He's said he's been waiting for the 'right' game for a while now, I'd say over a year.

During that time, we've been playing Quake 3 and Quake Live competitively. So, his excuse about waiting for the 'right' game, or a 'good' game is completely inexcusable.

EDIT: I understand what you're saying completely, I'm just stating that he's telling us he wants to compete, and he wants to play a good 1v1 game again, but that's just propeganda. It's highly unlikely he will compete again, but in the meantime, he's going to tell us that it's likely.

He wouldn't have too difficult a time coming back to quake and winning. He's a monster, never forget it. The guy has the ability to train harder than anybody else in competitive gaming. Combine that with determination to win, and he has a top 3 placing within half a year, from there its all up hill.

If he doesn't continue to play and add to his laundry list of achievements, his endorsements will inevitably dry up. People will lose interest in Fatal1ty, and hence, Fatal1ty products. No one will care in 2010 about a guy who won his last e-sports championship in 2005 enough to buy shit with his name plastered on it solely because his name's on it. This is undeniable.

For instance, Michael Jordan is retired from the NBA. Do you see him still being endorsed by Nike? Not at all. But Tiger Woods still is, because he stills plays in the PGA successfully.

He just has a passion for fps games and can afford to? I don't think at this point that it neccessarily has to be about the money. He just likes seeing a W at the end of the day and probably has some nostalgia for that which he'd like to enjoy again before age really gets to him. If you look at professional athletes, many can still compete close to their prime even in their late 20's or early 30's. Sampras was still dominating the game before he retired. Although reaction time slows, wisdom grows, tactics improve and I'd say he has a shot at showing the world he's still capable of being one of the best, even if not the very best, if he really absolutely dedicates himself and have fun while doing it.

At this point, if Fat tried to make a comeback, his image would be tarnished from losses, and his market value would decline. About the only chance he has is to get into Starcraft, so he has a legitimate excuse for getting destroyed by the competition.

Although you have Lost-Cauze and his crew playing all summer in 07 in their own house, Chance and Dahang playing an assload of games together, and then cap that off with icelore's annual pre-Lanwar bootcamp which filled up each time.

Although if you rephrased that to, "Tox and Fat were the only ones who practiced constantly and consistently over long periods of time," that would be true -- I don't think any other players were consistently spending the 100-odd weeks that Q4 had tourneys preparing online/on LAN for tournaments for 20+ hours a week.

Fat was always early to a game, before real players and real competition had sprouted. He'd put in FAR more practice and he had sponsorship, which was much less common in competitors back in those days. When real talent gets a hold of that kind of practice, you see results like Cooller, cypher, and jibo. Fat never had talent, he had opportunity.

Look at all the games fat has been good in, and then look where the players stand.

Well that's the same thing I was talking about with Fatal1ty. They were probably both better than their opponents, but the competition level wasn't nearly as high as it is now, and a great majority of players that they were up against were not of the level of talent that the years of being played have flushed out.

Also in 1998 Thresh came back in Quake2 an won PGL Season 3 against all the top players like immortal, mastakilla etc...still he wouldnt have any chance against todays top players, because the scenes and skills evolve, but that doesnt make Thresh a weaker player.

I didn't say Thresh was a weaker player - only that you can't use previous achievements to judge how he would play at the current level of skill. However, Fatal1ty always ran away from a game when the competition got rough.
