Hows that. That reg file really makes a difference after applied, and I don't notice any weird extra XP accel desktop/gaming anymore.

It lowers the accel to almost being non existant, accelfix.exe cuts it out of the picture.

Objective testing, done by yours truly. Only some games have the forced accel problem, and Q3 isn't one of them (UT, however, is). I've even figured out how to eliminate all mouse acceleration via registry keys.

So, RtCW and ET have the problem, while Q3 doesn't? You play with Direct Input?

I wasn't really sober when I made that post and I got a bit ahead of myself. However, most of it is true-- the cnq3 executable regardless of whether you use DI or not, doesn't force mouse acceleration. COD4 (non-DI game) also doesn't force mouse acceleration. It appears that newer games are starting to implement a fix for this age-old problem.

It's also true you can set the Windows acceleration curve to be perfectly linear so when a game does force acceleration it uses the new linear accel curve instead of the default "exponential" one. The curve can even be modified for perfect 1:1 mouse inputs. The problem is that Windows scales the outputs of the acceleration curve by your refresh rate, meaning that you have to use a certain accel curve designed for your refresh rate.

For example, if you use the 60Hz curve and you game at 60hz you will get a 1x/1x input/output relationship. However, if you use the same curve and game at 120hz, you will get a 1x/2x input/output curve but the relationship will still be linear, giveing the sensation of a higher sensitivity rather than acceleration.

I got a set of .reg files for every common refresh rate that I'll post in a zip file or something. If someone wants to go through my work, recognize the pattern, and write a small program that adapts the registry keys to whatever Hz the user is using on the fly, I'm all for it. It'll be much less intrusive than anir's mousefix and it should be a really simple program to write.

It was actually a really simple fix to figure out how to work around Microsoft's backwards logic (which you can read more about here)--im surprised it took so long for someone to figure it out.

EDIT: I've also got a nice accel curve that doesn't let the mouse go faster than 1 unit at a time. You can use this curve to clearly see if mouse accel is getting forced on in your game and still retain the ability to move your mouse (as opposed to a curve that deadlocks the cursor).

Should make more people aware of this solution since it obviously is more convenient, e.g. for LAN events.

Yes, I tested them all up to 200hz using moumrec.exe to count the mouse inputs vs cursor outputs.

I got the fixes all zipped up now, it'll be pretty obvious which reg file you'll want to use. I've only been able to test this at 400dpi, so there may be some tiny imperfections at higher dpis, but acceleration will be gone.

Contrary to what everyone is saying, it DOES work with WinXP SP3. More on that in a sec.

I sure hope aion didn't get in an accident or commit suicide (no pun intended at all) or something like that. Seriously. The guy is truly an asset to the community. Maybe he got bought off by a company? Razer? Logitech? Or Microsoft sent him a cease and desist??? That's quite possible, since he was editing out the Microsoft ballistics.

This is all only speculation, so don't jump me.

Anyway, here's how to get it to work with WinXP SP3:

1. Start in safe mode.
2. Apply the fix, and restart.
3. You're done! :-)

I've got it applied now, and it works perfectly. I pulled my hair out trying to get it working every other which way. I found out that only applying in safe mode would work, since if you look in the Event Viewer after you apply the fix, you'll see that Windows File Protection prevents it from being applied. Without doing some serious registry and hex editing, there's really no way to disable WFP other than running in safe mode.

Thanks for the input. I think i have figured out the solution.
It appears that the very latest version of accelfix.exe that aion put on Razer Blueprints before he disappeared is incompatible with SP3. I tried an older version that I found here http://phishcave.com/dwn/accelfix.zip and applied it in safe mode and now everything seems ok.
For the record, I tried the incompatible one in both regular Windows and safe mode and it was getting applied properly so that wasn't the problem.

Yes, that is correct. There are 2 versions. The latest one is incompatible. The older one IS compatible. I have both of them, thankfully. It was hard enough finding it.

I'm still having trouble getting the same feeling as SP2, dunno why :/
Maybe I'll just go back to SP2.

How exactly do u apply this? I dled accelfix and it always said mouse accel is on. So i select to turn it off and it says to restart. After the restart is says mosue accel is on again?!

Try applying it in safe mode.

How do u start safe mode (cant remember command and my comp seems to shoot past that screen @ start up v quickly so cant read)
