I am very proud to announce my first

Quake4 1v1 Duel Cup. It will be played during the weekend (surprise, surprise). If you've signed up, please make sure you have the time to play. Drop outs are lame!

Please record demo's of every game you'll play, cause i want to create an well sorted demo archive of the whole Cup. Thanks!
You'll have to stay in #q4cup @ quakenet during the whole Cup.

Rules:
* Date: Saturday, 16.08.2008
* Time: 12:00 CST (Check-in is at 11:30 CST)
* Timelimit 15
* Best out of Three
* Single Elimination
* 3rd Map gets decided due to Elimination (Winner's first)

What do I need to take part?

You have to be registered at the Cupsite. You'll also need Quake4 1.4.2, Q4max 0.82 and an IRC client, as well as all the maps in the map pool.

Mappool: Monsoon, Placebo Effect, Torment, Phrantic (mp/q4cmp3), and Galang - PLEASE only use the newest Version !1.2!

At least, Have lots of fun! :)

cg_unsmoothclients. This new cvar (defaulted to the preferred value of 2), makes the prediction of the other players' positions more accurate, and so makes the game much more playable at higher pings at the cost of some smoothness.

I have. Might have done somthing wrong in tampering with my net settings, but I'm not refering to the smoothness (or lack of) of my opponent, but rather the jerky feeling you get from having just the slightest lag.

I'm talking about when you move forward then freeze for half a second then end up where you started to move.

That doesnt happen at a 15ms ping - that behaviour starts at somewhere around 300ms, IIRC (you lose the ability to move at all at somewhere around 700ms).

It also happens if you suffer from significant packetloss, so maybe thats your issue - certainly not a > 15ms ping. If you have sufficient bandwidth, net_clientUserCmdBackup 2 or higher can perhaps hide the PL if thats the problem.

Opponents are very smooth even at 300ms ping, prior to cg_unsmoothclients - that is the reason why it is inaccurate, and why people found they had to lead when they shouldnt have needed to.
