Nope. I don't know why they came to mind, I havn't seen any video featuring them and "Open your eyes" was the best alternative. Too bad they'd been used before though. I still believe it would be a good choice for an intro song for a Q3 frag movie.
well im not set on trance, at the end of the day i wanna use what people want to see/hear!! and if you can name someone more eligible for the movie with demos, please tell me as the reason for it being cooller, is because his previous "movie" failed hard!!
I think Nicky had a good idea using some hardcore classical. I'd strongly suggest using something universally recognizable and epic, just like Cooller is.
Carmina Burana would be a good start, or maybe even look up some old school Russian classical, as that would be very appropo
you could go for something totally different and use some dramatic classical music, no not my kinda music normally but if its the intro you need a good build up :P
Does it have to be slow and then buildup, or just immediately start with beats? What kind of trance were you looking for? uplifting & melodic, hardtrance, chillout (like chicane)? and with or without vocals?
I know quite a lot about trance, I'll be happy to suggest you some.
(one of the best intro tracks imo is Aria - Dido (Armin van Buuren Universal Religion Remix))
But dont just pick a genre, quake movies can be both good and bad with metal, trance or something else. Quakecon 2002 highlights was with Led Zeppelin and it worked perfectly. Try something new..
I'm not going to tell you EXACTLY what to put in...
But for fuck sakes, please follow some basic rules
A) Make it LISTENABLE (Aka, no super scream-o music, annoying bland techno, etc. If it's stand able, and listenable, you're on the right track)
B) Avoid overused music (If it's been in a shitload of frag videos before, or anything else on YouTube, don't bother. Frag videos should be about showing nice frags, but at the same time, should show some creativity in terms of editing and audio. Pick something unique)
C) Edit the video with the music (Try putting some rail shots with a beat, or editing the video for certain parts of the song. If it slows down for a second, try slowing the video down with it. Putting an audio file in a video file is easy, but editing the video with how the song goes is creative, but difficult. Don't go overboard on it though.
D) Think about everyone else, not you (As much as you might love some horrible shitty Lil Wayne song, you need to keep in mind that these frag videos are for everyone else to watch, not you. WIth that in mind, make sure you use something that everyone can enjoy, and not have to mute. This correlates with rule A. Music is important, it can completely ruin a frag video, regardless of content and editing.
E) Get opinions on it (Go into busy IRC channels, and see what people think of the song. Find the link on YouTube, post it, and if the majority of people like it, keep that song in mind. Don't guarantee EVERYONE will like it, but favorite it.
There have been tons of frag videos that I've immediately stopped watching and deleted, only because of the audio. Don't use scream-o, annoying horrible rap music, terrible basic techno/trance, super hardcore electronica, and country. I could go on and on, but, you need to understand that this is for everyone else to enjoy, not just you.
I stand by my previous post... however I wonder how 'celldweller - switchback' would work in a quake fragmovie, have seen it in another games fragmovie.
- psycho-trans-techno-house-remix-dj-hype
- hip-hop-rap-gangsta
- pop-rock-casual shit
- hardrock-blackmetal-anything that makes little jesus chris shit his pants
- no music, only in-game sounds
- percussions-drums
i tried that once but it made the video look retarded as the picture was synced to the other music track. it's a different story though if you go with only the in game sounds approach in mid.
also, when i tried it, i used team based gametypes which would obviously have a lot of "stray" sound thanks to the action off the screen. it could work in duel though as you have much better control over the sound.
