Now that they've got a somewhat advanced client they could start actually conffing the TDM gameplay itself so it won't end up being the same shitty CG+RG shitfest that Q2 is.

I think changing the game play is the worst thing what could happen to Q2. :)

QW is nice with airaccel and the realfeel of things.

That's because you never really played q2. :)

Much more powerful armors, a cooler delayed railgun, a lot of fun with the inventory, more items(like a special armor suit that runs on hyperblaster/BFG ammo) and all the items are droppable.

Awesome trickjumping as well, double and triple jumps, strafejumps.

The fighting action once a fight is initiated is kind of lackluster compared to QW, but the strategy and mindgames are a lot of fun.

Hmm maybee should watch some demos. Becouse I like watching mindgames.

yeah, in q2 there is a lot of ladder jumps (teamplay - double jump over a teammate) =]

Only real reason to bother with Q2 would be the CTF part of things.

You should probably add "Imo"... There are a lot of people still playing the game and I dont think they agree with you. It's a great game but it's not like QW/Q3/Q4 or anything else for that matter. The action is awesome and I love it obviously, and Ive played all 4 quake games at higher level and I have to say I like them all. But Q2 is what I prefer. Eventhough I like all Quakes in their own way.

Q2 is the only game in the series where tricks matter

Tricks, positioning, weapon of choice and weapon dropping are 4 very important things that makes Q2 stand out in difference from the other quakes.

true, i could install it and play again, but then i have to get everything sorted again with what textpack i prefer, crosshair, binds, config settings and so on, which dismotivates me as I'm in lazy mode lately.

been playing all quake games so far and still q2 is a game that has something special above the other quake series. now me saying that makes me wonder why I switched to q3 mm

its the only map that works for both tdm and 1vs1 :-)

From the original 7 maps that are played ( I dont count q2dm4 ) you can also play q2dm3 1v1/2v2/4v4/ without problem, but we have 9 more custom maps in EDL (european duel league) wich makes a total of 11 official duel maps so we got to chose from :)

well i used to like dm3 but somehow i just dont like it anymore (1vs1)

i loved q2duel5 and q2duel8 for duel back in the days :)
hardly play anymore, bit of a shame :P

It's pretty normal if a map is considered really good in one game .. and when someone makes a version to another it really sucks. When someone designs a map he has his mind in the game he's creating the map for. The movements, the balance of weapons etc etc.. and that's what guides him.

Q2dm1 is one of the best maps i've ever played.. even tho sometimes it gets a bit boring.. but in q4 it was really really bad, atleast in my opinion.

Nevertheless .. there are some pretty good maps in q2.. this small community never let q2 die and created maps for 1on1 and leagues for teamdm..even tho there was no reward unless having fun playing the game they loved.

That's some attitude that many should learn something from.

PS : is there ztn for q2?

ztn did like ~5 maps (+ 2 remakes) for q2, but none of them is any simillar to ztn3tourney1.. i saw a conversion of ztndm1 (which is qw version of ztn3tourney1) but it's not played at all

i don't think it's that easy for one person to do all the work.. and moreover, when r1ch tries to change anything it usually affects the q2 feeling and people refuse to use things like that :<

All it does is make ping feel reduced. There is still a delay. It seemed awesome when it was in beta but then it seemed the project disappeared. I would get USA together for NDML again if it was enhanced but it seems it's not happening :P

The project is still going ahead, I just have trouble figuring out how to handle the animation stuff properly. Most of the outstanding 20FPS bugs are now resolved, the animations screwing up is a big showstopper though so I'm not even going to beta test it until I can figure out how to do it.
