normal, i think now there are not so many difference between good players and legends like cooller, czm, etc.. level are so high and maps have no secrets.
Think that many young players born with an iphone in one hand and ps3 in the other. I think that very young players are very used to games, have many years with computers and technology, so they have advantage vs the old school quakers, they adapt faster to games in my opinion.
WHAT DO YOU THINK!!!!!! ;o (maybe i have to quit smoking!)
The very few new people that come to deathmatch games at a young age mostly have crazy aim but bad tactics. When they grow a bit older they start to use their brain a bit more and become well developed players.
can not tell for sure but experience does make a difference I guess, cause many of these new players who have great aim tend to buckle under pressure, but the old-school guys play at the same quality under all kind of situations. But leaving that issue aside mongo imho has lots of potential to become a pro later. In last few months when q3 was not this popular, he used to give rapha a tough battle in practice matches.
I disagree, the fundamentals of Quake are dead simple.
You could literally tech someone all of the basics in a day, you only get good by putting the hours in. There are no good players who have just come into quake and made an impression.
Even if you're naturally talented, it takes 1000's of games to stay within 10 frags of a top player. ANd even then, going from someone who can stay within 10 frags to someone who can actually beat a top player is again, another level which can take just as long.
Hard to say ecasue q3 is so old, its hard to tell who has the real talent and who's jsut played it so damn much they are good through time. And from there to e ale to play well in a ig tourney is again something else very few can do.
Too many people clueless today of what the difference between good and really good is.
yes, i'm agree with all of you, new players have better aim and i think they also learn tactics faster too. But see this demo, CZM is solid aimer (41% in all game), mongo can do greats things when has advantage in the score, but he can't do it the whole 15min. In second game czm plays constant the 15min, but mongo only for 5min later his aim and tactics goes very low.
I think you are right, young people can't concentrate enough, when they are winning can play very very well, but when you put him in pressure seems they can do nothing.
see that when mongo is winning start to say stupid things like "ugotjokes?" or "scream more please" (typical from 16 years brain) but when he see that has no effect in the other player he start to loose confidence.
Personally i don't like that young people don't respect people like zero4 or czm... maybe they can win it but remember that they help very much in grown this game.
I agree and I think you're making an excellent point here.
The difference between a great player and a good player playing great is the amount of concentration needed to maintain performance level. I think a good player has to concentrate vastly more to 'hang' with great, top players. I remember seeing a great player in the game I used to play before Quake, and he was hanging with some really good players while talking on his cell phone. His concentration on the game was mild yet he was still capable of playing on the same level as those who were fully focused on the game.
And I think that plays into how well a person would play at a huge LAN/Tournament. There are many distractions at LAN/Tournaments and a lot of pressure put on players to perform, but those great players can afford it because they have the abilities/performance so ingrained in their playstyle after 1000s of hours of playing that they could do it in their sleep.
I remember the 2006 CPM Masters Cup where the final came down to Dziku and Rat and the second set of bo3 went to Rat and a lot of players saying how sluggish Dziku looked in those last games. He was physically exhausted from concentrating so hard yet Rat still looked sharp and frosty. Not to take anything away from Dziku cause he's a great player, but Rat really showed where the years of experience come in handy.
you're retarded. "ugotjokes?" is a bind, and isn't mean to mean anything more than ":)" or ":>" or some other stupid emoticon, and, even if it did, why would that matter for a damn thing?
when he said "scream more," he was referring to the fact that he hit czm with machine gun like 50 million times and should've killed him already.
First, don't start saying "you are retarded" maybe not the best way to start talking with someone... (seems bush doesn't make good job with children education....:P)
And second, show your face and don't write as anonymous, it's better then you put your name if you are mongo, or maybe we will think you are mongo's boyfriend, because seems you really hate the comments that i made...and please don't come later with your true name saying thanks to the anonymous comments, it's better you think a little more...
Why was this demo uploaded? It was a practice game, you don't know for a fact who it is and it isn't even the so called czm pov. Stop trying to make yourself look better.
Does czm live out west when not matriculating? He's from Mass. so if he's back east at this point he wouldn't be pinging what this guy pings to DFW. I don't know what Californians ping to DFW either so this is clearly just speculation.
