I don't think people are going to view this in the way you think they are. We're definitely not going to be rude and cynical about someone trying to help the community.

I'm confident that most of the people here would be more then happy to take one minute to sign up for a site and give Quake a chance in this. There's barely enough Quake as it is. Now, we might get annoyed when we're asked for money, but that's a different story.

I agree with Redeye. The Quake community needs events and tournaments much more than they need the Quake community so it would be a shame to spit in the face of someone that could potentially help out the community.

As for the game selection, I've mentioned ever since I was with the CPL to let SyncError do his thing and take the time to resolve the issues BEFORE pushing it live and having people get turned off because it doesn't do what promised. Right now, with GTV, MVD, a good competition mod that supports both LAN and Online competitions, I don't see any reason to throw something out there that doesn't offer the things needed for spectating. Also, it would be a shame for the UKeSA to not see the results that they're expecting because some features aren't ready in QuakeLive and they try to use that for their first season. I'd hate to see QuakeLive given up on before it has a chance.

I highly recommend CPMA VQ3. This is the closest to Qlive and has the broadest audience rather than the unfortunate niche audience. While it's impressing seeing CPM games, CPM players can go back and play VQ3 but you can't necessarily have it the other way around, which means that some players might be alienated and for the community to grow again and prove to sponsors that 1v1 isn't dead, you need to reach to most number of players possible.

I do believe the community overwhelmingly voted for CQ3 over VQ3, with even CPM higher. The only thing you'll be alienating is standardization - the one thing the community needs to live.

CADRED is one of the founders of UKeSA, along with QUAD V and teams like dignitas and fnatic. If the UKeSA wants to find out support of a 1vs1 DM game surely it makes more sense to have a poll on the UKeSA site (Sign-up or not).

But anyway, a poll like this achieves nothing, the UKeSA knows all about DM gaming and the 1vs1 scene and doesn't need a poll to make a decision. This is nothing but trying to attract people to the site/publicity for the UKeSA (So it looks like it listens to the community).

Never heard of this league, but TBH If leagues aren't smart enough to realize that they should have a duel game, in particular q3, then why should any quakers even want to have anything to do with them?

Let me guess, their first and overwhelming choices for main games; cs1.6, guitar hero, and halo?

these leagues should prove to us why they deserve our presence at their tournaments, not the other way around.

Right now, we need them a lot more than they need us. If you keep spitting in the face of the people that are giving you a chance, pretty soon you're not going to have anyone left to give you that chance.

Quakers need to stop lowering their image/value in the eyes of organizers and sponsors by begging them to include our game/genre in their events. TBH leagues like this one who demonstrate how uninformed they are need to be left to themselves.

BTW do we know prizing? My next prediction would be that the purses for each game have been minimalized so they can spread the amount across the 50 games they've chosen. When they really should have chosen a maximum of 5-6 games for the entire event. Then the gamers/teams that are in the top 8-12 and not just the top 2-3 may actually be able to win something.

I could understand the point of begging some huge tournament organizer to use quake but...some fresh league with little chance of surviving one season? Frankly, we quake players are the veteran esports players, why should we beg. Also, If you are all that desperate to get quake into tournaments, why not just run one yourselves, like so many of our community members have done before. Our best tournaments have always been run by those directly involved in the community with the exception of tournaments like ESWC, CPL, and GGL. All 3 of those sort of fit into the "directly involved" category though.

I agree about running your own tournaments. That's why I'm doing what I can to help provide GTV coverage to as many events as possible and hopefully will be running some small online events through TakingBackEsports.com soon as well.

The Quake community shouldn't have to beg, but unfortunately right now, the sponsors are few and far between so you're going to need to show in both big tournaments and small that they can trust the community again. Only then will you see sponsors potentially willing to provide larger prizes for 1v1 again.

Did you expect everyone to immediately go and read up on UKESA? I based my view and my post on the VERY little information you provided in your post along with the game list provided by somebody in a reply.

That information is -> UKESA started in 2008, 20 games not a single one of them is quake or duel based, Luckily for you guys this brand new tournament organization is asking you if you think you are worth a spot in the lineup of games.

