been using o&o for a while, tried pretty much all of them out there and i can say I'm very happy with it.

I use Diskeeper and I'm happy with it. Haven't tried o&o though, so can't say if it's better.

Just use default, there is a setting in windows too which can defrag automatically when pc is not in use.

I can reinstall windows and get all my progs back on there by the time full defrag is done. Bit extreme, but once you have everything backed up on other drive and ready to re-install its quick and nothing works aswell as a fresh install. Specially if it comes with SP2!

people still defrag in this day and age? NTFS isn't perfect, but it's by far no FAT32. what's the deal, here?

Hence my suggestion towards a fresh install.

Thing it was a bigger deal when everyone had crap hardware, these days not such a big deal.
