Because its a thing you have to get used to,
This change should've been made in the past, where every player has to get used to it. Now it's to late.. now everybody is comfortable with it.

But in general, a q4 patch would be really awesome..

Its not a big change to get used to though, almost like changing fov, and when I play q3 I can get used to the lower view height very quickly. It just struck me after playing some Q4 straight after some Q3, that I can see exactly what people mean about Q4 feeling slow. For the sake of being a bit different, is it worth it? If there is a final patch it would be a good thing to add imo, as long as it doesn't break the game (can't see how).

from how it looks, with focus on Rage, Quake Live, and Quake5 coming, i don't think a patch is coming anytime soon, if at all, for quake4
especially considering the way Quake3 is going, ten years old, still going strong in the playerbase/competition sense

I know ;( But it would still be nice to have a final patch to get a few simple things the game would benefit from. Syncerror did do a post on these forums about a new patch, so I think id are thinking about it.

Q4 is still quite popular for a quake game, its very rare I can't get a game. In fact I would say the playerbase is just as active as Q3 - it just doesn't have any competative tournaments (which is a shame).

The way I see it, Q3 and Q4 are for different types of players. I like the movment in Q4 and don't really want the game to completely die before Q5 comes out. If people get put off with the slow feeling, it can only hurt the game more, not help it. For a little bit of work surely its worth id giving the game a final chance, afterall, the more popular any of their games become, is a good thing for them.

That issue has already been solved 2 years ago in GTR. (That's for the GTR and GTX gamemode, you can still play at VQ4's defaults)

no that's nothing hard to get used to, i actually don't even feel any difference, it's just that everything looks slightly bigger (and better too imo because the maps don't look that narrow anymore) :>

Its a shame GTR seems a long way off, it sounds cool.

i didn't said that its hard but nowadays people are used to it. and the flames calmed down already, so why changing it?

Don't change what isn't broken

It makes the game feel more fun, thats why it should be changed :)

If id didn't change what isn't broken we would still have v1.0 but with bugfixes. But I think almost everyone prefers the changes which 1.3 made. Fair enough 1.4 was more problematic, but those were pretty big and difficult changes. View height is something pretty simple afaik... I'm just saying if id release another patch it would be nice to have lower view height, dunno why you think its such a big risk to the game xD

lower view height is not a good idea with rockets the way they are.

If you mean because of the fat rockets, I don't think its enough of a lower view to cause a huge problem with that, the rockets aren't that fat anymore (besides the RL could do with being a bit harder to use). Having said that I have always wanted rockets to be 1 unit in width like the other quakes since I first started with q4 :)

the size of the rockets hasnt changed, so "not that fat anymore" has no bearing and belittles the rest of ur post tbf ;)

All I mean is the old patch where they were changed - basically saying, before then, I'd agree with you. But now I don't agree, unless you want to let me know what this huge problem will be? The only thing I can see is you'd have to aim a tiny bit higher with the rl to get the rockets to hit the ground further away...

It's nothing you have to get used to. You won't even really notice if you don't know it's lowered. Takes you like 1min and you'll get used to it :X

Everyone is looking at this the wrong way, its the Q3 viewpoint that needs to be higher, not the other way around.

I'm saying that if you increase q3's hitbox height, and increase map cales and adjust weapons and physics to match it, you might as well just decrease q3's hitbox width instead
