For CPM top players, LuGia, Ahxnxa, and Ovo all hail from Finland.

I dunno about Ahxnxa and Ovo, but I think LuGia plays vq3 a bit... he probably would've taken the qualifier if they had held a Finnish qualifier.

When people said they played CS did they say HL?
No they either said CS or HLCS. CPM is sufficiently different in terms of its game mechanics to justify being considered as a seperate "game".

VQ3 is only required when discussing Mods, or when trying to help a new player try out Q3/CPM. The requirement for the term has only come about due to the CPMA-OSP merge, ideally they would still be seperate but with only arQon to develop it's not an ideal situation.

You all knew what I meant due to the context of the "discussion". So you can just go back to your little CPM world where the Finns rule at Q3 even though none of them do.

uhm, yeah, comparing counterstrike and halflife with vq3 and cpm is quite stupid. the difference is too big between the first two. and i dont think you need halflife to play counterstrike anymore, so i guess it would count as stand alone?

what arqon made of cpma vq3 has nothing to do with this, take your crying elsewhere.

why would it matter if finns where superior? i highly doubt they are but that doesnt belong in this discussion. sure they have some good players but i cant see where you're going.

another "thing" is that i hardly play quake anymore. so i'm not defending anything like you seem to think.

I used the past tense for a reason. Besides the fact that CPM still uses Q3 textures/models etc it is quite different to Q3 bar the fact both are DM games. If CPM is Q3 then the only difference between any other DM game must be the engine and the textures/models/maps.

You should probably read the comment chain, as this isn't about Q3 vs other games or pointless terminology but about Finland having no top Q3 players.

Essentially finland skipped Q3. They had an impressive ammount of top players in QW and Q2 though (definately in swedens class), but for some reason i dont think they liked Q3 :). A bit too cartoony for the hardass finns perhaps?

I was thinking about the group C when writing this, the 2 spots are clearly taken by cooller and z4 (unless big surprise), and voo or chance could have passed the group stage if they were in the group A or D ... with 3 spots passing it leaves space for those who aren't advantaged by the group balance (same for rapha)

And, indeed a third placed guy in the groupstage wont finish top3, but it permits him to get a better placement than "9th-18th" - and i dont know about you, but i prefer seeing more q3 action @ gtv

Tournament rocked. Nice to see some close matches. I'm glad jibo got slapped (his +back was kind of annoying me, well.. because he is so good at it, damn near impossible to kill.) by rapha, who finally showed what he is made of. czm was also looking shit hot earlier on but I guess ran out of steam. unlucky to cooller, wp chance. And wp killsen and wp z4.. and.. FFS most ppl played FUCKING AMAZING.....

Not questioning cypher's great momento.
He's a very talented kid who has alot to offer to the game and he's in great shape.

I just dislike his behaviour .. and i think the kid needs a lesson.
Cooller was abit arrogant in the early years but i've never seen him disrespect his opponents.

When is the stream supposed to go live. Will it be featuring ONLY Q3? Fuck I guess I'm gonna have to get my Q3 out for GTV.

Monday:
9:39AM PST - Stream went up. Failed badly in Firefox 3.0. Errored and then crashed. Gonna try IE...
9:44AM PST - IE7.0 worked well. But now the stream is down.
9:49AM PST - Just discovered the ESWC "stage match" schedule. Nicky is right - only stage matches getting streamed. Which means there will only be FIVE opportunities to catch Q3 on the stage. I'm actually getting on STEAM now to download Q3, cause GTV seems to be the only good option.
9:57AM PST - Just bought Quake 3 for probably... the 5th time. Kinda sucks, but I guess I would have paid $20 bucks to watch quality streams anyway - I'll call it even. Now I just hope that GTV isn't Massive Epic Failure.

What could have been the greatest q3 tournament of all times has been ruined by first moving the finals to usa so that players can't get visa and then playing the games on monitors where everyone plays like shit and worse players can beat better players.

well if you have followed the north american duel scene for an year or longer you should be able to see how much rapha has improved over the year. He can lock down any opponent if he is on his game, but the thing is he chokes every so often. I recall him choking against griffin at a late night final in pro-duels tourney, I recall him choking against dkt in usa qualifiers wb final, if that guy doesnot do silly stuff he is top 3 material.

i'm sorry but lcd monitors really aren't that bad. of course it really sucks when you just try it just like that, but once you get used to it, it's all the same.

i've had to play on a lcd for a year now, and the first few days i was pissed and it was a bit strange but after a couple of days i can't say my aim was any worse than before.

i've played on a crt since then and my aim is just the same. yeah, it's smoother to the eye but i really don't think it affects aim that much, if at all. anyways, i think people are too picky about stuff when it comes to aiming... just point and click and forget about the little details. i've seen some people having *amazing* aim playing on the shittiest setups you can imagine. it's all in the head...

