Also, console doesnt work in ioquake3..

Console will be a keymapping issue - IIRC there are some hacks required to map it to the right key depending on your keyboard layout.

Re your main issue, I'm gunna go with "linux 3d graphics drivers are shit".

What gfx card are you using?

When I try to run it at the screens native resolution (1280*800)
with r_mode -1; r_customheight 800; r_customwidth 1280; vid_restart, the mapshot looks fine, no tearing just like it should be.. but after the map is done loading it goes into windowed mode and fucks up the mouse input:(

ioquake3 doesn't tell you which key you pushed when you tried to bring down the console ?

It does print "WORLD_n is unbound...." for me, so I simply had to bind it to "toggleconsole" and it worked :)

Have you tried the CNQ3 client ? Forget about it if you're on a 64bit system, its utterly slow compared to ioquake3 x86_64.

You may have to deal with your /etc/X11/xorg.conf. Paste its content here if you want, someone may highlight a wrong value :p

I had the same problem on my system last week. I had to edit the customheight/width right in the q3config file to get the proper resolution again (proper being the desired custome values).

Are ATI's drivers restricted like Nvidia's? I've not had success using their drivers since Ubuntu 7.1.

okay, here goes.. IIRC you have to do something with the home directory, and your config files and stuff.. could explain the game kicking you in windowed mode and stuff when you load a map..

secondly the weird mouse "feeling" could be caused by your mouse drivers.. dno much about the subject, but try to set sensitivity to MAX and accel to zero in the gui for the mouse input.. otherwise ask spyteman or whatever he is(no offense dude) i think he's running ubunutu with some quake 3

EDIT: oh, and for the love of Linus, DON'T wine anything!!

Weird, if I alt enter into full screen and clicky tap mouse1 or mouse2 it stays in fullscreen, if I miss a click it goes back to windowed.
