Audio timers are not allowed (and should not work on pure servers anyway). Timing scripts are only allowed in tdm/ctf. For those scripts you have to enter the time when you took it and it tells you when it spawns again (not really useful for duel anyway since its faster to just calculate it yourself). They are mostly used by coaches in tdm/ctf.

Its probably possible to use those in ql aswell.

As i said before, no timing scripts allowed for duel (+pointless anyway).

The megahealth usually gets picked up just as it spawns so it spawns on the same times every game: 0.40,1.15, 1.50, 2.25, 3.00 and then in starts over again, just +3 minutes. Get used to these times, then when playing if the MH gets picked up 10 seconds late just add 10 seconds to all these times (so it will be at 2.00, 2.35, 3.10 etc)

I don't time armors, I just alternate which I pick up. Try and get a feel for the different maps.

nah, timing that way means I can still have a guesstimate on MH time if I havent seen it in a while, assuming my opponent has kept picking it up. Also no additions/memorizing of arb numbers. If I do lose track I just need to see the pickup once and I will know the times for the rest of the game again..

But I do not think it's a good idea to take those 'starting numbers'.

That would perhaps work for the first 3 minutes, after that it gets risky.

I do it differently, I remember what previous timings were, and base the next spawn on that info, similair but not the same.

well you're not supposed to miss 3 MH and then think it will spawn right when you expect it to, obviously you should show up for everyone and keep the timing by keeping the difference to those times in mind. there's no way to time MH accurately if you don't show up, be it this or any other way :)

I managed to time it accurately some times, all depends on the situation but I personally will not even try to rely on it.

I typically try to keep the sequence of items in mind. If 1st YA is picked up... and then I run straight over to the 2nd YA on the map and then grab RA, then I know that when that first YA respawns, I should have so-and-so time to grab 2nd YA and the RA. Kind of what Raithza is saying, except I don't really think about the seconds involved, it's more a "feeling".

This also helps for when your opponent is trying to break your control of a map (in duels), that you'll notice one of the sequenced items isn't there when you arrive which means that the other item is probably available which will give you an idea what kind of armor your opponent has, when those items respawn and as well as that you might need to put yourself in more defensive positionings for the next 30 seconds until new item sequence starts. Typically when I have an enemy breaking my sequence, I'll move to a position that allows me to pick up the RA as soon as it respawns or allows me to reset the sequence (delaying armor pick up).

However, a disclaimer, doing the sequence style can backfire if you allow some really bad fight to occur and you completely hand over map control by badluck (they're at the right place at the right time) or they're wise enough to know that you've sequenced it and what that sequence is.

Also, just playing enough and you'll get a "feel" for the timing of everything.

for cpma/vq3 and QL
i just add 20 seconds to the time, then 3 seconds again instead of trying to pick 25 right off the bat for armors
so if something is picked up at 5:50, then i know 6:10 is 20s later, then 6:13 is 3s after that
and that time, that's when i'll show up at an armor or be within earshot for the spawn, so im not standing around waiting for it to spawn
swoop in for the pickup and be off on my merry way

you can get external software to do the timing with audio files for you, so pure servers don't help here. but ye, it is regarded cheating and absolutely not accepted nonetheless :)

Just get good at adding 5 to 1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8/9.. just know it. Other than that if youre not playing anyone serious you should be able to tell or learn how long 25 secs feels like, its not as hard as it sounds to be correct within 2-3 seconds of the item spawning without timing. And like other said you can also time from things with the same time. Another thing is the megahealth usually alternates between armours so its like MH-YA-RA-YA-RA-MH-YA-RA.. and so on. So then at least you know what area to be in ;)

Whats just as important as timing is being able to fight in the areas where the item is. If the other guy is timing then you need to be able to either attack them there, or defend yourself or escape from the area. So you need to know things like where to stand, and where to place rockets and grenades and stuff, otherwise timing will be next to useless because they will just kick your arse when you show up.

i was thinking about this the other day. does anyone else use the 'method' of saying r35, or m55 in chron order (so for example when u get red u switch to m55, r0) etc. ? I was originally just saying in my head red at 25 and the mega at 55, but as soon as i switched to the other way, memorizing became much easier. jw what other people do/think. That was always the easiest way of timing for me
