you don't need to press down-forward.. that is only a shortcut for arcade sticks
for a shoryuken just do: F-D-F punch

ambiguous DF, DB, UF, UB diagonals can usually be translated into simple directions on gamepad/keyboard

The PS2 controller sucks for everything.

Get a cheap stick, you should be able to find PS2 at really low prices.

Edit: also, play more st or a2, 3s is shit.

I'm new to Street Fighter series, and have mostly played 3s (I've played sfa2 and st too but not that much). So, noob questions:

I know st is good, but why does everyone hate 3s?

And, what's wrong with sfa3?

Not that I'm an expert or anything, but every fighting game has its own share of bullshit and it's a matter of which ones are you willing to eat.

The reasons why people hate 3s are, mostly, that it's unbalanced, lacks zoning, parries destroy strategy and create lots of option selects, it's based too much on guessing games, has lots of characters without any charisma, it relays too much on super cancels, etc, etc.

About a3... lots of people like it, but it has many problems like broken hitboxes, underpowered projectiles, overpowered v-ism, infinites, stupid juggles, etc...

everything is wrong with SFA3: weird hitboxes, low projectile damage, unnatural priorities, poor ISM balance, infinites, shitty synth music, silly counter hits (with fullscreen white flashes), flamboyantly gay announcer and shitty backgrounds that aren't improving at all upon the previous game.

SFA3 feels like Street Fighter turned into a Marvel game: all gimmicks, no substance.

3s gameplay feels loose or like "gum", new character designs are weird (not very related to Street Fighter's simple iconic characters), has poor use with projectiles for zoning/spacing, parrying is not hard enough for its reward (or limited by a factor - like costing super meter, so it can't be abused), universal overheads (which downplays on character uniqueness), some supers are really easy to be linked from normal hits (aspect deciding the tiers for the most part: Ken, Chun Li).

still, 3s is not a bad game in my book.. could've been better tho.

ST/SFA2 on the other hand are the essence of Street Fighter: solid hard hitting feeling, crisp animations, better balance, fireballs count in screen spacing.. less sugarcoat, more tactics and fundamentals deployed