Even the best LCD in the world has a SHIT of display refresh rate, 65Hz? c'mon don't make me laugh!... I have a CRT that runs at 200Hz (iiyama Vision Master Pro 514), and don't say that "No delay / latency at all" bullshit, even the best CRT has delay/latency/ghosting.

CRT's are CLEARLY superior for gaming than any LCD in the market. Only the new SED technology can be better than a CRT dude.

Could someone explain to me why is it final that cooller is not going to pass to group stage 2? At the time I'm writing Z4 has finished his group matches and is 10-4. Cooller gotta play Voo and if he wins 2-0 gets the same 10-4. Besides the criteria should be like soccer: direct match. Cooller won vs z4.

If cooller wins 2-0 he has a mapscore of 8-4. zero4 has a mapscore of 9-4 and chance has a mapscore of 9-3.

also they can't be decided by direct match, because chance beat cooller, cooller beat zero4 and zero4 beat chance so they all have 1 loss and have to be decided by maps

means that cooller is out, sucks though because the groups were really imbalanced

it didn't matter how they were done, you were going to get a tight group somewhere, even more so if avek was present that would have really fucked things up

you can't watch the groups and say oh wait these groups were unfair. you have to look back to the previous tournaments (gamegune and masters and some online events perhaps) and base it from that

Seeds 1+3+5+7 = 16
Seeds 2+4+6+8 = 20

What's usually done in cases like this:

Seeds 1+4+5+8 = 18
Seeds 2+3+6+7 = 18
= balanced

Now they got a lot stronger group A.
This tournament seems more and more like a joke.

the history repeats, now cooller suffers, in eswc 2005 in similar situation cooller was chosen above toxic, now chance above cooller.

This is the end of vanilla quake 3 as we know it, quakelive has fairly different gameplay.

wp cooller, you played in a manner that made me watch quake 3 and play quake 3, no matter the result of this tourney, your influence, in the way quake is played, will live on till the end of quake.

I am happily impressed by Rapha and honestly wish him good luck. When Cypher gets to play him again (in the finals?) he's gonna need it, Cypher's inability to adjust to conditions showed too much, if total of 3 frags in 2x15 minutes on Rapha isn't enough proof, then I don't know what is. Just that... hopefully he'll get back to his own level before elimination starts.

Just watched rapha vs cypher game on ztn. Didn't find anything special in Rapha's play. He played as if he was Jibo or Death. The style was absolutely the same. I forced myself to follow rapha's POV just of extreme curiosity, otherwise it's completely unwatchable. Though I must admit that, as a rule, the style is rather efficient.

Instead of "reply" gave you a plus:) I wouldn't admit that he was even 1 or 2 steps ahead. He was just a bit more lucky then cypher several times - he managed to kill cypher with very low hp as well as to ran away with the same hp. The game was very tight and imo the score doesn't reflect that correctly. Anyway rapha was better that very time, I am convienced the only time against cypher, now and in future.

Ahaha, yeah. He got down to 1 hp a couple times. There was a moment where he was at MH and managed to grab it with 60hp just before Cypher railed him. Would've been a big kill for Cypher.

I agree that they have improved a lot. I instantly noticed that from the first game I watched, chance vs voo, and I knew they would do well. On the other hand, I also knew that their game was far inferior to europeans in the previous tournaments, just from a few before tournament demos that I watched, and I couldn't understand why the americans had hyped them so much.

Jibo has made himself a habit of beating cooller on nodm9... aside from that, he's comfortable with the map and it shows indeed. Dunno if it's the fat-food or the excessive sun in california, but yesterday's games produced some odd results in larger scale too, as several "homemaps" got robbed...

Well few years ago I can quote him saying that, noone would ever be able to ride over him on dm6. Im pretty sure that still counts.
Must have been at eswc 2004 in an interview.

2002 was the exact same siutation yet is far better linked to this because it was the (more or less) birth of cooller and the rivialry between he and zero4.

cooller got through on wins and created mass controversy because many thought he threw the game on purpose so zero4 couldn't get past the groups (zero4 actually tried to get him booted from the tournament or something).

this ends how it all began, except cooller is now in zero4's shoes even though he won

At least thats the current status..it might change for the playoffs.

