Brawl is way better than Melee, except if you are a fucking smashboards kid who thinks doing idiotic things like wavedashing or l-cancelling adds depth.

Also, Evo 2008 matches were FAR more entertaining than the typical no items snoozefest.

l-cancelling and wave dash increases the skill gap. There are still tournaments for Melee, but of course Brawl have larger turnouts.

Of course, but there are many repetitive and mechanic things you could add to a game to increase the skill gap and they wouldn't be less idiotic just because they made the game harder.

i wish TvC got a Western release and totally replace MVC2 @ Evo. now it only has an exhibition invite-only tournament.

it seems a lot more better than Marvel.. you can Megacrush out of infinites if you have 2 levels of super, providing more exciting and strategic fights.

not to mention TvC is actually popular in Japan and would provide a great battle between US and jap scenes with lots of drama.

Why replace MVC2? TvC is nowhere near as fast paced or action packed. In fact, no other fighting game is.

I'd keep MvC2 just for the community.

Oh, I know all about the community. We have large get-togethers around here quite a bit. Mostly black/hispanic, though.

The game isn't so bad when you get better at it - the down side is only that you're stuck with a certain few characters to have any sort of chance. Low tier tourneys are the most fun.

marvel needs a megacrush move to make more characters viable. in mvc3 maybe.. i hope it's in the works

magneto/storm/sentinel seems more common. Cable is too much of a risk - more of an "all in" kinda move.

In my defense Boxer is probably the best character in Super Turbo (look how devatating he can be vs one of the worlds best). DJ is just above average, but he's the only one I can play decent on a joypad and he's a lot of fun with big in game combo potential nearly every match.

O.Sagat is the best character in ST. he's soft banned in Japan (aka nobody picks him because he has no "honor").

which makes Daigo's victories against John Choi even more amazing :)

Well, I guess they're at opposite ends of the spectrum.

Sagat's success depends on keeping you away, boxer's relies on getting in close. They're both equally piggish. The only difference is you will last longer vs a pro O. sagat.
I still rate a good boxer above a top sagat, I think Sagat being banned is just an honour thing, which is stupid giving some of stuff that is used to win with other characters is IMO equally broken.

If you look at the top 3, O.Sagat/Boxer/Sim, every single one of their game styles by large involves them getting up really close or staying as far away as possible.

I'm sure there is a lesson in there somewhere towards picking a fighter in anygame. Lose battles at the start to win the war.

He's ok, I mean very few people who play ST are bad in their own right. I only did that as he was selling overpriced Saturn pads on Ebay :)

I get beat plenty, but its mostly matchup related.
There isn't anyone who knows more than enough to make me feel outclassed. I always know why I lose by any margin and its mostly cos I'm stuck with DJ, which is fine for 99.9% of the time but a handful of people make me look bad-its matchup related.
I would say the best on GGPO atm (who i played) is Afro Legends/DGV and GigamsX.

Giga is the best I ever played. I used to play him in 1994 in Lodon and he won a big ST tourney in London 94 and he still rapes.

What Giga does is he can play many different characters at a pro level so even if you do beat (a figure of speech) him, he will could pick many characters with a mathup advantage.

He used to work in arcade in London when the game was rife which was Super Turbo mecca :)
They don't come anymore hardcore than Joseph and you're talking to someone who sold his bus ticket and stranded himself 200 miles from home (at 14) to play more people at this game in London in the 90's :).

Yeah he said that was his best, but I took a few off him and came close a surprising amount of times. His Gief gave me a rough time. Like I said, he's the best I played across the board.

money in big tournaments is irelevant for fighting game players. it's all about the prestige and desire to win, fueled by the fierce rivalry between East vs West coast, USA vs Japan etc.

the prize pool is created mostly from entry fees.. first prize at Evo for a specific game was around 2-3000$.

however people play for money outside the tournament.. that's why Evo is hosted in Las Vegas: to prevent legal issues.

also every player out there plays/supports more than one game.. no esports-serious-business attitude like "X is a cool game, but there's no money in it"

Yeah, the MvC2 community is essentially the opposite of how we play and win money. Sure, players win the money, but at a huge loss.

(For those people who don't know, players bet their own money and play other players. It's a very 'urban' game)
