I've played some of them, it's actually quite fun and they are very polite. An old favourite was facing fox in clan arena for sure, though I don't think I ever managed to score more points than him.

Did you manage to frag them at least once? Or a couple of times per game? Are YOU a pro-gamer? Or did were you CONSTANTLY fragged every 8-10 seconds in ways and in situations that seem humanly impossible?

Since clan arena is played 4on4 usually, I did manage to score high enough to get second place most times and yes that included nailing the finishing shot on fox a few times. It's not like I outplayed him, the moments we were fighting 1on1 it was rather obvious that he was better.

It's far from impossible to frag the top tier players, even in normal 1on1. And if you play smart you won't get killed all the time either. I've never managed to beat any "names" though. I myself am pretty far from a pro gamer (haven't even played q3 in years, though when I did, I did it a LOT.)

I've had many moments where I have performed very well in online games. Mostly in good ol' quake 2. I never played quake 3 that much though. I own quake 4, and would love to play it online, but there is a problem with it because the game crashes about 5 minutes into gameplay every single time. I even exchanged it for another copy, and it did the same thing. So I eventually got an xbox 360, and bought quake 4 for it. I am more skilled playing games with a keyboard and mouse than I am with an analog controller. Even though I have completed metal gear solid 2 on extreme difficulty twice, using a controller.

There was one time in my old quake 2 days where I had 600+ frags in one deathmatch and I was ranked in 1st. I was like 11-13 years old too. What I want is the quake "quad damage" edition, which comes with windows xp-compatible versions of quake 1, 2 and 3. It also comes with 4, but it is completely unplayable. I even downloaded the latest patch and it still crashed. It did so every time I zoomed in with a gun, or got to a certain point in the level. I was told that it had something to do with my radeon x-800 pro card.

I play Unreal Tournament 2004 on my desktop computer for fun, with no problems.

I got 3 frags vs Toxic, but then I killed myself once or twice, well the final score was something like 33:2 or something. He wasn't playing too serious obviously. I didn't get any frags vs fox :P he completely crushed me as far as I remember.

my opinion: when you play a pro player, you have to try playing strategical (this is the only way you might have a chance against them-well, not you, but generally speaking) because you'll be outaimed, well you won't win but it's not same thing if you lose against a pro by scores like 20-9 instead 45-0; try don't losing your calm when your opponent made 6 consecutive frags on you so don't rush on him, try to keep in mind all the time how much health/armor your opponent have, so you if you think clearly your aim will improve, count armors/items, and use the trick every experiences player do, force your opponent into choosing at some moment what he want, the megahealth or the red armor (this way you got the other one and have the chance to come back in control)
in order to do this it is very important to learn very well the maps, because this is the thing pro players are best, they have good aim but what makes the difference is they know how to control the maps: "anticipation is everything"
personally I was never good on dm6 because not enough practice on that map, but on ztn despite my lack of experience there too, playing very defensive I was able to beat some pretty good players, because compared to dm6 you have the possibility to play more defensive
t4 on the other hand is the only map I know all the "routines" so I think I would do pretty well against anybody with a decent ping; played even on some russian servers against players which seemed to know a bit how to play and won, with ping 100 (osp, not cpma) and on hungarian servers, where my ping is about 20-30 I won about 80% the matches I played on that map; funny thing was the surprise, many were beating me on ztn, then getting bored, changed the map to t4, saying for themselfs "now let me beat the hell out of him on t4", but surprise-surprise! I love that map! :D

funny thing was at some point I played a good player on dm6, he beated the hell out of me, then we played ztn a few matches, first match I won at minimum frag difference, he told me "it is very obvious I underestimated you", next match I won with more frags and 3rd or 4th game he wasn't able to do 1 frag on me, he just played worst and worst, starting to rush on me like crazy in a desperate try to find a way to beat me; I think he lost his calm and mentally lost the game; even pro players go through this, from time to time
also there were times when I was beating some "ego" players which said "seems this is not my day"
final conclusion: with enough practice you will do just fine, but it takes time

I believe that players like Fatal1ty, VoO, Toxic, and Fox have pre-disposed neurological "gifts" that give them seemingly impossible, superhuman reflexes, precision, accuracy, and more. I am no neurologist, but I know that I have been playing online FPS games since the release of Quake 2, when I was like 12 years old. I am 21 now, and I still can't win. Only agains't noobs. What I'd like to see is neurologists scan their brain activity and brainwave patterns while they are gaming. And see if there is not some kind of congenital gift that allows them to play with "inhuman" skill that cannot be achieved simply by practicing.

For as long as I have been playing video games, every since the NES, you would think that I would be really, really good at video games. But most of the people I have played agains't own me hard.

It's my belief that yes, anybody could be as good as Ronaldo. Some people may be more naturally inclined towards a certain thing and they can progress faster or easier than someone else, but that someone else could still get to the same level.

I have never been refered to as a God before,.... nice.. Just kidding, but I have played pros, and I play with upper tier players. There are several factors that give somebody leverage against another. Aim, experience, speed, skill, dodging, knowledge, experience. If a player plays and all he has is aim hes missing atleast 6 different levels that can be worked on to better his game. I think dude said it right.. play somebody at your level and crawl up. Though it doesn't hurt to get your ass kicked here and there so you can know how to properly distribute an ass whooping (do what they do)

Define 'pro'. I've played python lots and lots over the years. Do you consider him a 'pro'. He is fucking good.

There was once a box connection setup to a few UK quake servers from South Africa .
Us South Africans normally ping around 400 to UK servers , but this allowed us to ping 120 - 150 , a marginal improvement . So I joined Quakenet #ic , and asked Fox if he would please play me , he agreed . I had 140 ping he had around 80 ping on the UK server we played on .
He beat me 40 - 1 on monsoon L4DM2 , in 15 minutes , I felt very small and very noob hahaha . Oh and the frag I got was a telefrag ;D
I still felt very honored none of the less to have played Fox , and to be able to say I telefragged him once hahaha .

Thankfully not! Can hardly compete with fellow n00bs! :D Going to QuakeCon this year though so possibly then...

I've played against a few in q4 such as cha0ticz, fox, socrates, fooki and pretty much every top North American player during the 1.1-1.3 patch phase of q4.

In q3 I've played against czm, z4, rapha, fox, ddk, chance, and pretty much most of the active top North American players today.

Needless to say, I've experienced many rape sessions.