The ztn game was not boring at all! Epic game. Jibo had the guts to run out the last 4:30 minutes with only a 4 frag lead against Z4. In any other random game its boring but in ESWC it was very tense and fun to watch live.

I don't get it. It says chance is out...but if chance beats killsen 2-0...he is IN and killsen is out. Since it'd be a 3way tie with czm/chance/killsen. But chance and killsen both took 1map from cypher...so it's just those 2. then chance > killsen head to head...so chance goes?!!? What am i missing? q3fuel2 is not so bad (3 years old movie), and I spoke mainly of its contents and not about the encoding quality and so on...

The good points in q3fuel2 contents are : Lot of n1 frags, not too much 3rd recam + non-stop actions. That's what I'm looking for if a dedicated eswc movie is done.

It would be nice if, for a change, there would be a frag movie that showed not only impressive frags, but also interesting plays (players outsmarting each other, for example).

I think with the right direction, the footage from ESWC could make it possible.

Controller semi-broke so I set a bad time trial, ended with 25th of 30 seeds.

Controller fully broke in first round so I had to forfiet my upper round 1 match.

Ran to buy a new controller for lower round 1, sucked donkey dick with it and lost.

But it's just bad manners too talk about the game behind a playing players back. Especially mentioning item times. Rapha didn't do it. Vo0 did as carmac said, and zero4 was there aswell. They should know better imo.

dm6 was intense, fgg, killsen really surprised everybody, 2bad it wasn't a 3mapper finals, but anyway was great.

Kiilsen was unlucky with that rail in OT, he hit it, but Cypher had lg and there's nothink he could do, anyway fgg Killsen.

Congrats cypher

Damn, q3 is just so competitive right now. So many players who are capable of beating eachother. Just need to look at the results to see a hell of a lot of a>b>c>a sorta results. It would be even worse if the rest of the best russians (and bellarussians) showed up at these tourneys.

dm6 in the finals was an awesome game. Specing killsen was just like watching cypher - hitting clutch rockets and rails to win fights out of no where. I missed a hell of a lot of matches though, so I'll enjoy going through them over the week.

WP to all the americans. While none made it to the finals, hopefully this decent showing will stop a bit of the hating around here, I doubt it though :). Very nice showing by Rapha, he must feel pretty hard done by to finish 3rd when he only dropped two sets - both of them against players he also bet once! Guess he just didn't win the ones that mattered most. Rapha showed some nice map control and patience in his matches - think he's part russian.

Sadly I slept through jibo vs z4 match. I've seen the pt4 score though lol. I'm glad someone finally had the balls to play z4 there, but I actually thought jibo if anyone would keep it close. Sheesh.

I have kinda been a supporter of this map selection format in the past - it does tend to force players to be more rounded. I used to find it frustrating to see hub specialists always pick hub back when it wasn't widely played - just seemed a little unfair. I think nowadays though, I'd prefer to bring back the old pick, pick, elimination format. I miss seeing players on their specialist maps. Under that format, I would expect the likes of Noctis and z4 to perform very well.

Ah well, great tournament. Death of q3 as qlive comes along? I'm not so sure after watching that czm video - he makes a good point :)

Fox has consistently been in the top, but never on top.
There have always been a couple of guys just a little bit stronger than him in duel, and when a tournament like this comes around, where many players are in topshape, his game just doesn't seem good enough to win it all.

Besides that it's not only about having a family now or in the near future. It's simply about working on a job career and getting a proper education like college etc.

While pro gaming might make you a couple of bucks a month now, it certainly won't in 20 years. And it's not like football, too, where you can play 10 years and basically enjoy the rest of your life.

So please nobody be surprised "oldskoolers" not being as good as they used to be. Once you're over 20 you got to start thinking about other stuff.

Well, the difference between these two is that Akiles was actually WINNING his games at WCG. K1llsen is probably the only Quake 3 player in history to finish 2nd in a major tournament after losing two games in a four-man group and barely advancing from it. Overall, he had lost three matches along the whole event, versus fox, chance, and Cypher. And he still managed to finish second.

This is how close and random the Quake 3 ESWC 2008 tournament at San Jose was.

Well, a group system is usually pretty fair. But if the skill gap of the top Quake 3 players is so small that basically any top8 player can win the whole tournament, then you have to have at least some luck in order to achieve top placings.

Good point. The skill level is so damn close that small things can effect results a lot.

