as for CPM (the gameplay), you're best off in

#cpmpickup (EU) - by far the busiest channel
#uscpmpickup (US)
#promode (whining at devs)
#cpma.na (freshmen, easy 1v1)

You can get my config (because I'm best lulz) from my webspace - together with my hud file. CPMA uses something called SuperHUD which is highly customisable. For this and other things you might want to have a look at the promode wiki. Your install seems to be ready, except for some custom maps that you might need to join - get them from the Pickup rules page.

Notice that my config uses a custom resolution (r_mode -1) set to 1280x800 as I'm playing on a laptop. Adjust r_customheight/-width according to your wishes or just use a standard resolution like r_mode 6 (1024x768) or r_mode 4 (800x600).
All configs go to \baseq3 (that's where maps etc. should go as well), autoexec.cfg and the hud folder (as a folder) go to \cpma (as it should load the other configs for CPMA). If you got questions, just ask around. Easiest way is probably on IRC.