All signs point to an organization that only value popularity, not professionalism and the ability of professionalism to generate public interest. There is a specific reason why quake players end up with trademark and signature products while WOW players never will. It's time to cut the load of horse shit if you want to display quake for what it is, don't put it in a lineup with a bunch of games that are nothing more than a fleeting moment in competitive gaming history. AND CERTAINLY don't ask us to beg to be grouped with that shit AFTER the fact. Display it on the forefront, where it's been since the beginning or not at all.

Apologies I didnt realise I actually needed to provide you with a complete background on UKeSA and believed you would have the vague ability to find out if you were going to comment on it, especially the way you have.

To clear it up for you as you seem reluctantly lazy to go and find out, the reason I promoted the chance of getting Quake added is because the way this is going to work is that the first 20 odd games go in to an Open division with no prize money but based on sign ups and a few other community factors, 8 to 10 of those will also be promoted to Championship level with small amounts of prize money. From there, 4 will get promoted in to the Premiership and thats where the majority of the £105,000 over the next 12 months will be given out, including money for just playing in it...

Rather than ignore it and make rude remarks about them missing quake out, I wanted to try and help it get in. The only way of doing so would be to show them how popular it is via a poll or something similiar, which is what I did.

Its really very simple: If it doesnt get in the initial list, there is no hope of it becoming a premier game in this league and thus benefiting many players earning some good money from it. Honestly, how can you have ANY business in professional gaming without knowing everything about it? There was an interview with a guy who was starting a tourney a few months ago... When questioned if Starcraft was going to be in the tourney, he said that they were only trying to use big games.

You see, I don't disagree with your point, but I was only arguing the point that redeye made about the idea of them not knowing about ESR. Deciding against quake due to community size/community attitude is one thing, but to not even be informed is irresponsible.

With each post you present me with more information that should have been either linked to or stated in your initial post. Now I've found out that this whole tournament IS a popularity contest, but maybe one worth polling about because there is a chance for quake to be in the forefront and not lumped in with the rest of the crapola. Do I sound elitist? HELLS YEAH I DO, because quake is arguably the most important game in western esports alongside counterstrike and has been for 10 years. Surprisingly though we are constantly put on the back burner. By the way, I play other video games, I just don't go around pretending they are valuable in a competitive environment by putting them in tournaments for no good reason other than them having x amount of sales under their jacket.

Unfortunately gamers have seen polls come, go and be ignored - WCG and Digital Games for example...You're dealing with a crowd that has been burned in the past (as you know).

Secondly, it is odd that Quake has to have a petition yet Counter-Strike Condition Zero is present......in addition to the good Counter-Strikes.

Thirdly, gamers are lazy :D People in general expect to be fed information; fact of life.

We also cannot see some of the facts you have outlined...But we have seen a league with huge financial backing implode. And apparently it had a five year plan (or three, can't remember what DJWheat said). Money alone isn't enough to make me go "this will work" (and I am optimistic for eSports) - and I have already stated where I stand on the games. I would prefer that the UKeSA tries to fortify eSports, rather than games that should not be considered eSport titles or are not suitable.

But I wish you luck and hope that it does succeed!

also i agree with the first post 'why the fuck not?' :) and is 'duel game' synonymous with quake? if quake gets chosen, quake live SHOULD NOT BE PICKED until there are firstly, more maps and secondly, unless the competition mode has been implemented. q4, q2 and qw would be seemingly pointless picks as well due to the lack of community compared with q3. so that just leaves a choice between vq3 or cpm. cpm is probably more friendly and encouraging for more players, but vq3 is more 'standard'. so go figure. i don't really care but it's sad that it wasn't included in the original list of games - doesn't make much sense considering its history and QL as an upcoming title...

But on a different note, I played Quake 2 on the 360 (did you know it came with Quake 4 and can play 4 player split screen?) I have to say, I've played alot of console FPS games in my time... and I thought they all proved you couldn't do a physics based FPS game. Holy fuck was I wrong. I consider myself to be above average when it comes to the sticks. I was able to strafe jump, double jump, and even hit the mega on q2dm1.

I was kinda surprised. We had 4 guys going and probably played for 3 hours. You can find Quake 4 for 360 for like $5-10 bucks at a used store. Totally worth it if you got some old-school Quake fans, some beer, and a 360.

I know this has no relevance to the thread, but I felt like sharing anyway.

when i was in college we used to play 4 player quake 2 mp on the psx, also doom when we could be arsed to link them, was super fun much like with goldeneye