Side note:
I think people ought to look at these tournaments more like an individual sporting event like golf or tennis. Tennis players and golf players will often have several bad tournaments in a row or go through a slump. It doesn't mean that people should simply declare that sportsmen useless or whatever. And it doesn't mean one player is absolutely better than another from one result or even a few. You ought to look in things over a wider time frame. People just seem to quick to come to silly conclusions such as killsen is outright #2 in the world or that czm was never a good based on a small sample of events. The ranking system someone made a while back for q4 was pretty cool. People were awarded points for placings weighted by how prestigious the tournament was.

Yeah, but the problem with Quake 3 is that you have much less events than in tennis or golf. And even if you do have some major tournaments then you have to have a sponsor in order go there, and not everyone who deserves it has one. That's why some really talented players sometimes just do not compete to the level that they are able to simply because they do not have the opportunities to develop themselves.

That's very romantic but the brutal reality is that most often you just simply do not have the assets to afford the risk of paying all costs of a long trip to another country and winning nothing

In Poland, where we do have some players that I'd surely be proud of in an event like ESWC Masters, a cost of flying to France and spending a couple days there equals 1/2-3/4 of an average month salary. This is a shit load of money for a young laddie that is still, for instance, learning and earning nothing or very little.

Therefore, those kind of guys have no international experience whatsoever and I think that we will all agree that there are moments in tournaments that experience is decisive.

And it's a closed circle - you can't gain experience, therefore you can't win with equally skilled but more experienced players. So, even if you go there, you end up losing and will not risk another time.

Yeah, there may be exceptions, but let's face it - how many great talents did we not discover because of that simple and brutally mundane economic situation of the middle-class young people?

K1llsen came second at CPL Italy 2006, only losing to Fox in the final.
He also finished second at Kode5 at Games Convention Leipzig (thats Quake 4 though), losing to Toxic. (I know, actually Cooller should've played but he was too lazy to get up on time lol)

What a horrifyingly awful reception the egyption player got from the gtv spec's. Its been a long time since I witnessed so much collective
racism, hard to believe that most of these people are in their mid 20's or older. And racism aside, the non stop mockery from the rest, why? what was his crime? being invited? turning up? taking his beating without whining? I despair... egypt is one of the most impoverished countries on earth, I think they have their hands full just surviving let alone putrifying behind a monitor getting their rail aim tweaked.

I'm sure eswc recognised the disparity in skill, but I applaud them for running the qualifier in that part of the world and the player himself for turning up and trying his best instead of giving up.

I dont expect much of a response to this post since a lot of those names on gtv are right here on this thread, proud and oblivious.

It's hard to measure something that isn't explicitly quantifiable. HDI isn't something I'm very familiar with, but I believe a lot of the "measurements" are subjective rather than quantitative.

I know HDI uses things like life expectancies, but doesn't it use other more subjective things like "happiness" or something like that?

As for the issue of Egypt, I have no clue. I've never been there and I haven't really that much experience studying Egypt either.

UN/OXFAM put the figure over 30% and rising. According to the UN there's between 20-23 million people below the poverty line. Thats just assessing the *poverty line*, now take into account all the factors that are missing from the picture such as industrialisation, technological infrastructure etc Sure you'll probably get a glimpse of that from places like cairo but remember this is north africa, mostly desert.

If the figure of 14% is accurate for the UK, thats still a shocking 8 million people but its a completely different context for us here - technological & industrial infrastructures in place, social welfare etc.

The poor guy forgot his headphones, luckily one of the other admins had a pair that he could use. It's a pity such poor rules were used. It'd have been better with groups into double elim or plain double elim than this system where czm was put in the position of being honourable or throwing a game for a teammate (respect to him for picking the former). Sudden death also seems like a poor choice, I'd thought people had come around to seeing overtime as the best option.

I also don't think we should really count czm's cpl 06 victory as well because cooller was playing q4 that season and didn't get enough practice to play q3 at cpl 06 against czm. SO czm's cpl 06 victory shouldn't count as well either. Most of the longtime q3/q4 players didn't play in that torunament either so it shouldn't really count

so in other words, czm never really won any turnaments due to people not practicing or many people playing.

Cooller did practice and was obviously better then czm but he made a mistake in not training hub. It was the only weak map of him. And the lot gave hub. That's the only reason Cooller didnt win that qcon. On the other hand I should admit that a top contender must play all the maps competitive and not rely on luck.

