They're just fucking awful, stupid shit happens like the sensitivity changes in certain games randomly (although I think I have that fixed now, and no it's nothing to do with the DPI switch.. well it is but it shouldn't be) they're huge and just sorta unpleasant to use to be honest.

Yeah, logitech have hired him to swing the opinions of the people on ESR, they want all the people whining about CPMA VQ3 to be using THEIR mouse when they click the post button!

Perfect control is best, but with the G5 when you go a little faster the mouse just fucks up and you might end up looking at the floor in any random direction. This might not be a good thing to happen while you're playing depending, of course, on your style (in case you enjoy looking at the floor).

This malfunction doesn't happen on the MX518

I have heard the mouse improves on different mousemats. However if you have any kind of low sensitivity then steer clear of the G5. If you don't have a low sens then you could buy it and hope for the best.

Get the mx518. The newer models (with 2000) dpi have the BASE of the g5, which was actually really good.

It has huge teflon pads. I do miss the cord on the G5 and the the rustic feel and look of the mouse. Other than that I hope it>
I also have a feeling the new Mx518's will overclock better. As I got one when it first came out and mine would not hit 500 Hz, not that I oc usb anymore.

I have one of the recent MX518s, it has 1800DPI and the big feet of the G5. The performance of it is terrible imo, I don't know what they did to the sensor but it feels messed up. I was using it on 400DPI and it was a lot worse than the older MX518 using the same DPI.
Maybe it's better if you use it at 1800DPI like the Deathadder.

Yeah something has changed.
When I first got one it would not overclock to 500 hz and it had the same feet as the mx510.

So when I ordered another a few years later I did notice a change. To be honest I only got the 518 cos I could not get the mx510, to which I am only replacing because I have worn out the feet AND part of plastic base.

Amazing how they fuck simple things up.

OK so they're not all that similar. But the DB is only 1.8 m/s and I've never had a problem with it. I just don't think .5 m/s less for the G5 will make that much difference.

for myself, and the three other people i know who've used it, then yes.
tracking loss is a big problem, especially on cloth pads.

depends on your sensitivity and gametype... if you move your mouse above a certain speed, the laser sensors cannot keep up tracking

on a sidenote: the mousing surface can make a big difference for lasermice (see razer destructor)

people with a mid/high sens dont have to travel the mouse such a long distance and therefor, to stay precise, move the mouse slower
for high sens players (like RTS players), I can actually recommend laser, since its more accurate

generally speaking, if you require a bigger sized mousepad, you'll probably also want to stay away from laser

not all laser sensors. recently I tried g9 and I must say it's a superb sensor. really had to use way more speed than I'd ever do in game to make it tilt.

btw I use ~35cm/360 and do A LOT of fast turns, matter of fact I can even get IE3.0 to skip doing the moves I did to make g9 skip so yea, it's a really good sensor.

Yes, it's shit and will leave your player looking at the ceiling after it malfunctions constantly. Get a proper gaming mouse: MX500, MX510, MX518, MS 3.0, Ikari Optical or the Razer Death Adder.

Also razer db and krait are very good sensor-wise.

you test it in paint by drawing straight lines. Virtical or horizontal.

yup. I wasn't able to draw a straight lines across the screen. if g9 has that correction thing it's very minor compared to say mx518 where you just whip the mouse in a general horizontal direction and bam! perfect straight line.

uhhh....mine deffinately had the "snap" on to line thing, as i could draw perfect straight lins at 800 dpi, while i struggled with it on ms mice that had 400.

On 3200 dpi the correction is less obvious though

I would say I'm medium sens player (low-med maybe). I have a goliathus large control mat (44.4cm by 35.5cm), but just for comfort, I only use the middle. Think I will get a speed version to try as well.

For mouse I'm now thinking neither the g5 or the mx518 will suit me, seems there are lots of problems with both after reading the forums.

that review means nothing. DA has like 1001 bugs like all razer mice, but hey it glows so I guess it should be good enough for you.

I don't care if it glows or not, ms mice just look like they fell out of the 90s.

Plus the best thing about razer mice is the buttons have a nice *click*, much more satisfying than anything else I've tried.

My old mx510 feels like poking a dead jellyfish. Very weak in comparison to the DB.

razer uses good sensors in most of their mice but their build quality is beyond terrible imo.

The G5 is fucking fine! There's just a stigma with laser sensors amongst the 'pro-gaming' community. Most of them have never even laid hands of them. I have played against people using the G5 that have dominated the servers they were on.

The MX518 is fine, too. Don't overthink it!

Ever heard of overhyped? I have a g9 and its a fuck load better than that piece of shit Death Adder unfortunately I had 3 DA's and 1 g9 that should tell you something. Also when I don't use my g9 I use a WMO or 3.0 because its the next best in class granted I have one of the old IME 3's x08 version :)

Yeah, I figured is cannot be anywhere near as bad as some people are making out.

My old DB (first edition) was almost perfect, I just didn't like the side buttons. So I think the DA will be a nice upgrade from the DB, better sensor and nicer side buttons.

We shall see though.

I have never understood why Logitech makes such a weird shape with their mouses. I find them to be really really uncomfortable. I'm happy with my G3 though and the shapes for the Razers look nice as well. Symmetrical shapes just feel better to me.

I know you're choosing between G5 and MX518, but I think you should give the MS3.0 another look as well....if you're looking for some ergonomic shape that is.

Lift off distance is not a problem. It is higher than my DB and mx510, but I only noticed because I measured it. In game I do not notice at all.

Side buttons much nicer than the DB too.
