way the teleporter and the 2 normal entrances to the quad+mega area for the first half, they got a few quads by this but could not make real use of em and french had a constant lead, later they took control of the ra+rail area and rushed. So far I thought dm7 was like hand off a rail+a ra to all teammates and then rampage...but swedes strongly defended that for a while, considering the french attack that was a success of some sort, well maybe from french pov it would look different ..and ofc it would ..such a close map !!!!

the french were constantly increasing their lead (up to 30+ frags or smth) until sweden started rushing. ;)

well, they took over RA & rail at some point, the rushing was just France trying to get it back.

they took it over with rushing and basically it was all rushing till the end then to keep france from getting it back, wouldn't say they were controlling RA as that should be very seldom the case in a highclass dm7 game.

its just that way, rush wins dm7 ;)

remove crippling effects, add weapon dropping, lower rail damage to 80 or increase armor value (ra 150, ya 100, ga 50) and vq3 (in reality: cq3) might stop looking dumb.. put the team back into team deathmatch :\

sure, the mg is a bitch.. but a lot of it can be avoided by not giving in to the "all cess" strategy.. and also, when being continuously hit by the mg removes all of your ability to move properly as the friction beneath your feet changes, making any attempt to dodge in a clever way totally pointless..

the damage is 5 per bullet if unarmored, and _1_ per bullet if armored, i'd say the major balance flaw here is that if you find yourself in a weak position against a newly spawned player, you are either gonna find yourself dead or severely hurt if you were unarmored, and completely stripped of your armor if you happened to have one.. even the heaviest of armor gets stripped in a matter of seconds by a newly spawned player..

having a RA will give you about 1 second longer to live if you face two machine gunners than if you were completely unarmored..

I agree in all of your points about the flaws of mg. One thing though. Not giving in to the all cess style might not be an option at all. I mean Sweden tries to avoid it in this demo yet has to change around and increase cessing to catch up with France.

yes, but i'd say thats because the item placements of dm7 is strangling the gameplay of the map.. that map is as close tdm gets to being ra3 with its "designated gathering points" where you're FORCED to go without being called campers.. you even see french players complaining about swedens choice of tactics in the beginning..

you don't see (not even near) as much cessing on other maps..

it's awesome, and would actually bring a higher risk to it than in cpm considering the longer weapon-change times.. plus that you lose focus for a bit.. overall cessyness would go down since dying and dropping your weapon can actually make a difference 30 seconds later when that exact weapon is later transferred to the quad carrier... etc

How do you figure that out? It can't get any more FFA in any case. Weapondrop promotes staying alive and favours players who're kitted.

Needs different maps too, q3dm7/pro-q3dm6 are just NOT able to support TDM. There is nowhere near enough weapons/armour/health for eight players (q3dm7 has less than ztn3tourney1 :S)

tdm maps aren't supposed to have an abundance of weapons. that's what gives them control points. otherwise we may as well play CA.

Of course, I was just listing all items, really most maps have it right when it comes to the amount of weapons (e.g. cpm4 is pretty good).

cpm4 has 7 weapons . dm7 has 6. dm6 has 7. dm14 has 6. ospdm6 has 7. ospdm5 has 8. i think you'll find this consistent amongst all of the major tdm maps.

It's not just the amount to be honest, it's which weapons etc.

true, France should have played clever, too and not rush RA while 3-4 armed swedes are in. Their lead was big enough to play it till the end by staying away from RA and only rush in with quad.

Interesting to see Sweden have avoided out and out cess on q3dm7 in most of their matches so far.

I guess they aren't as confident in their ability to out-aim their opponents as much in CPMA.

That dm7 game was a joke. Only in VQ3 can you use a starting weapon more than 50% of the time and still win. I played Quake 3 4on4 back in 1999/2000 and 8 years later nothing has changed. No new strategies, no structure, nothing.

fox is wasting his talent playing Quake 3. Its like Ronaldinho playing in A-League. What a joke this VQ3 "Team Deathmatch" is.

I assume you didn't watch any other dm7 this Nations Cup. If you had, you probably would've agreed that this game was quite enjoyable (speaking in TEAMdm terms).

Strangely enough I also played in 1999 and 2000.... and dm7 has always been pretty much dominated by mg.
But I agree on the strategies part, swe was looking like they were playing tactics from (around) 2000 on both dm6 and dm7.
But fox is not wasting his talent though. I dunno which game you're playing but q3 and q4 are still the games to master if you want to learn mad skills.

who said anything about fighting back? don't be stupid. mg is used to annoy/disrupt the railgun guy aiming. remember the 'cripple' effect in vq3.

if you don't have anything like that you'll be completely helpless against the rg in anything but super cramped maps.

over distance you cannot fight (fight back whatever) a guy with rg when you only have mg.

but what you should do is try to annoy him and disrupt his aiming and that's exactly where the mg becomes useful.
so yes shooting at him serves a purpose: we need something equal to the mg as long as we have a rg.

MG is way too strong, the CPM TDM maps are available if you want to test VQ3 on real TDM maps, real meaning 'not tiny' and more than 1/4 of an armour per player.

The only good thing in vq3 tdm is the quad.

Not all of the CPM TDM maps will work due to the movement though :o (Would with ramp/double jumps though)

None of the CPM TDM maps require ramps or doubles to function.

The maps still function of course but I'm not sure they would be that great or "work" (Ok so they'd be better than dm7/pdm6 but that's not exactly hard).

All I can think of is certain areas on a few of the maps which are really cool in CPM but largely because of how the movement gives options. CPM21's RA room comes to mind, in VQ3 it's just a dead end to the RA.

I compared this demo to another demo for the level of ffa cess.

"give it all the fancy names you want. Still was ZZZZzz." probably meant that you either think the cess in general is boring or that these particular demos were boring (given that you think logically today, sometimes you just have them switched off).

Either way there was no reason to say that to me since I just compared two demos so I stated that. Nowhere in my comment do I say that I like the cess gameplay or the demoes themselves.

Next you posted a semi wall of text going a bit jamerio on me (so sadly I have to write all this..). Thinking that I am "whining" for some reason when instead there is clearly a misunderstanding on your part.