DE should never be used for serious LAN competition, fuck I would be happy with SE, DE is in a serious competition environment just favors better players who slip up.

best of 3 over 5 solid maps with adequate warm-up and setup time and that's more than fair. This group system works better now as there is no decent ranking that can be used for good seeding as far as using a bracket goes.

Save DE for the internet where it makes much more sense

Better cypher than jibo. I think that if any of those can take quake3 to another level again that's cypher.

For fox.. this negative results.. as in for a player who practices and has been playing for so many years at the highest level just prove why he didn't used to play 1on1 at official tourneys .. and that he never should have started.

Even tho he's a player that i appreciate alot since he's very smart solid and has a consistent aim .. the place where he fits is teamdm for sure.

You shouldn't judge czm for his last 3 tourneys.. The quake3 scene has new players.. full of will to be number 1 and working hard to get there. Czm stopped playing for a years.. not saying he didn't practised for eswc just that probably he will never get as good as 3 years ago.

he has the technical ability but not the mentality for it. I guess it can happen when you beat everyone 24/7 and then come to a tourney and meet some really heavy artillery. But he's been there 100 times before, one would expect him not to totally lose it.. like vs z4 on hub.

I like fox and I'm surely not wishing to bash him but what I did not like about him at ESWC is that he dropped the last game only because if he had won, it wouldn't change that he did not advance. There were surely people rooting for him during the tournament or just enjoy watching him and that kind of behaviour just shows a lack of respect for those lads.

No offense to Cypher, he's an amazing player and deserved his win, but I think the reasons why Cypher won this tournament basically comes down to out and out aim.

Czm said it himself where, in situations he would usually win, he was just getting railed 2x or 3x in a row and could do nothing but hope that Cypher missed his shots.

Duel and TDM players, like fox, imo build a great number of technical skills like tactics, item control, positioning, etc. But if Cypher plays a ton of RA3 or CA or whatever, he's been refining that insane aim and movement. So I wonder at this point in Q3's lifespan that if dueling or TDMing is even the route to take when practicing for high end tournaments?

Like Zero4 said in his interview, everyone knows exactly what to do on the "big 5" maps (ztn, dm6, nodm9, pt4, hub) and timing armors isn't exactly hard, so what it really boils down to at such high levels is out-aiming your opponent. There was a lot of moments in this tournament where Cypher was out of position and still able to hit insane shots on his opponents.

I'm starting to think that practicing duels for tournaments, to a certain extent, at this point may be all for nothing...

he just doesn't know all the teleports on ztn for example.

btw, there's a nice air rocket (ali POV) vs zero4 on ztn:) and several grenade facials to boot!

zero4 looks like a really nice guy. at one time on ztn he intentionally let ali get a frag!

I just wanna give mad props to organizers of ESWC because the coverage was a triumph. I'm making a note here: "HUGE success". It's hard to overstate my satisfaction!

GTV list from ESCW live page is pimp! I don't think can ever live without it.
Scorebots for almost all matches providing the most up-to-date results were well set up.
GTV itself, of course was absolutely on the money, perfectly executed. Thank you hosters and admins.
ESR and other sites did marvelous job using everything above to create compelling coverage for the event.

MANY THANKS to everyone who particapated in trasferring the information from the event area to the masses! You did a great job.

Overall an amazing tournament! Respect to all the players, especially ALI NAB who finished all games unlike some other players.

But I suggest changing the tournament format to groups into double elim brackets. This way every game means something, rather then people still having to play games when they are already out which caused a few to /quit or not play their last game at all.

BIG respect to czm for playing every match as well as he could and not throwing that game to chance even if he was his team m8/country man etc. Just watch the czm interview on SK. He is the most down to earth, respectful player out there and has been for many years. It's a great interview.

I'd also like to say well done rapha, finally a good result (must have had no mouse problems this time.) and showed some of the most memorable games I have ever seen. That dm6 game 8-8.... just .... INCREDIBLE.

And also much respect to killsen too, he made it a great final hitting as many omfg shots as cypher. I'm sure he is thrilled especially since the mouse problems at masters were resolved.

I've got too much to say tbh.. I'll just finish by saying that it was a shame that avek could not attend and that crt monitors seem to be so hard get.

Is this the last quake 3 tournament ever? LOL, watch the czm interview for the answer to this question.

cooller-z4 on ztn is worth watching. The final plasma kill is hilarious.

A real pity he dropped out that early as he seemed to be warming up and is always fun to watch. He may have some or not, but his games always project a special kind of humor. Like when he launches second attacks right after encounters where both players left health/armor points and should be happy to retreat.

