85fps physics is not really a big issue for me. I like it the way it is, since I got used to it, and I guess everybody else as well. OSP was fun, but seriously is it THAT BIG OF DIFFERENCE? CPMA has tons of player-friendly features and one of the best, if not THE BEST, netcode ever created in FPS.

Then why I don't see a hell lot of players who have such a great movement like av3k or Cypher? In fact besides two of them and maybe few others, I don't see those "awesome-easy-movement players" (TDM/1v1) at all. Mastering the movement in CPM VQ3 is probably just as hard as mastering it in OSP. I'm actually quite sure that av3ks and Cyphers movement are event better (speed-wise) than most of the active OSP guys (TDM/1v1).

No offense, but I don't see this problem as such a big issue. 125fps physics would be fine, yes. However 85fps physics is not that bad (at least for me) - so it's fine by me.

As for xerp - I think lowering LG/RG damage would just do the thing for VQ3. IMO xerp itself is not a bad thing as long as it helps player to get better "lan feeling".

I don't argue with CPMA being great when it comes to netcode and such. I don't quite agree with its user friendlyness tho. I tried to make my friend play this game. I told him what to install (easyq3.txt came in handy, thx!) and so on. I explained him what's the difference between cpma/vq3, cpma/cpm, osp/vq3... In the end he said "man, i'm not playing this fucked up shit". It was too much of bullshit for him, waaaay to complicated. He couldn't set dedicated server with bots and practice mode didn't work for some reason. Fixing that without ability to read error messages and such is not possible...

First and foremost, and probably the most important thing, is that arQon is not forcing anyone to play CPMA. Instead of even these top players complaining about the use of CPMA why don't they petition the event organizers to not use it anymore? Why just blindly except it as THE competition mod since CPL (who's logical choices brought their extinction you may recall) decided this was the best move?

I, personally, don't care about physics and I don't see how bridge to rail is easier in CPMA, but why aren't you people organizing and doing something if you feel it's "ruining" your game, ESPECIALLY those that have any authority, like top-level players. They can band together and boycott unless their demands are met. You bet these poeple would listen if either noone shows or their tourney is full of scrubs noone has heard of without the use of OSP.

First of all, thanks for propably first constructive reply here. As for the top players, it's been always the same. They whine, they blame god and all saints yet still they are not gonna do ANYTHING about it. It's simple - they would rather play terrible game that earns them MONEY than risk something that radical as boycott. They played painkiller (even tho I love this game most ppl don't... for some reason), they played quake4, hardly anyone liked these games but they kept playing. So they won't quit quake3 just becouse of some annoying physics.

I don't blame CPMA, I blame arQon for not leaving us any choice. Of course for online game, CPMA is always better than laggy OSP, especially for HPB like me... But you can't just ignore the fact that arQon literally FORCED us to play these settings. He said "this is what quake was meant to be, get used to that". Why didn't he allow to make us a choice? Callvote physics 125fps or something like that. It's so simple, but arQon is not like that. Just face it, arQon is retarted nerd who spends his life doing mod for some fps game and creates his own philosophy of this game that everyone must follow. look on it from the other side: movement is fixed, fps-independent and 99% of jumps are possible, but now they just need to be done very clean. besides, don't you think that's more interesting when jumps like bridge2rail aren't walk in the balpark?
another thing: i'm pretty much sure that you could run as fast as on osp with haste, but once the lg beam is on you, you're going down, thanks to cripple effect.

Totally agree, the physics is what disturbs me. The fact that nobody noticed it right off and protested disturbs me even more.

Take Quakeworld for example, nobody felt like fixing jump height vs fps issues (they are by far much worse than in q3). If arqon was allowed to touch qw he would have fixed that!

Most professional careers start as pipe dreams and amatuer status (unfortunately competitive gaming got labelled "pro" before it really is - as I always say it needs more structure).

But people should be allowed to dream - they could do something that they love for a living / career...What's wrong with that? Sure they should go to school, etc. but that shouldn't deter them - same as if you were passionate about any other sport / hobby.

From what I have heard though, players play the map more than they play the other player now.

That's why clocks should be turned off for official matches and players should have to time items in their head. I didn't like a clock when I was playing, and I still don't like one. Takes the skill out of timing items.

Maps like ZTN and DM6 it is more important to play the map and time items than it is to predict the other player's movement.

In the old days, you had to keep the timing in your head and couldn't afford to get nailed with a rocket to try and grab an item because you could be off by a second or two and get owned while you wait. Now, because a player knows the exact second something is spawning, they can take a direct hit from a rocket or rail knowing that the damage will just be replenished instantly. If they had the possibility of being off by a few seconds in their timing, that would change.

Also, the increase from 20 to 25 seconds for armor timing made it easier to run maps.

Along with that, weapons respawning every 5 seconds limited the importance of controlling ammunition as well as running important weapons. Why do firing 10 rockets matter when you can just pick up another RL in 5 seconds? When you have to wait for 30 seconds or find ammo around the map, that changes things. This also put a player in a position to make some critical choices... Do I run the important weapon and get some ammo and miss an armor respawn in the process? Or do I get the armor and give up a useful weapon to my opponent? When it was this way, it was impossible to run a majority of the armor and health as you had other things to time and grab. (weapons and ammo)

Also, megahealth used to respawn 20 seconds after the expiring of the player having 100+ health. That also required a lot more skill than just looking at a clock and grabbing it every 35 seconds or 2 minutes depending on the map as you had to predict when the player was under 100h or do the dmg yourself and time the 20 seconds without the help of a clock. This also made it so there was only one active megahealth at any given time.

I have never liked the changes made to Quake 3 in that regard, even when it was initially released.

Playing computer games was also much different than playing console games. It was around the time of q3's release that the hapless nerd and 35 yo. virgin stereotype had begun to be shed. It may still be the case but for a lot of people, anything to do with computers outside of work was considered not 'cool'.
