If you like the shape of the IE 3.0, I'd try the Deathadder. Personally, I don't like it because of the grip, but, I'm sure a lot of people would recommend that anyways.

If not, just buy another 3.0 =)

If you're willing to try something new, then go with the Deathadder. All the bugs have been worked out of it and works rather awesome. If you don't want to try something new, then just get another IE 3.0. There are no other mice out there that really have a similar enough shape.

there are also rumours that they are releasing a new firmware upgrade for their optical mice that have the option of disabling prediction which would bring a much closer feel to the IME/WMO sensor

Sincere appreciation to those that responded. I got a Death Adder right at release and only got rid of it within the last 6 months. I gave my D.A. to my most recent ex.. She prefers it over the 3.0 due to her hands being smaller, says she gets a better lg out of it, though she prefers the 3.0 for railing.
I didn't like the liftoff distance or the mouse button delay, so I'm sticking with the Intellimouse.
I've got extra hyperglide mouse feet for either the D.A. or the IE 3.0, so I'm just going to order a new IE 3.0.

There was a time when i thought the IE 3.0 shape was the best in the world as well. Then just for kicks, i bought the new mx300 when it came out, and the mx510 as well. After a week or so, the IE 3.0 was both obsolete on the hardware and shape part. Going back to 400 dpi felt horrible and i just plain hated the shape that i before used to love.

I'll go against the trend, and recommend a new mouse with a different design.

I used the mx300 long ago. It's still around somewhere. There is no "new" mx300. BTW it's 400dpi. As for mx510, I don't have one of those, but I have an mx518, and that's pretty close. Still don't like gaming with it. Here at the office I'm using a Logi G5, which is basically the same shape as the mx510/518. Wouldn't use it for gaming though.

Of course there is no new mx300, but it was new at that time.
My point was not that you should pick mx300 or mx510, just that there are many other mice out there, with better buttons, shape, hardware and specs. There has been A LOT of changes since what..2001 or so, when the I.E was released.

If it was me, then i think i would try the Roccat Kone mouse, i stumbled over it, when i was looking for some Steelseries mousepads reviews some weeks ago. It sound awesome, looks beautiful to me, i love the software and the design as well, and the ratings are superb.

I don't buy that it's too heavy, it is lighter than Intellimouse 3 explorer which a lot of ancient players love, 118gr. vs 140gr, and it has a weight system. It is smaller as well - 13x6,5cm vs 13,2x6,9 cm. Skips at high speed could be anything, could be a placebo you experience because you seem to hate the mouse, could be a bad rev. or firmware, conflicting drivers, bad surface, wrong settings in the setup, shit on the linse, old mouse software and so on.

The IE3.0 isn't 140g as far as I can tell. (mine is much lighter than that)

I don't have mine with me but I know that it's lighter than my brothers Death Adder and my old mx510 (with the weight removed).

WMO is about 90g and it is heavier than that.
DA is about 110g and it is lighter than that.
140g would be a similar weight to a wireless mouse with a giant battery inside it (mx700 or whatever it was called).

It sounds like you're arguing based entirely on reviews, which are nigh worthless unless it's ESREALITY MOUSESCORE 2009.

It's laser, first of all, so yeah, chances are really, really good that it does skip. The high reviews are probably not by hardcore gamers, but more likely some casual player/reviewer that likes blinky lights and lots of buttons... a jedi cares not for these things.

The IE 3 is ancient, you can say what you want but the 400dpi is horrible, and the build quality isn't the best in the world either.

Build quality isn't amazing but 400dpi is a lot better than you seem to think.

Listen, obviously you can win eswc with a 200 dpi mouse, since you'll learn to know your mouse and compensate for it, and the same goes with a 400 dpi mouse. All i'm saying is that the step from 400 to 800 is very distinct, for me it was equal to going from 125hz to 250hz on the usb bus. The 400 dpi mouse i used at that time was in fact my third IE 3, and the 800 dpi i changed to was a logitech mx510. I just don't get it why people still prefer 400 dpi, but hey, to each his own.

mx510 is actually a 400dpi mouse.

I've got one and the 800dpi is a software based change which essentially doubles the sensitivity. The improvement that the mx510 brought was a 200hz ps/2 hack and a 12(or 16)bit datapath.

Unless you use a ridiculously high resolution and need pixel perfect accuracy (Which you won't do) then 400dpi is more than enough. The old Diamondback/mx518 1600dpi sensor is probably the best sensor about (Although it has prediction) then it's the MX300/500/510 400dpi sensor and then the WMO/IE3 (Only predictionless one out of the lot).

That sounds too weird, if it was only 400 i think we would have heard more of it. Sujoy even stated the G1 as 800 dpi, and they use the same hardware.

He said it was "800dpi" but then his test showed it up as being "400dpi".

When you plug a WMO into a computer with no drivers you get 400dpi.
When you plug an mx518 into a computer with no drivers you get 1600dpi.
When you plug an mx510 into a computer with no drivers you get 400dpi. When you install the drivers you can put it into "800dpi" mode, but it still performs like a 400dpi mouse with double speed.

There are at least two different versions of the mx510, one came with a weight inside and the second one came without it.

The G1 has 800dpi but non of the mx510s I've used had 800dpi out of the box.

I don't think that i'm defending it more than necessary, he just came off way too negative, no positive things to say and some of the points are stupid.

My favorit? As i always say, that depends on your needs. Are you a WoW player, counter-strike or quake player? WoW players would like many buttons, at least those i have seen at lan. Counter-strike players like a very low sensitivity, and quake players use a higher sens. Given that i haven't upgraded my mouse for years, since i don't game competitively anymore, i ended up primarely using a logitech G1. I can't really recommend it for competative gaming, unless you relly like the shape of it. I'm mostly working with graphics and my studies so the low weight and size suits me just perfect.

i'm currently using a roccat kone
played with a mx518 for the last 5 years or so since it came out and had a g5 in between which was bad because of the negative accel - the kone was the first mouse where i liked the shape better than logitechs so i bought one to try it out - really liked it so i kept it - had quite a few issues with the driver in the beginning but most of that was my own fault (tried a beta driver first and then i was unable to downgrade the firmware... and windows wouldn't let the driver work because it recognized the mouse as a former used usb device and shut down stuff from the driver - anyway i got it fixed - thanks to their patient support who came up with a ton of ideas to help me) - you have to install the driver once at least to make profiles - you can uninstall it again later and take your predefined settings to any other computer without a problem
anyway - now that it works properly i really love it - playing it with 800dpi at 1000Hz and use 28cm/360° ingame (11inches/360°)

nice rate stability. Your sensitivity must be quite consistent thanks to it.

if u need a big mouse then the sidewinder x5 fits the bill so long as you're not using a real low sens. Looks ugly but fits the hand as snugly as an IE 3.0 or even 4.0