In that game for example where z4 kind of surprises him at the rail tele and they exchange some rox. After z4 going through tele you wouldn't expect more to happen, but cooller comes right after and gives him another rail. That's beautiful moves and I'd really have appreciated more of that.

obviously the more the game is being played the better players become with the years, but it just dosen't change the fact that no one in q3 history would stand against a top-form cypher, not cooller, not zero4 and not czm.

Depends on your definition of course. But I would give credit to the most accomplished players and give weightings to the tournaments they won based on prestige. Not going to actually calculate anything but it is still cooller then z4 in my opinion.

Cypher has done excellently recently, winning 3 big tournaments and doing well online. But personally, I don't feel he is so much better than we can simply say he is outright the most skilled ever. Instead, I would say he has the best recent results. You only have to look at tournament results from eswc, asus and online to see he is not untouchable. Not trying to take anything away, because he does win the big matches.

It's funny, if we were to simply end competitive golf/tennis or any other individual sport completely. Would we come to the conclusion that the most recent tournament winners must be the greatest to have ever played? Personally, I'd look over career results. Unfortunately for cypher, his q3 career has been too short to give him credit as being the best ever (in my opinion). It is this sort of thinking that lead many to say czm was the greatest ever when q3 last 'ended' since he had the greatest recent results. Now many people are recanting that statement.

All that said, judging on his recent results, I don't doubt that if q3 tournaments continued he would continue a reign similar to coollers, z4s or fats. If czm is right, maybe q3 isn't dead and cypher may get his chance to prove he is the best ever.

Agreed. Cypher's shape atm is awsome. I also know how he started to play q3 so I can say, that he really made a great achievement. Still, cant say, that he is best ever, cause his domination on q3 scene doesn't last long enough to make that conclusion. My top 5 of all time are:

Cypher now has the world champion title - that's his major score. Lexer didn't manage to win a world title, but he was 2-nd (WCG 2002) and 3-rd (ESWC 2003), besides he won QCON 2002 which, imo, was one of the high-skilled major q3 events and he dominated very strong russian q3 scene for quite a long time. That makes me think, that I can put him on the 4-th place together with cypher. And, finally, I wouldn't place czm higher, then he is. As well as Lexer, he doesn't pocess world title: 2-nd on ESWC 2005, 2-nd (with US team) on ESWC 2004 and Qcon 2004 champion and CPL 2006 champion. Basically, almost the same records, but I still believe Lexer was better.

Cypher didn't as well. For instance, remember Asus Summer 2007, against cooller btw. Cooller is the only q3 player, who managed to win 2 world champion titles - so far this is unique record. If I'm not mistaken, only Gitzz won 2 (3?) world champion titles. Though I'm not sure it was the same unreal...

At wcg one year, cooller and z4 were in the same group. If cooller lost to NIE (think thats his name), z4 wouldn't go through based on points. If cooller won, z4 would go through instead of NIE. Rumour has it that cooller threw the match against NIE so that he wouldn't have to face z4 again later in the tournament. I don't know if it was ever confirmed, but it was easy to come to that conclusion because cooller lost on dm6 - and he was pretty much untouchable there at the time. Anyone know if cooller ever admitted he lost on purpose? I can't remember now.

"Pretty much untouchable" suits very well:) By the way it costed enormous efforts for the head of the russian delegation to prove that cooller didn't loose on purpose and to get him not disqualified from the tourney. If I'm not mistaken there was one rumor that cooller didn't let z4 out of the group cause he (z4) was going to meet b100.death one or two rounds latter in the upper bracket...

ZeRo4 was biting cooller's heel (the way professional players usually deal their problems, in the professional way, of course). but cooller spanked ZeRo4, first. it's not very clear who's fault was. at a guess, it might be WCG (you find all story in History After Judas, anyway- chapter "forgive those which put their rocket launcher into temptation" )

Don't know about ranking people, but some of players I like to watch because I find their styles interesting...

cooller - don't need an explanation :P

stelam - Awesome timing and control. One of the first players I saw who would consistently try to lock down rail (and sometimes rl) on the map. His matches vs python and blokey from a early wcg are worth checking out, so methodical.

unkind - Those rockets... bouncing people all over the place. Plus his twitchy mouse sense is just crazy to watch.

z4 - pt4 mastery

cypher - Aiming and movement at its finest

fooki - Clever play, ambushes, seems to know how to play in all situations so well. Learnt a few subtle tricks watching him.
