I'm not really familiar with vq3 play, but I noticed Walter using lots of half-beat strafes -- is that common in duel/tdm? I've never really seen it used before outside of defrag.

nah I think ground accel, or whatever you call it when you start a jump. don't know the exact details but it's definitely different.

single beat is when you change the direction you look, and switch the strafe keys you hold accordingly
half beat is when you don't change the direction you look, first jump holding forward+strafe, and second jump holding the other strafe key without holding forward.

Yeah, this is the first time I've noticed someone visibly using the half beat to move around the map, and it seems like on dm6 would be a good map to use it on with those long arching turns on that map.

Yeah, but unlike double or single beat, half beat geometry gets narrower the faster you go, afaik. Whereas, when you're going faster and faster at single/double, your mouse view approaches more towards 90 degress of the direction you're traveling in, but with half beat, it gets narrower and narrower.

yeah, his movement is really impressive and enjoyable to watch.

i haven't seen anyone else use it as much as he does. his movement on dm6 and hub is the best i've seen.

not that common but i've always used quite a bit of half beat, not really usable on the majority of maps but dm6 there are a few good areas, especially when going from RA (tdm) to bridge
